My fiancée and I love taking dance lessons from Jake! Everyone at Austin Uptown Dance is friendly and welcoming and Jake is an incredible dance instructor. We started taking lessons to get ready for our wedding, and Jake turned our regular lessons into one of the highlights of the wedding planning process (and date night!). He’s gone above and beyond to choreograph our first dance, edit music, help coordinate with our band, teach us new moves, and most importantly have a ton of fun on the dance floor. We’re also always impressed by all of the talented students and instructors having a good time in the studio. We highly recommend checking out Austin Uptown Dance and signing up for lessons with Jake. If you’re looking for a fun studio with talented instructors and a great environment for learning, then look no further!

My husband and I went to Uptown Dance to get a choreographed first dance at our wedding. All I can say is WOW! Not only was our choreography on point but Hilary made learning so much fun. You can tell that all the teachers there truly love what they do which makes the experience so enjoyable. We are so excited to come back for more lessons and date nights!

Meeting Hilary and taking lessons and classes from her not only improved our dancing, it changed our lives. She is so positive and professional, she knows exactly what and how much to teach us and keeps us improving and having fun. The whole place has such a fun and positive environment, with champion instructors willing to help anyone at any level. We are happy every time we step into the studio and any cares or concerns of the world just go away as we focus on dance.

My husband and I took private lessons from Jenny at Austin Uptown Dance. She taught us a waltz and choreographed our first dance for our wedding. She also did an awesome job editing and cutting our music for the first dance. We thoroughly enjoyed our lessons with Jenny. She was very patient and encouraging with us and made us feel relaxed. Everyone at the wedding loved our first dance! Thanks Jenny!

I love this place! Weve been taking lessons with Jenna for months, specifically to look good for our first dance at our wedding, but also learning some other dances. The vibe is casual and relaxed. Jenna is able to meet us where we are and create a supportive atmosphere where we can have fun as a couple while still actually improving our skills. Would highly recommend - so much fun!

I am SO happy to be a part of Austin Uptown Dance. Whenever I walk through the doors to practice or take a lesson, I feel like Im at home because this studio feels like a family. Ive never been part of a studio that so highly values and celebrates not only the accomplishments of their students, but also those of their instructors (who are all incredible). The amount of support and positivity in this studio is amazing. In addition, Austin Uptown goes above and beyond to help make dancing accessible to students like myself who are already taking out loans for school. I would recommend anyone learning to dance go to Uptown.

My wife and I have been dancing for 7 years at 3 different dance studios. All have been excellent and we have learned a lot, but Austin Uptown Dance has been the best experience! The dance floor itself is the best in the city. The staff is fantastic. The instructors are not only very knowledgeable in dance, but are genuinely enthusiastic about teaching their students to dance well and thoroughly enjoy dancing. They have teachers who can successfully teach all levels of dancers as well as types of dances. The monthly socials have a real party atmosphere with great music and dancing. We look very forward to our private lessons and socials. Our teacher, Hilary, is amazing, but in observing other private lessons and classes while at the studio, you cant go wrong with any of instructors. As nearing senior citizen status I cannot recommend partner dancing enough as a means to enhance your physical and mental health.

We went to Uptown Dance to practice for our first wedding dance and had a wonderful experience working with Hilary! She gave us the confidence and moves necessary to wow our crowd and make it a night to remember. We two-step together quite a bit, but we were able to clean up and polish our existing moves and add new some spectacular new ones -- we love Uptown Dance!

My wife and I have been taking lessons at Austin Uptown Dance for several months and love it. They have great instructors and a friendly atmosphere. They offer many different styles of dance, although our focus has been Two Step and West Coast Swing. We signed up for the unlimited group lessons, which allows us to take as many as we want, and really makes sense if you plan on learning more than one style of dance. We have met many new friends here and are very happy with the facility.

I visited several studios on Austins Free Day of Dance, and decided to try out the awesome new student special being offered at Austin Uptown Dance. I enjoyed it so much, Im still there over a year later. If you want to learn to dance, you have no excuse not to do so - they offer a variety of classes, private lessons, social dancing, specialized workshops and events, and group outings to local dance spots. Dont be shy, and dont worry if you dont have a partner - all the classes rotate partners frequently, so everyone gets a chance to dance with multiple partners. I highly recommend the monthly unlimited pass, especially if you are interested in learning lots of different styles. They offer multiple free open houses throughout the year, which are a great way to try out the studio. Hope to see you on the dance floor!

Ive been going to Austin Uptown Dance off and on for a number of years, attending various workshops or dance events. Id always been impressed by the quality of the workshop teachers and material, and by the wonderful facility. Such a great big and beautifully danceable floor. Super convenient parking. Good clean restrooms, and more. Then a little over a year ago I started going there twice a week or more to work with Liz Diana on a ProDVIDA certification in Argentine tango. I got to know the facility and staff much better. I cant say enough good things about Liz. She is so knowledgeable in her craft, communicates so clearly, and has such an upbeat, supportive personality. Owners Kristy and Carson Watson are friendly and helpful. Denis Generalov, an international ballroom teacher, is also a wonderful teacher, with impeccable technique. Even though Argentine tango is not his dance, hes been able to help me with technique. And Shari Black at the front desk, such a dear sweet person. Shes been around the ballroom and Argentine tango scene forever, and shes so kind and helpful. The studio has four ballroom floors of various sizes. All of them have the same wonderful, high quality dance floor, and all of them have nice sound isolation from each other. Its a great all around experience, for the people, the teachers, the workshops and events, and the facility.

We took private wedding dance lessons with Carson and had a blast. He put together a choreography based on our first dance choice and every lesson was a lot of fun. Would definitely recommend Austin Uptown Dance and Carson to everyone who is looking for something a bit more unique for their first dance.

Booked a Salsa class here though Classpass, and was very excited to check out . When I tried to check in the woman at the desk unapologetically told me the class was part of a series and I wouldnt be allowed to join because it would be too advanced for me.I asked why this wasnt listed on the description when i booked and she brushed me off saying yeah sorry we need to work on that. After being turned away pretty rudely, I was ALSO charged $20 by ClassPass because she marked me absent for the class even though she turned me away.

Decent enough if you can get into the higher levels. But If youre a beginner I really wouldnt recommend it, as the level 1 classes are just too slow. Some things I didnt care for:-The first level is EXCRUCIATINGLY slow. I mean practically unbearable. Only one or mayyybe two moves taught per lesson. I know multiple people who didnt finish the starter program because they got bored and stopped coming. The classes are in 3 levels, (1, 2, and 3 increasing in difficulty). Level 1 is 2 months long. Level 3 is 6 months.- On top of being slow, the 2 months of the level 1 class didnt even have new stuff for each of the 8 weeks. One week after a repeat lesson I asked the instructor what they would be covering the next week to see if it was even worth coming. He said he didnt know (??) and brushed me off. I didnt go the next week.- To get into the higher levels before completing the entire two months of level 1 or 6 months of level 2, they make you take a private lesson (~$70+). So if Ive been dancing for years and could easily join level 3, I still have to spend $70+ to go up? What?- I did in fact test into level 3 for salsa and cha cha, even though Ive only been dancing for a few months at other places (says something about the difficulty). Level three was at least interesting enough to be worth it, but still not as challenging as other intermediate level classes Ive done.- Cant speak for other genres of classes, but the latin classes overlap. Why would you put all the latin classes on the same days? Then people who want to learn multiple of the latin dances (often the case) at the same time arent as likely to be able to depending on the level theyre doing. Thats just poor planning. If Salsa 1 is in one room the other rooms should have either non-latin dances or different levels of salsa to ensure people arent missing out on the other dances they are likely interested in.- The lack of challenge might be because the primary attendees of this studio seem to be retirees. Thats all fine and dandy, but something to keep in mind if you want a more rigorous dance experience.- There is no level 3 bachata that I know of, not sure why, but kind of a bummer.
