The Ballard family brings a large and warm bundle of knowledge, experience, discipline, kindness, and professionalism to the Korean Academy of Taekwondo. I have known Mr. and Mrs. Ballard for over 15 years and was very pleased the first time I began training at their school in Albuquerque. It was hard work, rewarding, and worth every minute I was at the school. The entire family is an example to follow in training and everyday life. Both adults and children will receive quality training that lasts a lifetime.

I have been a part of KAT for over 15 years as a student, instructor, owner, and now as a parent as my kids are students of Master Ballard. Master Chris Ballard and his family are great to train with. They are calm, sincere, experienced and the taekwondo school atmosphere is friendly and great for kids and adults alike. Both taekwondo and jui jitsu programs are offered. The facility is clean and they are good about following Covid protocol.

If you want your children to gain confidence and self esteem, in addition to physical fitness, this is the place for them. As for parents and adults over 40, the Silver Tigers program teaches self defense tactics in addition to traditional Taekwondo. I started taking classes last year because they were offered through my community college. I did not think I would continue, but I was wrong. Korean Academy of Taekwondo has been a wonderful experience. I have grown in my health and fitness; the discipline I use in class has transferred over into other areas and helped to improve my quality of life. Master Bill, Master Katie, along with all of the other instructors are very knowledgeable in what they do. They have amazing skill, technique and passion for the art that help you develop more than you think you can. I have enjoyed my experience very much. We are now working on starting a club at our school so other students can take classes at the Korean Academy of Taekwondo. Im looking forward to continuing my training and helping others begin their journey at this martial arts school!

I began going to the Korean Academy of Taekwondo back when it was started by Grand Master J. K. Chung. This school and its instructors are truly like family, and I am honored to train with the all of the instructors and masters within the school! I give this school 5 stars, because of the training curriculum that is offered. The facility that students have to train in. The quality of instructors it has, and produces. The diversity of skills and abilities within the school. The personal growth that comes with each belt ranking. Most of all, the fact that this school pushes you to be the best you can be! If you are waivering on if this is a good school or not from the reviews--all I have to say is get in and start training to see for yourself!

With respect to Tom Thomas comments if he wishes to share his satisfaction with the school that is great. But when he comments on issues, situations, and people he knows nothing about that is another matter. Making excuses and pulling hypothesis like reverse bullying out of one’s rear end demonstrates low character and a lack of integrity. Mr. Thomas comments sadly suggest not much has changed at KAT. Perhaps there are parents out there who have children who have been bullied and school officials said things similar to Mr. Thomas. The issue is with your child or you have poor parenting skills. If his argument sounds reasonable give it a try as he suggested. I can agree with things he mentioned about Master Bill. Personally I liked him. He was nice and very polite. That doesnt dismiss what happened to our son. What Master Bill said about this happening years ago is also true but recent events caused us to post our experience. We had quietly moved on but I will not stand for what is now a learning sanctuary for our son to be put in jeopardy. Since it was not plausible in Mr. Thomas’ mind I will explain from our experience how and why this could happen at KAT. Master Bill is not a strict, hard Zen disciplinarian. In some ways he is as playful as the students he teaches. He has a wonderful relationship with so many of his students and these are things that are certainly positives. But if one student dislikes another student and is perceived as a leader there they can bully the disliked child and others will join in to be accepted. None of the students involved were disciplined in any way in fact the students I hold mostly responsible were fast tracked due to their success at tournaments. I wish nothing but the best for Master Bill as I said he is a nice person as is his wife. A suggestion of creating a charter of respect for one’s self and others might help prevent this kind of thing in the future. The balance between fun and discipline should also be made. Master Bill would never condone bullying but the lax environment gave a couple of students their opportunity. For us things just got out of control and by the time the bullying had stopped our son was in no position to grow there. Its tough to try to perform and be your best in front of people who have mocked and teased you in the past. So we moved to another school. I cant say enough good things about ESA.

I am taking the Taekwondo course at Metro State University in Denver with the instructor Bill Pottle. Initially, I felt out of place. I did not enroll because I wanted to learn about it, but because I needed the credits to be a full time student. I have definitely developed a love for this art; I just received my yellow belt and intend to grow in my skill and rank. Master Bill is a great instructor. Every time he explains a kick, a defensive move, or even a form, my eyes are locked on his movements; I want to make sure I can do it to the best of my abilities. The higher belts too are great. I always try to imitate their techniques. Its great that they take the time to help us lower belts improve our techniques and skills.

I started Taekwondo in Tennessee when I was 9. When my family moved back here, I did not get back into for several years. Then, first year of college, I happened to see the class warming up up as I walked past. This introduced me to Master Pottle, and the Korean Academy of Taekwondo. I trained with them all through out college, gaining valuable weight loss (54.9 inch waist at start to 34 inch waist at graduation, as well as self defense experience. The school is always forward looking, without ever losing sight of the fundamentals. The training is practical, fun, and exhausting. I hold a 4th Dan black belt through them. The 1st and 2nd Dans I received in an ATA school, the 3rd and 4th through KAT. The black belt tests, unlike so many other schools make you feel like you earned it. It isnt easy, and it shouldnt be. The last test had more than 15 hours of test time over 4 parts. I highly recommend this school, the staff are friendly and helpful, the headmaster is smart, polite, and innovative, and the training is top notch. This is the style done in the Olympics after all, and sometimes Olympians come to train with us. It is an Excellent school.

I found KAT in 2009, at the time I was so eager to travel and see, and train in other dojangs just meet new people as well getting more teaching experience and share ideas. 2012, I made it to Colorado/KAT. I’ve learned a lot plus Master Bill and his family are really super cool people and always happy to help. They’re truly Tae Kwon Do Masters! If all Masters were like them, a lot of people would benefit a lot in the field of tkd. If you want to your child/children to learn Tae Kwon Do, bring them to KAT, they’ll learn a lot and have so much too. KAT headmaster is so creative and this makes his students so excited and always looking forward to their next class....I am telling you all this from experience, I travel 10,000 miles to come to KAT to learn more, so I can spice up my lessons back in Uganda. Join KAT today and you will meet all the great martial artists! I only have 14 days until I go back home, I will see u all soon, if I make it back to the United States.... stay blessedMaster Ahmed BamuwayiraKAT Uganda

Our whole family began studying Tae Kwon Do together at the Korean Academy of Tae Kwon Do back in May. It has helped my kids to be more disciplined and focused in many areas of their lives and given them goals to work toward. For each belt test, parents have to complete a rating scale about the child’s behavior at home and the children also need to bring in a report card or letter from their teacher reporting that they are demonstrating good effort in all areas. The kids (and adults too) have to write an essay on a value such as “trust,” “kindness, “ “perseverance, “ “integrity, “ etc. I feel that Tae Kwon Do is a great asset to our family in so many ways. It helps with discipline, respect, commitment, integrity, sense of community, confidence, and physical fitness. Furthermore, I think that the instructors there are fantastic. I have been very impressed with their skill and also how they run the classes. The only complaint I have at all is that I wish the class sizes were a little smaller. However, often there are several instructors helping out in which case we still feel like we are getting individualized attention. We have only taken the beginner classes at this point but we have had great experiences with Master Bill, Bethany, Jacob, Christina, Kyle, Jared, and Joseph. We plan to keep doing this together as a family and will hopefully move up to the intermediate classes in January.

We enrolled our son in Taekwondo because he was being bullied at school. We transferred from ILYO Taekwondo when Master Cutright retired. Instead of being welcomed our son was bullied by the students at KAT. Since the biggest bully was a tournament star other students joined in on the bullying. We spoke to Master Pottle and he told me to my face that he cant control the kids and also suggested that our son was imagining something that wasnt happening. We observed the bullying first hand and knew he wasnt making it up. A meeting was held with the father and Mr. Pottle in the office and both apologized and swore it would stop. After yet another bullying incident Mrs. Pottle informed me that they had never given a black belt to someone this young before and perhaps they would need to revoke it due to his immaturity. Nothing happened and our son never grew or improved. We had to make a change and now drive 45 minutes to a better school. We now go to ESA where the instructor there has made progress in correcting our sons technique. At ESA they can control the kids and on our first visit the entire class lined up to introduce themselves and welcome our son to their school. Respect and discipline are more than words at ESA.

It was my first Tae Kwon Do class ever and the course taught me various Tae Know Do techniques both traditional and modern. Also, I was able to train with higher belts not just those at the beginner level. With this mixture of different levels, you are able to receive more feedback and encouragement to push your limits.
