My child just completed his first year at this school. I found the teaching fair and discipline very good. Children are held to standards in the classroom which in other middle schools I have had my kids in was not the case. The school offered a safe and good quality trip to Europe for any middle and high school kids to attend during spring break. The price for all they got to do was very reasonable. Though no school is perfect and you have to find the one that works best for your child and your schedule I am very happy with ASE. My child will be attending again next year.

Excellent State Charter school. They even received a A grade from New Mexico Public Education department . Now that speaks volume for a schoolwith rigorous Academic programs. The teachers in this school will stay late for tutoring kids who have challenges in various subjects. Overall a excellent school.

My kid is in the middle school & she likes the atmosphere at school and the diversity. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. Teachers are very dedicated and make learning fun! My girl has friends from different parts of the world and she loves learning about new cultures from her friends. The curriculum is also heavy on math and science. And to top it all the kids have art and music, sports, and computers, etc. in the program which is not available in many other schools in ABQ! We love it here!

Im a mother of a student, I will say that at first I loved this school, but since Mr Ellis left the special education has not been the same, my daughter used to come home happy with something different to share that she actually learned, I was extremely surprised with her advancement ( not happening anymore) like the variety of different culture students. They did have a report on a teacher who was found with minor pornography I did not hear that he molested any kids(hopefully he didnt),l.yes I do feel the prices non everything are way too much and if the kids already use a school shirt why force parents to buy a jacket. This feels like a private school and not for the quality but because of all it expenses. If your planning to put your kid in here ask for all the costs. The school has good programs and clubs for the kids, so again if you have the money go for it., Im still waiting to see this school and teachers improve. Restrooms hygiene and hand soap NONE!!

The school has good intentions but very unorganized. Proper communication to events happening and how these will be executed for parents and care givers to have the proper knowledge so as to schedule accordingly is vastly lacking. The ideal to constantly push to separate parent and student interaction is ridiculous.

My daughter is starting here in first grade so this is really a review of her past year. I do plan on keeping her in this school next year so I will edit this if I feel my experience changes.I really like that this school has diversity. Oh my God there are Muslims in Albuquerque! Get over it. Seriously. I would rather have my daughter raised in an environment to have her thinking globally, have consideration for the differences of others, be a problem solver and a peace maker. Who cares if Muslims are running the school especially when they do an excellent job!As far as I can tell they hold pretty high academic standards. I do wish there was a little more communication though. Is my child struggling with something? Give me a heads up. Send a note home. Dont just send a paper that says 50% with no labeled instructions. I have no idea what the assignment was so I can help my kiddo at home. I think the class sizes are small enough to say, Hey, little Johnny is struggling with xyz before it becomes an issue over a few weeks. We did have Kindergarden in public school so I can tell you it is vastly better than our former experience and I do love the online system that they have set up so you can keep an eye on grades, lunch accounts, attendance, tardies, and any positive or negative behavioral points they may accrue.I have small issues here and there but they are far too petty to mention and seriously do not outweigh the awesomeness of this school. Its pretty legit.2017 Edit: We still attend this school in 3rd grade. They have a new secretary at the front (since I last wrote) who is super helpful and friendly.Pick up and drop off times can be a little tricky. Not everyone has the patience to follow the rules and be considerate while picking up their children which can be frustrating. My daughter is cruising right along. Im very happy with the education she is getting. She enjoys the atmosphere, her teachers, and the after school activities.

I have a hard time believing some of these comments. I think a lot of them are posted by kids. I have many Muslim friends whose children attend this school and they love it. They are not discriminated against in any way, shape or form. If you want to expose your children to a diverse student body they actually might learn from , I think this is a great choice. I have a feeling the kids who posted how much they hate this school are the ones who have not done well there for their own personal reasons. Who cares if it is an old grocery store...they are improving it every day and have a brand new gym being built. The school has an A rating for crying out loud and a strong curriculum. People need to quit being such haters.

I love this A rated school. I came here when I was in 6th grade. The food is an option. I cant wear anything I want because there is a dress-code which I will have in professional life. When I throw my trash on the floor, the school becomes dirty but if I keep it clean, it looks clean. Dr. Orsun asks students to write accurate comments rather than accusing the school when the bad kids get in trouble... Yes, unfortunately, we have bad kids in this school and they dont like this school because teachers challenge us and we must prepare STEM projects. I personally tell my teachers to utilize Positive Reward System more and more so that these kids dont blame (the teacher is picking on me) them when they get in trouble.

It started off cool but im not to sure that the people running the school know what they are doing. When i was there the principal was constantly roaming the halls and peeping through the windows. They are also super biased here. They will favorite you more if you are seen as smarter or because of your race. And the discipline is crazy. You will get Dps for literally anything. There were a few cool teachers but the rest sucked. There would often be times where the teachers wouldnt even show up to class! Whats up with that???? So to parents thinking of sending your kids here, im sure its good for elementary kids but for middle and highschool its AWFUL

My brother went here, and this school sent him into depression. Poor kid got picked on & failed. they are racist. JUST BECAUSE YOUR MUSLIM AND HES MEXICAN DOESNT MEAN HE SHOULD BE DISCRIMINATED. This DPS system is horrible. Honestly, never send your kid here. The food is horrible, Id rather him go w/o eating than him eat that stuff. Its like prison. I mean theres one good thing about the school.. Oh wait just kidding. There isnt. 😂 LIFE TIP: NEVER SEND YOUR KID HERE. DONT DO IT.

My friends were talking about how some students commented on our school. I wanted to read the reviews and I was shocked when I saw how people easily blame school or teachers. I know some of my friends who commented negatively or gave 1 star to school and I do understand them. If you are getting trouble a lot in the school, of course you will blame the school. Ofcourse you want to get revenge by commenting negatively. My school is one of the best school I have ever attended. It is very diverse. I like being a diverse school, having friends from different cultures and learning about them is important to me. It is a BIG LIE that all students or most of the students are muslim. In my class I have may be 3 muslims even I am not sure. I really don’t know how people know who is muslim or not. When I started 3 years ago no one asked me if I am a MUSLIM or JEWISH! Thanks God my parents are not ignorant people and teach me how to respect the people. Anyway I am happy and like my school a lot.

My parents put me in this school for 6th Grade and they were expecting much better than what the school actually was. It started off fine but then about a week in school I got countless and I mean COUNTLESS DPS. DPS is a discipline point system that if you do anything bad you get in trouble for it. This DPS thing is given to excessively, mostly for Talking, and fooling around. The food is crap and a couple teachers take discipline to seriously. One being (Im not going to mention names due to privacy) the Spanish teacher for 6th grade (2015-2016) while hes busy with his bald head, and his lazy eye, trying to be cool in front of 6th graders. Such as saying that I have no balls, that my parents probably rape me, that my mom is ugly, and that I sound like a girl. The only good teachers were the Art teacher, the Social Studies teacher and the English teacher. On the other hand one of the best discipline managers/teachers left in the middle of the year, leaving us stuck with Mr. Orsun. He gets so Offended when I explain why I get in trouble. One time he looked out of his door to make sure no one was there, and when he came back he went Rambo Commando on me and started yelling. Hes insane. The lady at the front desk is sassy and she closes the window on my mom every time she needs something. The campus is an old grocery story with half of it not even used yet. The Playground isnt a playground its a parking lot. Safe right? In every bathroom stall and changing room stall there are no locks so people can just bust in while your using the bathroom. The punishments are too extreme. For example I got Saturday Detention for talking. In computer class the computer teacher knows nothing about computers. We use crappy free video editing software such as Windows Movie Maker. Thats soooo professional. (JK) The science classroom smells like fish too. Half of the teachers dont speak fluent English so I cant understand them, leading to a bad grade. The school is a college prep school, but in order to do good you have to act like a robot all day. The creative stuff such as like Film and Editing are inspired by mainstream vines and stuff that was popular in like 2008. They have a uniform, which most middle schools dont have. The school is really bad. Parents if youre reading this please consider this review, just trying to make you avoid what me and my parents had to go through.

Everything in this review will be completely honest, and I will not mention names due to privacy reasons.Lets start off with the campus, which is an old grocery store that was rebuilt to be a school. The middle school playground is a parking lot with random objects littered around most of the time. The asphalt alone is unsafe, but along with the dangerous and sometimes disgusting objects, it makes it even worse. The hallways are littered with crumpled up papers and broken pencils most of the time. Our Gym is also the cafeteria. The gym situation isnt that big of a deal, because the Elementary school kids dont play dangerous/rough games, and the Middle - High school students are usually at the local park for Physical Ed.Next, Ill talk about the discipline system. Our system has two kinds of points. DPS and PRS. PRS are positive points. DPS are negative. DPS are excessively given in some classes, while PRS is very rarely given. Some teachers flat out ABUSE the DPS system, while most of them are using it how it was intended to be used. Now, the teachers. The teachers are mostly nice. They teach interesting subjects and help the students as much as possible. Sometimes, though, they are a bit mean. Some kids have problems and reasons for not doing assignments, participating, and ect. Sometimes the teachers dont listen to these reasons, though. The administration is alright too, although some discipline procedures are excessive, such as a possible 1 day suspension for wearing a HOODIE. This action has not yet been taken as far as my knowledge goes, but it was still said by one of the admins. This is a good school though, because of the small class size, helpful teachers, and a curriculum that pushes kids to new standards.Overall, Id rate the school 4/5.
