Most people on the reviews are unhappy about the schools tuition prices. I honestly dont have much knowledge about price within the U.S higher education system (was on a full financial aid) but, apart from the price topic NOVA is a great school! First the quality of education is top notch. Second almost all the professors and advisors Ive worked with were very supportive and caring for students success. Third as long as you made the most use of them NOVAs got plenty of free and available state of the art high quality resources to help students succeed and have a great college experience. Library, tutoring centers, labs, open computer labs, student life, clubs, bookstores, cafes, lounges, etc, and even internship career connections! On top of all that you get to transfer to any four year college of your choice while holding an associate degree or some certificate which comes as beneficial for your internship or part time job. NOVAs campus environment and physical area is equivalent to a university. Its a wonderful school for a community college! SN: Its the second largest and one of the top community colleges in the country.

You couldnt pay me to attend NOVA! My high school child is trying to sign up for a dual enrollment class through Nova & they have been giving me the run around for months. No one knows what the other is doing & no one is helpful. Difficult to work with is an understatement. They are downright rude. There is no way I would recommend this school to ANYONE. I have spent days upon days trying to confirm that she is signed up for the class but each person tells me a different story. Terrible.

Professors are usually very good, but the administration (particularly the College Records Office) can be extremely hard to work with. The campuses look really good though.

Northern Virginia Community College, a.k.a. NOVA, is one of the best great college for students who want to save tuition. Plus, they can have more time to think their appropriate major in here. For foreign students, NOVA’s ESL program is very well organized and popular so that you can experience the ethnic diversity in here.

Great college that offers associate degrees to those pursuing careers in sciences, social sciences, and technology. They also offer certificates after completing certain programs.

Its tough to give this place a 1 star, because a few of the professors are good. But most of them are in it for the money, and dont out anything into the class. Online classes have been a joke by most of the professors this summer. Some of the assignments arent graded for like a month after you complete them. No response to emails, and so forth. The high level deans are awesome and caring. But the assistant deans are buddies with the professors, so nothing gets done by them when you ask for assistance.

I took about half a BS degree here various courses in business, nursing, biology, public speaking. Good price when I went. More expensive these days though. Still a lot less expensive than a 4 year college and you get the same credit. Courses seem a bit more practical oriented and less theoretical than 4 year colleges. Particularly useful was intro to microcomputer software and accounting classes I think.

Price wise, youre better off just going to a university. Its not that cheap. Literally 2 classes cost me $1100. I thought community colleges are suppose to save you money. Price wise this school is a SCAM. Its only SLIGHTLY cheaper than a regular public instate university. SLIGHTLY.

Went here because I couldnt afford to go to UVA. Easily the worst decision Ive made in my life. There is no kind of support system. Canvas is somehow worse than my high schools educational base website. A horrendous school with a terrible staff. I tried to use rate my professor but it was near impossible to find a teacher with more than 3 stars. I think Ill just transfer out to a 4 year college this was one of the worst experiences I have ever faced.

Academic advising and financial aid have one job. ONE JOB — which they either have no clue how to do, or just don’t want to do it. I have had so many problems with NOVA from day one, I wish I could rate 0 stars. Recently, they dropped me from my spring classes (over half way through the semester) due to my “semester not being paid” even though I completed the spring payment plan in February. Not only are the department staff beyond incompetent, it seems as if their goal is to make you feel equally incompetent — something I do not appreciate nor tolerate. I cannot wait to terminate my relationship with this “academic institution” as this has been the largest waste of my money and time. Don’t waste yours on this BS! (Except our poor tax money is already being wasted here.)

Caution! Caution! before u apply for this school, pls take my experience into consideration. I came here as an international student and I didn’t know this school in the beginning. I saw estimated expansion on my i20 but they charged me a lot of invisible fees! They said those were application fee some sort of things like that. However I went to student page of website I cannot see those details of fees, so those were called invisible fees by me.Furthermore their instructors are not that professional and warm-hearted! The only thing they care about is money. Literally they ripped me off. I am so sad to chose the school like this. I eventually transferred out but that took me a while to wait for process. If u intend to apply for this school pls consider what I experienced!

I honestly like this school but there are some things that definitely need changing. It takes over a month, basically 2 months to be honest, to receive your financial refund. Thats halfway through the semester. It takes 3 months for your GI bill to be applied to your account in order for you to receive the rest of your refund. The semester is only 4 months. So you basically have to wait until the end of the semester in order to receive your money. I think thats outrageous. If I didnt need the money then I wouldnt be applying for it. The school expects you to pay them the day you start class but they want to wait 3 months to pay you. Ridiculous.

This school is a disgrace to the educational system. Very rude students, staff, professors, extremely unprofessional. Some classes are too easy, some are too hard, its like high school 2.0. Students sleeping in class, not paying attention, texting browsing the web will teachers teach the class and not even paying attention. Bad food, filthy place, dirty and nasty cops that work here, the staff does not care about the students and the counselors are a joke. High drop-out rate, low graduation rate. This school is trash, dont come here! Go to Southwest Virginia community college.

So many flaws in this school i dont even know where to begin. Terrible staff. Counselors and Financial aid “help” suck a big fat one. NOBODY wants to help you or see you succeed here. My financial state is worse than most kids that attend here yet i cant even get in but i see kids with millionaire parents that get in for FREE. Why cant i gain that kind of help? Corrupt system, unhelpful staff. The financial aid department is the WORST. The brown guy and the asian guy that works there are the worst. So unhelpful. The asain guy even looked me in my face and told me the system is corrupt. Fire everyone and replace them with people who actually care and are understanding of a students’ needs.

As an older student who briefly attended another community college in the Richmond area years ago, this school blew me away. They have a great focus on the community aspect of the school. They have events every day of the week, frequently provide free food/snacks and have giveaways for various things. This school works hard to empower its students by encouraging them to be active members of not only the NOVA Annandale campus community, but active in society in general. The student body is really culturally diverse. The bookstore is expensive but well kept, theres a Starbucks on campus complete with pastry options. Theres also an entire building dedicated to student life which includes the main cafeteria, pool tables, video game stations, and TVs playing music videos all day. The teachers are hit and miss, which is normal for pretty much anywhere. Yes, Veteran benefits take a while to post, but I dont blame the school. Anyone whos dealt with the VA knows what a painstaking process doing literally anything through them is.My only two complaints about this school:1. The advisors dont always give correct or up to date information. Id like to think this is a communication issue with them somehow being misinformed, rather than them just not caring enough to use active listening skills in order to provide the full scope of information theyre supposed to.2. The bathrooms in some buildings are painfully SMALL and sometimes gross. Im not a big girl by any means, but I am a full grown adult. These stalls are way too small for any normal sized human, (especially when wearing a backpack) it presents cleanliness issues and makes bathroom breaks a pretty uncomfortable task. If I have problems, I cant imagine the issues someone with a larger frame has.Overall, this campus is an excellent ccommunity college experience and Ill honestly be sad to leave when my time is up.

Id give this school a zero star rating if I could. Their transcripts take forever while other colleges in the nation send transcripts electronically. If you try to reach someone about your transcripts the only option you are given is an email (to which the response is slow) so you cant even ask via phone when the transcripts were actually sent. The only school they send records to electronically are George Mason. Not every student is going to a local college. This college is WAY behind in technology.
