I only had a few sessions here unfortunately (due to short notice job requirements), but I enjoyed every minute of it! And yes, they offer military discounts.Staff are highly knowledgeable and professional. They typically structure their beginning of the week around new movements, so your best bet as a novice is to arrive earlier in the week. Expect dynamic warm ups, and bring plenty of water.Uniforms are available to use to include belts, though it would be better to purchase your own as sizes are first come first serve. Changing rooms are also there to use.I think anyone who attends would be more than happy to become regular members, as youll learn a lot and their environment is very welcoming to everyone. Keep in mind if you dont have experience, itll take some time to really learn some of the fun stuff, so be patient.Staff respond within 24 hours to customer inquiries through email, in my experience.Overall Id recommend this place to anyone who is new to the sport and Albuquerque. You likely wont find anything better.

Dropped in from out of town for a Saturday open mat with my 12-year-old. Everyone was fantastic - tough, friendly, skilled, and respectful all the way from white to brown. The owner was very accommodating and made sure we felt at home. Highly recommended.

Great school, all the students are careful to prevent injuries. This is a small business and not a belt factory so Coach Rick is accommodating. The curriculum could be more organized, but otherwise this is a good place to train if you dont mind a less competitive, friendly atmosphere.

Very positive and caring atmosphere. Even though the instructors have MMA-level skills, there is absolutely no pecking order; they are happy to have you no matter what level you are at. Best of all they train their students to be respectful to each other - you will become a better martial artists and meet a bunch of friends at the same time.

Ive been training around Albuquerque in BJJ now for five years at several schools and visited the majority of them at least once. So with that in mind, I am proud to call Invictus my home. The atmosphere there and the culture gym owner and BJJ black belt Rick Mitchell and his students create is a place of positivity and feeling welcomed. One of the biggest issues Ive had at some other schools is their politics and not feeling as part of a team. Here, there is none of that toxic environment. The students push hard, are eager to learn and egos are kept to a minimum. All around, this is a great place to train for those who want to learn martial arts that can work on or off the mats.

Both instructors were great, but Rick worked with me and another student one-on-one and I enjoyed his instruction. I felt very comfortable attempting new moves and the flow/pace was perfect for me. Theres just a very inclusive and friendly vibe, with the right amount of challenge.

A great place to learn and grow. Every single class has multiple instructors on the mat who you can ask questions at any time. The coaches have extensive competition and cross-training experience; they are true martial artists that understand the underlying body mechanics and mental discipline necessary to succeed. The kids and adults teams are amazing and supportive, so much fun to be a part of. Thank you Invictus!!!

I went my first time with a friend who is very skilled in this martial art. After meeting the owner (Kru Rick) who teaches, Kru Edgar and Kru Eric, as well as all the people there training, I wanted to go back. Theyre all very humble, no big egos, and all ready to teach and share knowledge. Energy is so important and the energy there is phenomenal! Im excited to learn more without being intimidated. Im also training one-on-one with Kru Eric now. Hes well-rounded and a badass!

I do not have enough room to describe how grateful I am for Invictus BJJ. These guys have been incredibly hospitable and have done a tremendous job creating an atmosphere/culture that anyone would want to be a part of. Equally important: the training and instruction are excellent.I spent a week in town for work and reached out to them before I came down. They welcomed me into the academy and insisted on no drop-in fees for me because I was a visitor. ZERO. No one treated me any differently than regular members despite being a visitor. The instructors took time to answer my questions and even helped me catch up on the things I wasn’t around for the week prior. Everyone in the gym was approachable, regardless of belt-color, achievements, etc. Rick, presumably one of the owners, even invited another visitor and I out for the gym’s regular weekly social hour after training one evening. The instruction and class structure are great. They say drillers make killers. We had plenty of time to drill the techniques we worked on during class. The professor was present and available for questions/clarification. I especially appreciated the common thread that ran through the training each night of the week. There is clearly some sort of common curriculum. This is different from some gyms I’ve trained at where classes may be put together haphazardly without rhyme or reason. Everything I had the opportunity to train on at Invictus was complimentary. There was plenty of time to free roll after drilling as well. This is a great place for all levels, including new white belts like me.

Rick is one of the best BJJ coaches you will find in anywhere. He runs a great gym and the Muay Thai program is fantastic as well. The welcoming and positive atmosphere makes any new/first time student feel instantly at home.

The instructors seemed very knowledgeable but the space came across as cold and unwelcoming. I showed up half an hour early to make sure I could talk to someone and be sure to be respectful of the norms and culture of the gym but despite asking a couple of people no one clarified or talked to me until minutes before class. There was no introduction and despite working with someone who was clearly having issues the head instructor only approached once and asked how I was doing. (He didnt offer any correction or improvement, and I probably looked like a spider on a hotplate with a foreign technique and entry.) He never helped my partner who, even I could feel, needed some guidance. Coming from a relatively sizable background in martial arts this was a pretty hostile environment and the lack of instruction seemed startling to me. I constantly found myself saying if I were teaching this, if it were my gym, etc which is never a position I want to be in while visiting a gym to learn and experience something new for myself. As I sit in my driveway and reflect on what I learned today, all I can say is that invictus practitioners have very inventive uses of the gi, and the practitioners were very skilled at some specific tactics and grappling, but that I dont think I walked away with anything for myself today. I hope I was a unique situation but it still soured the location for me as a martial artist.

Ive been doing Jiu Jitsu at Invictus for over 3 years now. It is a great place to have fun, get in shape and learn some self defense. Im an optometrist and cant afford to get hurt or show up to work with bruises or black eyes, everyone at Invictus is very nice and there are no egos. The pricing is one of the best that Ive seen in NM for such a nice facility. I would highly recommend stopping by and signing up.

I’ve been training at Invictus since November 2017. I tried a few different gyms after my gym closed and I fell in love with this gym. We all train for different reasons. Some train to fight, some train to relieve stress, some train to lose weight, etc... what ever your reason the coaches have the tools to help each individual. I am impressed with the coachs’ knowledge, dedication, and progressive classes. It’s a little intimidating going into a new gym, but this group of coaches will work with your skill level and athletic abilities. They will make you feel comfortable and welcome. I’m happy to say I found a new home.

I am visiting in the Albuquerque area this week and contacted Invictus BJJ about dropping in to train with them. Professor Richard Mitchell was quick to respond via email and invite me to join any classes I wished to participate in, free of drop-in charge. I arrived for a Monday night class. This was the first time I ever trained outside my own affiliate dojo. You never know what you are walking into when you step into another BJJ dojo. First the facility was clean with a large mat for rolling. The class was well attended with over 20 people. There was an array of belts and even people just a few classes into their BJJ journey. I introduced myself to the professor and everyone on the mat. Everyone was very welcoming and the general vibe was what I am accustomed to at my home training facility. The technique training of the class was good and the coaches were great at correcting our techniques. I stayed to spar a round and everyone was very respectful of each other. Invictus is a BJJ dojo I wont hesitate to visit again and if I was to train long term in Albuquerque I would be looking to make it my training home. Thank you Professor Mitchell. OSS!

INCREDIBLE! WELCOMING AND COMPETITIVE.I have been training here since this place opened. I love the safe and very welcoming environment. I feel like our team is a family. I also love the competition. We get lots of new members and we also have a very solid core group of higher-level belts and coaches. This means there is always someone your skill level but it also means there is always someone there to push you.Invictus makes me feel very confident about my skills but the level of rolling and sparring that is offered by my partners always makes me feel like theres room for improvement. It makes me feel like I should train more and harder to be better and to offer them the kind resistance they offer me. I also love when we get new people and I get to show them everything that Ive learned and share with them something Im so passionate about. This is a great gym for beginners because there are so many people that want to help you learn. This is also a great gym for higher level belts because everyone still wants you to learn and they have the capabilities to push you. I visit other gyms and love the entire Albuquerque community, but have yet to see something great enough to make me switch.Ive been practicing kickboxing since 2008 and BJJ since 2010. Come on in and spar with me, and the people that make me feel like a white belt.
