I was looking for an opportunity to start training some type of martial art, and then the stars aligned and I saw that this gym was offering a 6 week challenge for free. Of course I signed up and I have no regrets. Everyone at the gym is extremely supportive and interested in not only developing their skills, but helping you grow your skills as well. I’ve been focusing on BJJ and even though I’m still getting messed up during rolling, I’m levels above where I was 6 weeks ago in terms of my skill level. So, if you’re looking for a way to get your foot into the world of martial arts, there’s no better place to start than here.

Great place to build your skills in BJJ! People are friendly, trainings demanding, yet very interesting, and instructors knowledgeable and caring about students progress. Highly recommend this place if you want to start practicing martial arts or switch from other type of butt kicking to more efficient one ;)

I have tried few Bjj places around this area but this place is the best! I started training few months back having back problems on and off for years from mostly sitting at work and few weeks later everything went away... coach William is a great young coach learning a lot from him every day, very technical, patient, conscious soul not to mention master coach Asu which I think there is not a lot of BJJ coaches out there that has jiu jitsu knowledge like him! I would recommend this place for beginners and advanced people in Bjj! It’s a great awesome feeling to learn from people who love what they doing for living!

Probably one of the best Gyms to train in the world if you really want to be one of the best (And I can state it with confidence since Ive been training all over the globe). Master Asu one of the most talented, professional, skillful coaches Ive met in my life. There are also great amount of professional athletes and black belt you can learn from. The training atmosphere is amazing, super friendly. I strongly believe its a great place for kids and adults whether they want to be strong and healthy or want to become Champions.

Ive been training with Champion JJ for 13, almost 14 years come January of 2021. Ive come to share many great memories and experiences with the team and Coach Harvard, who I consider a close friend, mentor and brother. Theres a reason this gym has been running for as long as it has in the NW suburbs of Chicago. I believe in this gym, not only for myself but for my own family. My brother now trains with me and soon my young son will be on the mats. If you have ever considered checking out jiu-jitsu, do yourself a favor and stop by, talk to the team members ask questions, get the vibe of the place and you will quickly realize there is no better place to train, learn great techniques, get in shape and most importantly become part of a family.

This place is awesome, because they care about respect, making sure we don’t injure each other, yet we get an amazing workout with tough people. The Master Asu really knows his stuff, he not only tells you The moves and techniques, but goes into depth as to why that works and all the defenses to it as well. If your interested just try it out.

Messaged them cause I recently moved to the area and want to continue training Jiu jitsu. Saw online they have a few black belts and thought it may be a good place to check out. I received an email back fast and we proceeded to email back and forth a few times in the same day, so their representative was extremely responsive to emails. I asked about wanting to try a trial class for my wife and I. They said there is a 25 dollar fee per person and for both of us they could give us a cheaper rate of 40. Ive never heard of any place charging a fee and not giving atleast a free trial class, many give a free week, or even give a free month. Not this place. I then informed them that I am a black belt and my wife is a blue belt because it is almost standard that a credited black belt will train for reduced price or more often than not train for free, or atleast not have to pay a drop in fee. I very politely asked them if the fee still applied to me and if there was any form of discount for being a black belt since their representative asked me if I would be interested in teaching at there gym to which he informed me was on a volunteer (unpayed) basis only. That was over 3 days ago now, no response to my simple questions about the trail class fee of 40, or if theres any potential discounts. This representative of the gym also asked me to wait till August 23rd to come in for my trail class cause their main instructor is out of town. (THIS HAPPENED AUGUST 6TH) so they wanted me to wait over 2 weeks just to pay to try out a class.... unreal, and absolutely unprofessional to not even respond to a very polite and direct question. Any place that wants to charge you to try out a trail class to become a place you may sign up at, or asks you to wait over 2 weeks just to come in Id shy away from, its probably only a sign of other negative things to come.

The instruction received at this school is very intense but at the same time the teachers give you the material you need to succeed both physical and mentally. The teachers are very talented martial artists and I hold the utmost respect for them. They also recognize the variations of ability level of students and effectively work with them to assist them in learning what they need to know. They are very equipped masters in their respective fields and along with teaching the style teach core life values that are forever instilled in my mind. I HIGHLY recommend this dojo if you wish to learn martial arts. Their BJJ classes are some of the best I have taken. They have a very well equipped up-to-date facility as well. Five out of five stars in my book.

I’ve been lucky enough to train with Assou for almost 15 years now. Assou has been there at every step in my BJJ journey since I was 6. Along with becoming a champion in the sport, Assou has also prepared me for behind a champion in life. Currently I’m a sophomore in college, and Assou has inspired me and other students to work hard in the classroom and pay attention to the details. Champion JJ will not only teach to become the best in the sport, but also the best in life.

My daughter trains at this gym and loves it. She has been here for 6 months and has learned more than she did at her last school in a year and a half. Every class is very intense and she walks away with a feeling of accomplishment. We know this was the best decision we made for her and her training. We know Master Asu will take her far.

Ive trained at other MMA and Jiu Jitsu schools in Europe and USA in the past, but Champion Jiu Jitsu Martial Arts Academy really stands out tall in all of them. There are a lot of reasons, why I am still sticking to this Academy since the last 5 years but first and foremost is the instructor. Prof. Master Asu Harvard, who is not only an extremely talented Jiu Jitsu athlete, but also possesses an exceptional talent for teaching. He engages the students not only on individual level in a way that makes them champions but also in a group setting, where everybody can improve his/her style, technique and stamina. He is the most friendly, personal and talented trainer I have ever met, who always gives you a feeling of ownership and proud for this academy. The facility in Wheeling Illinois itself is Japanese clean, the mats are disinfected and cleaned everyday, the Mens and Womens changing rooms are adequate and neat. There is also a separate Dojo for individual and extensive training, for the ones who want to compete on different levels.Lastly, I must mention the overall environment, upon entering one is personally greeted by Professors Wife, who also takes care of all the administrative stuff in this Academy. In the years I have been training here I met some of the nicest and interesting people. The students here are diverse in background, age, gender, and by physique. Everyone is incredibly respectful, friendly, and genuine.Joining this academy was one of the best decisions Ive ever made!

My husband has been taking BJJ classes at Spider Gym MMA for about a year now and is loving it. He used to attend a Jiu Jitsu school years and years ago but is now really into the brazilian style and loves the instructors and curriculum at Spider Gym. Its a great physical fitness regime and definitely beats hiring a personal trainer. We enrolled our son a couple of days a week into one of their after school programs and he really loves being like his daddy. At home he plays submission wrestling with his dad and keeps talking about wanting to get his black belt. Anyway, we just wanted to say a big thanks for all of the support and training tips.

THESE PEOPLE ARE COMPLETE FRAUD. I have had my touch to different martial arts over the years, and I have trained in clubs in Europe and North America. I however had never trained BJJ so I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately Spider Gym was close enough to my house so I went and signed there. From the very beginning I explained to master Asu,( which by the way I believe is not his real first name, but his last one is Harvard as same as the last name of the girl who wrote one of the three real excellent reviews above, just because she is his daughter and exuberantly in a hurry to join the family business of stealing money from people who want to learn something new), I explained to him that my ambition is to compete, considering my background, so he suggested that I should take private one on one sessions to help me advance quicker. I agreed then, Ms. Harvard charged me an amount four times bigger then the usual monthly memberships payment, yet he forgot to discharge me from my regular monthly memberships payment. So guess what, even though I was paying 5 times the usual tax, I received exactly 0 one on one private sessions with him. What Mr. Harvard did was to include me into the BJJ advanced class, which is a decision that completes the range from silly to very dangerous. When I realized what is going on, I asked to be removed from the private sessions and be just a regular practitioner. He said ok, but did not stop taking money for it. Every time I asked him about the charges I was given sleazy answers such as: I forgot to tell my wife, we will figure it out, we will talk about it later, but my money were still taken. My only move in situation like that was to quit this club and be over with, as I did but Spider Gym wasnt over with me. They kept charging my credit cardI send them pleading and begging emails to stop the nonsense, I filed disputes via my credit card company, two per month, but these people needed my money badly. My next step was to contact an attorney when, the stealing suddenly stopped.Which led me to believe that Mr. Harvard had had previous experience in this field.Besides that, Mr.Asu never hesitated to badmouth any of his non present students or coaches, in front of the present ones, he also deliberately diminished the name of religious-like figures for the BJJ world like the Gracie family, although they are the creators of BJJ.If you still want to train there you should know, there are no yoga classes, BJJ classes work for kids or adults from purple belt and above because they wouldnt really need to learn from the fake Asu, there is no kickboxing class, the boxing coach is good, MMA could be trained because there are a lot of ambitious guys who go there and you will get good sparring partners, yet if you are beginner looking for MMA class this place is not for you, and the chance to be robbed of your money always stands.

I started a class of boxing last month and it was really cool . I enjoyed every class more and more ... The coachs have a really good energy and make everyone feel special. Although, the classes are not private, you still feel that youre getting that one-on-one focus from your coachs. They also offer a variety to choose from, so for those who are not big fan of boxing, there are various martial art classes to choose from and I beleive they are starting a Bikram/Hot yoga class next month, sep, 2013.
