Tried a class out tonight on Data Analytics and Tableau. Super helpful intro class for $30 and 2 hours. Their space is really cool, like the rest of Ponce. I would definitely come back again for a class to think differently about my existing work.

While the instructor was a nice guy, it was a pretty big waste of time and money if you already have a degree in graphic design. Its theories and best practices you already know only with a UX focus. The rest of it isnt anything you couldnt learn in your own studies or by taking much cheaper courses online. I regret it.Also, the UX crowd is very different from art department people; not in a good way. I knew there would be some differences but its pretty vast actually. Live and learn.

General Assembly manipulates data and outright lies to fill classes and churn out “UX Grads” without the qualifications or experience for an entry level job in UX. Don’t commit to these courses unless you have a plan to pay off the loans without a UX Design job.

That was before pandemic. Ether earlier this year or end of last year. I went to an orientation for “beginners” UX Design class.I am sixty years old and English is as my second language. Retired graphic designer, trying something new, but somewhat related to the field I am familiar with. I was interested in UX Design. In the session, I had few questions to ask. But presenters and instructors just ignore me, that I am not even there. They kept going session based on people who already have some knowledge. One other older person and I felt we were left out.Neither presenter nor instructor paid attention to me or didn’t even chance to ask for a small support.

I did a good amount of research and deliberation before I started taking my coursework at General Assembly. I was referred to them from a friend who surprisingly enjoyed their product management coursework. He eventually got promoted at his job because of his experience and new skill set.The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and well linked in the respective fields they provide coursework like digital marketing, data analytics, graphic design and etc. The admissions team was great at explaining what coursework would be best for my computer skill level and what I wanted to learn.General Assembly offers two different payment plans which they also explained well. I opted to go with the two installments as it was the most convenient. The 10 week course for Data Analytics is a great comprehensive entry level coursework for those new to all things data. I will emphasize the coursework is geared towards more entry level students. Before the coursework you take a test to assess where each student is level wise for Excel. The instructor mixed both intermediate and basic levels to each unit. He ensured all students understood and implemented the material. The instructor was easy to understand and set aside some class time as practice time.General Assembly’s facilities are well designed with classrooms fully equipped to do presentations, study rooms for groups and individuals, communal tables and a special events area. Students are welcome to use the study rooms by reservation.Overall I give a five star rating based upon the instructors, variety of coursework, available and resourceful staff and the featured seminars and forums.

Do not waste your money unless you want to be out 15k and absolutely NO support to get a job. You’d be better off teaching yourself. This is a SCAM.

It was a bit difficult to get in touch with admissions, but I did end up taking their vis design class and it was a pleasant experience. The staff was friendly, my instructor was A+, you could definitely tell he knew what he was talking about and was good at working with students one on one if needed, the facility is really nice, there’s always coffee and tea which is great for those evening classes. Taking a part time class will get you certified and the skills to practice what you learn on your own, you’ll just need discipline to continue working on your own after the class is done.If you’re looking to take a well constructed class in order to learn new skills or be up to date in tech / business, this is definitely the place.

I was part of the WDI19 cohort. Id think twice before signing up for this program. You will have to shell out at least $14k to be taught Web Development from teachers (in my experience) that did not specialize in JavaScript. They make you waste 1-2 hours a week on outcomes (designed to help you get a job) with an instructor who has no experience in Web Development or connections with professionals in the industry. They talk up their showcase and get barely any employers to come. You will learn some very basic JavaScript techniques, but by no means will this prepare you for a job in the industry. Almost all of the lessons were from a different teacher who is no longer employed at this location. Only about 30% of my class is employed after finishing in March 2019. You could get the same knowledge by studying Team Treehouse for a fraction of the cost.Try looking at DigitalCrafts or Flat Iron School if you are in the Atlanta area, or just self-study. This is definitely not worth it.

Nothing against the school but if you apply for a loan they dont tell you that they dont allow you to work a job while in school. So they approved my loan I got accepted into the school passed all my tests did all the projects then the final step is to talk to the lender. I had already quit my job and bought a mac book pro. Then the final interview with the lender they told me I was denied because I wanted to work part time. They could have told me this up front.

I was part of the UXDI 14 cohort. General Assembly actively engages in providing misleading statistics for the purposes of recruiting new students. They exclude the majority of the class from their stats by excluding students that dont follow through with their outcomes program that is repetitive and ineffective.A large number of my class were given partial refunds in exchange for signing a NDA due to GA misleading students about class size so many have to remain silent. The fact is that after 5 months, 75% of my cohort remain unemployed in the UX field and now are carrying over $14,000 in student loans. If you want to become a UX designer explore other institutions and know that the employment numbers that General Assembly provides are based on false and or incomplete information.

Attended an Introduction to Illustrator event and a Blogging workshop. Great instructors and love the new location! The interior setup alone makes you want to work and network in here all the time. Thanks for expanding in Atlanta!
