I was visiting Austin for work and dropped in for a gi class. Had a great time there. The gym is very clean and spacious. Friendly atmosphere, courteous professor and students. Loved how the professor let us drill the technique a lot. I find it extremely important. Im glad I went and trained there. Thank you so much!!

I practice BJJ in Michigan and did a drop in at Paragon/Austin. Super clean, really welcoming/friendly, good instruction/drilling and nice atmospheric and at the end of class we did timed rounds. Really fun. I cannot wait to return!

I was able to drop in for a couple classes while I was in town for a few days visiting family and had a blast. The skill level here is clearly high, had a lot of fun tough rolls and picked up a few techniques from the upper belts. Cannot recommend this place enough to anyone thinking about trying a class.

I have competed against Paragon gym members at AGF Tournaments on multiple occasions and found their members excellent fighters and very humble. Whenever I am in Austin for work I pack my gi and visit Paragon to gain a little knowledge and get some fun rounds in. -Whether you are advanced or a beginner this gym has something to offer you.

I bought my house sight unseen before moving to Texas because of this gym. I knew it was where I wanted to train, so I wanted to live nearby. I cant say enough about Joses instruction, or about Lauras customer service. It is a supportive place to train BJJ, no-gi grappling, and wrestling. It is a very woman-friendly gym.

I came to visit this gym last spring and had an awesome time. The students there are friendly, and the rolls are tough. The coaches seem dedicated to the students and I can see why! I definitely look forward to going back there once the pandemic is over!!

I alway try to visit local BJJ academies when I travel. Being a higher rank this can sometimes be an issue as some people want to test the new guy. That was not my experience at all at Paragon. They had great communication when I reached out about visiting and everyone there was welcoming and respectful. I had some really tough rolls with their guys and learned several details I will definitely use from the instructor. If you are looking for a traditional BJJ academy that is welcoming, professional and clean, this is the place for you!

Great atmosphere with high level jiu jitsu!

I travel a lot and am always looking for places to train while on the road. A friend-of-a-friend recommended Paragon during a recent trip to Austin, and I have been thanking him ever since. The owner and coach Robert was very helpful getting me set up, and took a moment before class to introduce me to the group (nice touch). The lunch time class had around 16 people in it, and there was a range from white to brown belts. The warm up was pretty standard (jogging, bear crawls, shrimping, squats, push ups, etc.), then we moved on to techniques. We worked on some half-guard, and I really liked Roberts approach. He started off with some very basic moves, and gradually progressed to much more advanced ones - and all in the space of 1/2 hour. While drilling, Robert gave a lot of individualized attention which was important as I got stuck a couple of times. Then, it was time to roll, and I had partners the full range of the room (white to brown belt). The rounds were solid, and I was able to get some really good training. I had a great time, was able to train hard (without killing myself), Robert was extremely helpful, and his students were very welcoming. I will definitely be back the next time I am in Austin!

I have visited this gym a few times while traveling to Austin to work. If I lived here, this would be my home gym. The instructors are fantastic. The students are fantastic. Everyone made me feel welcome and treated me like part of the family. I picked up some great details and enjoyed drilling/rolling with every single person. I also attended the wrestling class and had fun/learned more than I imagined possible. The gym is clean and spacious. (Im female/blue belt)

Great experience for an out- of-town visitor. Jose was excellent and welcoming, as were the other students in class, with nearly all of them approaching me and introducing themselves. The 6:30a all levels gi class was well-represented with great teaching and great rolls. Outstanding experience. I will be back.

I contacted Paragon to see if I could tag along for a few sessions during a work trip in Austin, which was totally possible. Came to Austin on business and my instructor pointed me to this Paragon Jiu Jitsu. The class was full of upper belts and it was very tough training. Everyone was very welcoming and I felt like I was in my own gym. After the class several guys stayed and we cleaned up some positions. It was great experience, I will do it every time I am in Austin. I went to open mat on a Friday night. I was treated incredibly well right when I walked in the door. Clean facility, lots of mat space, and everyone I rolled with was incredibly courteous. I’m honored to be the 100th review. I cannot say enough nice things about this academy. I thought I’d check out every studio in town but the environment was so welcoming I just wanted to focus that attention on training instead. But more important than being friendly, the instructors took me seriously as a student. As a woman right now in the sport you’re gonna be outnumbered (maybe that’ll some day change), but having Laura working there was relaxing and inspiring. It was just luck that I started training here and after a week or so I went to a tournament and my fellow students dominated. The community here is focused on collective success, they enjoy seeing each other achieve just as much as themselves. Very cool to see and it enriched my time in Austin.

Paragon has my highest recommendation. I have been an out-of-town visitor twice now. What a great place! Robert D. went out of his way to be welcoming from the first time I walked in. Hes a super great guy to train with too. Everyone was very skilled, and very down to earth. Jeff R. is an amazing instructor. You just cant go wrong with these guys. The facility is very clean, and there are both mens and womens shower facilities. If I lived in Austin, Id train here--absolutely no hesitation. I already cant wait to come back, and I was just there. Overall, if youre interested in learning about jujitsu--whatever your level--and want to train in a place thats friendly, professional, real, and excels, this is just the place youll want to be.

We were in town for a weekend getaway after a job interview, so we decided to drop in to train away all the BBQ we had. So grateful to have such a warm welcome from Jeremy and Laura (even though we were late)! The fundamental class had a huge variety of experienced people from different levels. The atmosphere was relaxed and humble, making it easy to jump right in. There were only a few unisex bathrooms so be prepared with your gi bc there can get to be a bottleneck before and after class when you need to change. Hope to come back to train again next time were in town!

This place is awesome. I went on Wednesday, and rolled with a few friends and the locals there. The atmosphere is welcoming and everyone there is a killer. People are super humble, and just want to get better and have fun. Great place to train, and a great place for friends.

Extremely friendly and approachable gym. The owner himself answered my email questions and recalled who I was when I arrived. Their fundamentals class is super interesting--Jose breaks things down effectively and there are plenty of higher level belts willing to work with you. I will definitely return.

Best competition focused school in the area. Robert, Jose, Jeremy and David are all really solid coaches. Tons of individual attention... Youll ask for help with one thing and five different people walk over to help.

Tonight was my second time popping into Paragon to train and my experience both times have been exceptional. The gym is top notch and everyone I have met training here has been very welcoming. The attention to detail from the coaches while drilling for me being a white belt and new to the Jiu Jitsu game is very much needed! My husband and I were visiting from out of town and decided to drop by their afternoon class and train. Facilities are clean- changing rooms with showers for both men and women. Mats are nice with very spacious work area. Coach Robert showed us around and Coach Jose taught afternoon class- instruction was great and the rolls were fun, yet constructive. We had a great time, and will definitely train here again if in Austin! Oss!

I was just passing through Austin for a few days and Robert was very accommodating. I did the Noon class at which he taught a great passing technique with very specific details. There was a good balance of technique and actual training. The rest of the guys are very friendly that I trained with as well. I look forward to training again at Paragon Austin.

Great classes and format, and very hospitable. I had to come into town for work, and they welcomed me in with open arm. Classes are set up by teaching a single technique or two, followed by anywhere from 45 mins to an hour of rounds. Round can either be sweep and submit format and round, or just rounds. Great place to go in Austin

Im in Austin visiting and going to Paragon for training during my stay here, which is where both my adult children have been going to for the past 2-3 years. The instructors there are excellent and very professional and friendly, with a lot of attention to detail and clear way of explaining the techniques. Definitely the place to go to for improving your Brazilian jiu jitsu. Awesome atmosphere, everybody is very welcoming, made some new friends too :-) Overall love this place!

I’m in town for two weeks working in Austin. I spent the last week drop-in touring all the notable Academies... there are so many good schools out here. I had great experiences at them all. Today, I visited the last school on my list: Paragon Jiu-Jitsu Academy. I’ll be training here the rest of my stay, and every visit moving forward. Not only were Robert and Jose really cool, but all of the students were super down to earth, very welcoming, and hitters at that. Jose taught the class I attended; you can tell he’s a “devil in the details” kind of guy. Not only that, but his instruction delivery was on point.The academy is super clean, they offer two showers, and the wood edging on the side of the mats with the dark stain was a nice touch. You can tell there is a lot of pride in this school.

My wife and I visited these guys while seeing friends in Austin who also train there. I couldnt have had a cooler experience! Rob welcomed us and Jose taught the class. I felt very welcome as they are suuuuper nice guys! The facilities were very clean and big. Jose taught us some deep-half techniques which totally elevated my game. He is such a great teacher! Very attentive to every student. He will even step in and drill with you to make sure you get it right. When you teach like that, its no wonder why their students (and teachers) get do many medals. The vibe was chill but they work hard. Cant wait to visit these guys again! Oss!!!

Great bunch of guys! My friend and I went in for a trial class recently and we both had a blast! I have a little less than 1 year of experience and it was my friends first class. Everybody was willing to take time out of their roll to teach my friend some basic Jiu Jitsu moves. The higher belts offered me an intense roll and were willing to point out some tips and tricks that would help my game.

I spent a few weeks in Austin and was lucky enough to train with these guys. Its hard to capture in words how unique and special this community is. The training is top notch, with a serious and focused attitude on technique and fundamentals. The community is stellar, the guys and gals were super kind to an out of towner such as myself. Lastly, these peeps go hard. The rolling at the end of classes is done at 120%, which I personally dig. I absolutely loved the training, community, and vibe of Paragon BJJ. If I lived in Austin I wouldnt consider going anywhere else.

Ive been visiting Paragon Austin over the years whenever traveling down there from Dallas and without fail its been nothing but good vibes and rolls here. Theres a strong sense of camaraderie here, and judging from the open mats Ive attended theyre respected as numerous people from different schools were in attendance. Dont hesitate to drop by, Robert Dembeck (the owner) and Jose Portillo (one of the main instructors) are stand up guys and it reflects in the school.

My daughters and I are all enrolled in Jiu-jitsu at this Academy. We love it and have made so many friends in just three short months of membership. I feel the instructors are as good as it gets. Each one brings a unique and finely honed skill set to their lessons. I would definitely recommend it to people of any level. Its great for getting in shape and learning to defend yourself. Plus, theres one free week when you start so you get to try it out and see if its something you want to do.

While visiting Austin for a conference we wanted to get some jiu jitsu training in and decided to try out Paragon because some of our training partners back home had trained with one of Paragons instructors. When walking into the gym the owner was immediately very welcoming and showed us around when we told him we were visiting and were looking to get some training in. The other students were also very nice so we felt right at home. The training itself was very good with high quality instruction. Rolling with the other students was also great! Hard work but everyone is very respectful, no egos and clearly the idea is that everyone is there to help each other get better. Right after class the mats were cleaned, so you know every time you come in you get to work out on clean mats. We couldnt get enough and came back 3 days in a row. Thats how much we liked the place.
