I recently attended a Women and the Wheel course with Annapolis School of Seamanship, and I could not be more pleased! With a very small class size, we spent the entire day on the water with hands on instruction! Erica, our instructor was fantastic, providing encouragement, instruction and knowledge. We started the day with a review of basic boat terms and safety requirements- life jackets, safety signal, flares. Then, we immediately hit the water. While on the boat we learned and completed forward and reverse boat handling, how to determine who has the right of way, docking by pulling up to the side of a dock and in to a slip (forward & reverse), how to recognize specific markers on the water, and whistle/horn sounds. Erica is an experienced boat captain and answered every question from the group. She left us feeling comfortable and confident by the end of the day, which is exactly what I was hoping to accomplish! This course is worth every penny, highly recommend!!

Great school and great instructors. Was not an easy class but after it was over I knew I had knowledge to become a professional captain. Matt taught my class and his way of teaching was top notch. His methods work. I have already signed up to upgrade my license. After the class I upgraded my license to 100 ton and the towing endorsement. The online presentation and instruction was excellent for both courses. Called to schedule my test and they got me right in. The school and test are difficult but you know you really got once you have it completed.

First off - this was a great experience. My father and I took the class together since we had recently purchased an pacemaker with a yanmar engine. I personally knew nothing about diesel engines. We took the basic and advanced classes all in one block. We wanted to know the basics in case we had become stranded and also wanted to perform some basic maintenance. We were both impressed at the quality of the instruction. It was a nice small class size and you get grouped up to work on different engines. The last day was my favorite. He turned the key and it didnt start. Hmmmmm, wonder whats wrong? He had placed so many bugs in the system you needed to use all of the knowledge that had been provided to get the engine running. Made you feel pretty confident. The course paid off that season when I replaced some seals and impeller myself. Nope, didnt have to wait 6 weeks for a mechanic. Back on the water while my friends boat sits at the dock waiting for the mechanic. I loved this class. I eventually want to take the captians class and electrical class as well. Will not hesitate to sign up with these guys again.

Annapolis School of Seamanship is an outstanding company offering professional training to boat owners/operators that want to learn more about cruising safely, and responsibly. I have taken the Captains and Masters licensing courses, as well as their Basic Marine Diesel class. Very interesting, informative and helpful. Great facility and resources used in their courses. I plan on taking several more classes from A.S.S. to continue my boating knowledge and expertise.

I recently participated in the Marine Diesel Engine Basics class. It was well worth the time and money. Scott is an engaging teacher. There were several diesel engines on display in the classroom. It really helped alleviate the mystery and intimidation that had always characterized my interaction with these pieces of equipment. If you get a chance - take the class. You wont be sorry.

My daughter has taken both levels of the Jr Captains class and loved it. Well today we saw that she actually learned real time boating skills. Our family rented a boat out of Ocracoke, NC on our vacation. While we were out a bad storm rolled in and our daughter was able to jump right in and help get us back safely. She was truly confident and knew exactly what to do and it’s 100% because of the skills she learned and practiced at Jr Captains. Highly recommend for any kids/teens.

As and educator, I make for a very difficult student and find myself critiquing other instructors harshly. I can say that the instructors and courses at the Annapolis School of Seamanship are top notch. I took the Master 100 ton course under Captain Matt. Matts lesson delivery, knowledge of the content and availability/accessibility for his students is to be highly commended.

What a pleasant experience! I took the 100-ton Masters Captain course and was very pleased. Matt was our instructor and he did a phenomenal job teaching material that can be, lets say difficult or a little monotonous. I would assume the other classes are just as good, so I highly recommend them.

Our family has now taken two courses from this school, one for me and one for my son. I had a fantastic experience and felt that I gained a ton of confidence maneuvering confined areas. I really didn’t want to be ‘that guy’ when out on the boat due to my lack of knowledge. I feel so much better now knowing I won’t embarrass myself. My son took the week long course. He had fun meeting other kids and we feel much better knowing he’s got the training to be safe on the water. We plan to continue training with more advanced courses. Thanks to the instructors and staff for the great training.

Brittany and I had a fantastic experience with Capt. Matt Benhoff during the two-week 100 Ton Masters License Course. Matt was very professional, patient, knowledgable. I previously took the schools marine electronics course and we plan to return for the weather class. Great school, great experience.

Just took the Weather 1 class this weekend. Overall, it was an excellent introduction by a very knowledgeable and experienced sailor and instructor. I feel much more confident reading weather charts and forecasts, I understand better what creates weather, and I know where to look to find conditions and forecasts. Class size was good, with just 6 students.Im looking forward to going back shortly for the Marine Diesel intro class.

Annapolis School of Seamanship is an amazing school and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about boats or to get their captain license. The dedication and time that the instructors take towards each student is phenomenal. You can clearly tell that they have a true passion for their job, and they take such pride in their work. Students are provided with excellent course materials, hands on training, a positive student environment, and advanced technology to provide real live experiences in their courses. With the current COVID-19 situation, I am impressed with their creativity as they have done a fantastic job of ensuring their inhouse classes meet all regulations. The coursework is definitely challenging and students are really required to put in the work, but the end result is well worth it by having the pleasure of passing the exam and becoming a captain. The practice exam helps prepare you for the final certification by identifying areas you need to focus on. The instructors are extremely supportive and provide all their students the necessary tools so that they can successfully pass their class. The instructors even offered me additional assistance for any area that might prove challenging. I know that without the support of this fantastic staff, I would have had a more difficult time. For anyone that wants to get their license, certification or just learn more about being a mariner, this school is the place to go. You will be treated with respect, provided with excellent instruction and finally given the confidence to succeed in your goals to get your certification. Attending this school will not only result in you getting your license or certification, but you will be trained by professionals with decades of experience, given hands on training, in depth course instruction, meet new people, and finally learn all you want to know about how to be a mariner.

I signed up for the 6pack class at around 1200 dollars and it was not a school. The instructor (1with ten students) showed the roles and you were told to memorize, I never did navigation before, the proctor demonstrates one time then gives you exercises, they did not teach you but proctored at a speedy rate and never covered all the material. If I knew I would not of spent my hard earned money. This class is good for the experienced sailor. The classes were at a democratic club with no time to stay over for tutoring. lighting was terrible to mention a few. not to mention cov19 regulation not meet. No response from the owner or even received any monies back. So do not waist you money.

I just received my USCG credentials and could not have accomplished that goal without the education, information, direction, materials and assistance from the outstanding professionals at the Annapolis School of Seamanship. Captain Matt in my Masters Course, Captain Bill in my CPR, Towing and Sailing Courses and Captain Mark to help me fill out ALL of the PAPERWORK were beyond my expectations. Everyone at the school couldnt have been friendlier. They all take the process seriously as they should but also made it fun and rewarding. If your goal is to just better yourself as a boater or to obtain your Masters 100 Ton credentials, you need to go through this School! If anyone has had anything other than a great experience here, its THEIR problem!

Very professional and dedicated teaching staff whose main goal is the students education. Their location provides ample parking and is close to restaurants, pubs, delis and the Inn at Horn Point, who offers special rates for ASOS. Great for a commuter student or from out of the area.

Problematic facilities. Would not recommend. Impossible to see front of room and there were no seating options. Rude and unprofessional support staff but very knowledgeable diesel instructor. Unfortunately, because of the poor arrangement and lack of options, it was difficult to see what was being taught.
