Professor Marcos, Sydney, and the entire Brazil 021 team have been such a blessing to our family. My son (7yrs old) started here with zero experience and a bit of a discipline issue, and in less than a year Marcos has got him absolutely LOVING jiujitsu, listening, and being a model student in class. Marcos is fantastic with the kids and Sydney is so accommodating with families who have multiple kids and are trying to coordinate getting everyone to various places. This is a safe and fun environment that is well worth your money. They love and nurture your children and actually teach them the skills of the sport. They kids have fun and learn valuable life skills as well. Parents, sign your kids up! You won’t be disappointed.

I give this a 5 star review because even though, I am not on the team, I went to try out and I love this place. The head instructor was very polite, and disciplined. The teen instructor was also very polite and disciplined and the whole team was very kind and good at their sport.

Amazing academy! Professor Marcos is the real deal. He lives the Jiu Jitsu on and off the mats. You’ll get nothing but his best every single day. Been coming here for about 9 months and I can really say this place has change the way I understand how, what my body can move and do . As a petite woman, it is always good to know a little about self defense or in the event of unwelcome confrontation. Prof Marcos takes time to explain when I have question and is very respectful. I feel the same way with people I train with at the mat as well. During this time of pandemic, this academy is taking every safety precautions before, during and after the class. Sydney, the office manager will take your body temperature, sanitize your hands, then she assigns you to a marked 6ft x 6ft personal square with 6ft apart from another personal square. You will train by yourself in the square. After the session, you will leave the mat one person at a time for proper social distancing and they sanitize your hands again. They sanitize the mat after each session.They let you try it for free for a week before making your decision. I highly recommend this BJJ!

My son has been taking classes at Brazil 021 for 18 months now and has really learned a lot and enjoyed it. Professor Marcos and Coach Derry and Coach Danny have been great with him. Professor Marcos really makes an effort to not only train the students but teach them discipline, perseverance, and hard work. Sydney has been great to work with and is always informative and addresses any questions we have with a positive attitude. I like that though the classes have age recommendations, they try to be flexible and accommodating to busy schedules. I’ve had a very positive experience and would highly recommend this place!

I cannot speak highly enough about this academy! The staff are so compassionate and this is not even the beginning. I searched, interviewed and toured several other academies that did not impress me, although many with high reviews! Ive been training here for just under two months now and I absolutely love it. (So much so that I go almost every day!) The community of people is incredible. Everyone is so welcoming and encouraging. I have a chronically bad knee but everyone I train with is understanding of this and we practice and roll accordingly. Im never neglected because Im an injured beginner white belt, Professor Marcos and the other coaches work hard to ensure that everyone that trains here gets to practice.

Brazil-021 is a special place, as is for so many others who I train with and have gotten to know. The staff and instructors are approachable and communicate well. I’ve been to many gyms, but have never been to one that cares about the growth and well-being of their students and the community and family they create as much as I have felt here. As a physical therapist, I see the safety and care taken in classes across all levels and ages, and know that there is intelligent consideration around all of this. There is an integrity and passion carried by the instructors that is passed on to their students. It is a joy to train here and grow with everyone.

Great place and atmosphere for self defense and BJJ. Prof. Marcos and Prof. Derry have technical teaching styles that provide a great base for any BJJ level. The 5:30 am classes at the downtown facility, although really early, is the best way to start the day for anyone having long work hours during the day! I would encourage anyone to try the free trial week before deciding to opt for the best schedule that works for you.

I have been training at Brazil-021 for the past 2 years and I honestly dont think there is a better school around. When i first started I was 36 years old with a Dad Bod looking to get into shape and learn a martial art. Since that time i have been continually impressed with the instruction, structure, and community that has been a part of my training. Professor Marcos is from Brazil, has over 20 yrs experience, and has a great training curriculum for all his students. I dont think there is any Academy better to learn BJJ. An additional benefit to training here is the great people I have met and the community that i have gotten to be a part of. There is a strong team atmosphere and everyone is there to help their training partners improve.The gym is very clean. It has family and kid classes that are great. Fantastic gym. I train in Portland and was here for just a few days. They were super generous with getting me into classes and having me train with all their upper belts to really catch their style. Ive been doing martial arts since I was a kid and once again I am humbled by the experience. Professors Marcos and Emere are fantastic instructors. I heard of Brazil-021 from a friend who highly recommended it for my kids. I went there that day and was pleasantly surprised to find a warm, kind, and inviting atmosphere. The parents I met were also very pleasant and encouraging. With all that said, the key to locking me into Brazil-021 that day was watching the kids train. They were having fun while actually learning valid techniques. Since then my family has joined and we are all learning and having fun. And now Im the one tell his friends to take their kids (and themselves) to Brazil-021.

I have been training at Brazil-021 for the past 8 months and I would just like to say that this gym is amazing. The Coaches are always so friendly and willing to help you out with whatever it is you need. You’re not treated as just another student at this gym but treated as an individual. I have seen this gym grow tremendously throughtout these past 8 months and the environment is still kept so welcoming and friendly. The classes are high quality and very detailed. I have never left the class without learning something new every single time. These past few months have helped me get into the best shape I’ve ever been in and I couldn’t be more greatful for these kind people. Whats a great place! I travel a lot and always try and train at different schools. When I called the school the staff was super friendly and provided the info I request. When I walked in the staff remember my name from the call which really impressed me. The school is every well designed and very organized and super clean. Everyone came up to me and greeted me and showed me great respect at the school. I felt like I was training at home and felt like I was part of the family. Professor Marcos is very nice and I really enjoy his class and also his Philosophy of jujitsu and how he shares that with his students. You can see and feel his passion when he teaches his class. Training at Brazil-021 has been an awesome experience. The staff are incredible and seem to really value their students. The Muay Thai program is comprehensive and diverse. Coach Franco is well-educated and he brings this well-informed influence to every class. I dont think youll find another place that provides as much individual and knowledge-based guidance as Brazil-021. While I cant speak personally to the Jiu-Jitsu program, I can say that the instructors are approachable and invested in the all of the members here- this gym is small family feel with big-time accolades at its back

Almost a year later, and the reviews here really dont do justice to how great this school is. The area is clean and well maintained, with a focus on safety. I started since April. I will definitely recommend this place, if you wanna learn BJJ with decent people. I was little worried at first, because I had no clue about this. After the first class, I dont. Even if you dont know a thing like me, everyone will help you to learn step by step. And most importantly, there is a huge mat you can roll :)

Brazil-021 has been one of the greatest things that has happen to my son. I decide to try out jiu jitsu for for him first and shortly after starting jiu jitsu he joined Muay Thai. We had been having trouble at school so I decided that having some sort of disciple would help him out. And it definitely has helped he is always so excited to go train that he sees it as a reward. The 30 or 40 students I have met and trained with are each hungry to improve themselves, and willing to help one another improve. I feel I come away from each hour with marked improvement.

In 1998, Professor Marcos had 18 years old and began to teach classes for my children and their friends where we lived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I can say that it was a very pleasant experience for them and also for us parents who followed the classes attentively since it was really gratifying to watch them learn jiu-jitsu fundamentals as well as growing as human beings guided by Marcos. Professor Marcos and the team are great. I tried a few different gyms and never really stuck with jiu-jitsu for more than a couple weeks but the instruction here was great for a beginner. Ive been coming here 3-4 times a week for about 5 months now and its part of my normal routine now. Professor Marcos, the instructors, and all the higher belts are very helpful and encouraging.

My husband and I were initially looking for an outlet for our 4yr old son to learn discipline, teamwork, and fitness. During the month that our son has been attending class, his demeanor has changed noticeably. He has a confidence and independence, and asks every day if he can go to class to maintain his fitness and tells us that he promises not to use his jiu-jitsu to hurt anyone.I cannot thank the family at Brazil-021 enough for all they have done....and it is a family. I really cant say enough good things about my experience so far with Brazil 021, head instructor Marcos, and instructors Emre and Derry. This is truly a family school. The instructor/Professor welcomes all! He is one of the most understanding and patient instructors I have ever met. My son (8yo) has been training at Brazil-021 for the past 6 months. Prior to joining here I had looked at many other Jiu-Jitsu schools in the area. I was impressed with the level of instruction and individual attention that they provide to each child. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. My son looks forward to training twice a week and is constantly asking me to take him. Additionally, there is a family class on Saturday where parents are invited to train with their children. Family class is an amazing time to train with my son and he talks about it for the entire week. In my younger days, I trained in multiple martial arts including Jiu-jitsu. I have attended a few adult classes (work schedule permitting) and find the level of instruction to be excellent. The classes are challenging but approachable. I cant wait to be able to attend more regularly.

Had a great time. My son really enjoyed it so much. Marcos really work with you and explain everything. In the process of signing my son up, I even signed up myself as well.

Our kids started to train at Brazil021 Houston seven month ago, as soon as the turned 4. We love all the instructors, who are doing wonderful job, by been very professional and patient with each child. We are looking forward to be part of Brazilian 021 family for a long time.

If you have ever been curious of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, I would advise you to take the plunge and try the one week trial Brazil-021 Houston offers. I have never done any time of martial arts in the past and was a little worried about starting it. I am so glad I joined this great academy. From the moment I stepped into the facility, I felt welcomed. The people there go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. The kicker is during my week trial period, I did not even get to meet Professor Marcos. The classes were taught by other highly qualified members. They were patient, thoughtful, and informative without taking things too seriously. I believe this is a huge reflection of Professor Marcos values and how it trickles down to his students. Whether you eventually compete or not, there is no pressure to if you are not interested. Main thing that stood out for me is Professor Marcos is not obsessed with your competition results. He cares if you learn something from it win or lose. He does not just make you strive to become a better practitioner of BJJ but also a better person.

While on business a friend and I wanted to get some mat time so we went on a search for some schools near Rice University. I came across Brazil-021 and decided to give it a try. Professor Marcos is definitely legit in both his skill level and teaching methods. Furthermore his students are definitely tough on the mats. If youre a seasoned jiu jitsu practitioner I highly recommend stopping by for some mat time. You wont regret it.

I have been to several dojos searching for the right place for my three young boys. I found the perfect fit in Brazi 021. First of all, Professor Marcos is the real deal! He practices what he preaches, lives by integrity, and deeply cares about each one of his students. From the moment we walked in he has treated us like family and my boys love him. He went to great lengths to help my youngest who was struggling with the transition. Instead of viewing my child as a distraction, he took time out of class to give him one on one attention and instruction for several weeks until he felt comfortable with the entire group . With Professor Marcos in charge, it is no wonder that the entire staff and facility are top notch! Every single staff member is dedicated, caring, professional, and fully invested in the training of others. I immediately felt at ease and a sense of trust at Brazi 021. Not to mention the facility is bright and immaculate. Brazi 021 blows the other dark and dingy dojos out of the water. I truly cannot speak highly enough of Brazi 021. We will be students there for years to come and we will be referring all of our friends. Anyone who gives the facility and instructors less than five stars is in an alternate universe! Feels like a family, but remember, its still a business. All sweet talk until theres a disagreement and then, well, sorry, business and business and thats whats in the contract. So, be careful with the contract and terms of the contract. I presume many other places are the same but dont expect any compassion or service if there are any life changes for you, because, if its in the contract, youre SOL.As for their response, a bunch more of their chitty-chitty-chit-chat. Youll learn more martial arts from Kung Fu Panda! Hahahaha!

Ive been a team sport kind of person for most of my life so I wasnt really sure if I would even like Brazilian jiu-jitsu. But I tried it on a whim (yay new years resolutions!) and its brought so much positive change to my life; I cant recommend this academy enough. I’ve been training at Brazil-021 under Professor Marcos for over three years(and counting). The academy has grown tremendously, but the standards have not been compromised. Professor Marcos and the instructors know each individual’s strengths and weaknesses and use that knowledge to help us grow and improve. I always walk away from each class better at BJJ than I was at the beginning. There is absolutely no other place I’d rather train than at Brazil021.

My 12 year old son Alexander loves this sport. I tried to enroll him in other self defense sports but he is not an aggressive type and has no desire to kick and punch etc.After watching a few videos of Brazilian jiu jitsu he immediately wanted to do it.While this sport is totally different from karate kungfu and various other marshal art forms it is highly effective and basically unbeatable in my opinion.Once on the ground which happens in almost all fights the opponent stands zero chance against a person trained in this sport.Marcus is a great coach patient and very gentle with the kids. One cant really wish for a better more versatile teacher. He is also from Brazil where this sport is originated from and to me that is very important.This is an excellent school and the facility is also very attractive.I would strongly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn a very effective form of self defense.

Jiu Jitsu at Brazil-021 has been a journey for me. I have been at the academy for a year and some change. About six months ago, I decided I wanted to do jiu-jitsu and began looking around for places. Brazil-021 was the first school I tried and after the 5:30 am class with Emre, who is an exceptional black belt instructor, I knew I didnt need to look any further. Professor Marcos, the head instructor, has built an impressive academy here in Houston. The technical instruction is extremely thorough and it is very easy to ask questions. We are taught to train hard but to always train safely. Additionally, the mats are immaculate as they are cleaned after every class.I think the most remarkable feature of this academy is the culture that Marcos has built which is one of respect, discipline, and character. Teaching Brazilian jiu-jitsu techniques is one thing, but it takes a special person to seamlessly incorporate the lessons you learn on the mats in your daily life. And that extends to Emre and Danny as well. I have been with the school for a little over a year and I can attest that this is a fantastic place. The people are amazing and the professor is very caring about his students. Safety is always a top priority which is especially important when the students include young kids and older professionals (like myself, who may not be as invincible as those in their teens and who need to go to work the next day).The club itself has a very friendly atmosphere. As a new student it can be quite intimidating to be the new guy on the mat who has absolutely no clue what to do. The higher belts took the effort to go out of their way to welcome me which was admirable and encouraging.This friendly atmosphere reflects Prof. Cerqueiras personality. The easy going nature of the Professor makes going to class like hanging out with friends.If you are looking for a place to learn Brazilian Jiu jitsu, I would strongly suggest dropping by and trying a class here! I checked out 4 dojos in the area looking for a jiu jitsu school for my children 5 and 7 years old. To my children and me, Brazil-021 was the clear choice. Almost immediately my children were comfortable with Professor Marcos, Derry and the whole team. The facility is very clean and well-kept, the prices are reasonable and the feedback from the parents I spoke with was overwhelmingly positive.Weve been there now for about 3 months and we couldnt be happier with our decision. Professor Marcos and his team are engaging and effective, firm yet approachable and so patient with the children who are really learning and improving.I have just started the adult classes for a couple weeks so I cant say too much about them yet, except that as a total beginner I feel very welcome and that there has been an effort to minimize unnecessary risks of injury.

Decided to join Brazil 21 because I wanted to learn more about the art that is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Being in my 40s, slightly overweight, and been slacking in my exercising, I was hesitant to say the least. However, that all went away when I met Professor Marcos. My son began training under Professor Marcos at age 5.Even after training Karate for 9 months at age 4, he was still being bullied relentlessly in the after hours program at his school, by a 1st grader much bigger than he.After yet another meeting with the after school program coordinator, explaining to me that he was yet again punched and put down by this particular kid, I asked him point blank out of frustration... Son, why dont you defend yourself, youve been taking Karate for almost a year now?... His reply to me was simply Dad... Im scared. That hurt my heart. It was then I knew I had to find something different for him.After researching and visiting several well known Jiu Jitsu Academies in the heights area. I must say, I was not impressed... That is, until I stepped into Breakaway Speed and met Professor Marcos.Professor Marcos took the time out of his class to address ALL of my concerns. He explained to me why my sons current training failed to prepare him for the relentless bullying he experienced, with great authority. He exhibited a very warm and caring personality & amazingly, he was able to break the ice with my very shy son within minutes. I couldnt believe it... He even allowed my nephew visiting from out of town to join in on the class for a full week without any financial commitment.As the months flew by, I began to notice a real change in my sons low self confidence, self esteem and level of shyness. Within 6 months he was competent enough to handle himself in school, and TO THIS DAY, has not had a single issue with another kid bullying him. He has not once used what he knows in a negative capacity. Yet he has the confidence and calmness of spirit, to look the other kids directly in the eye and almost effortlessly diffuse negative situations, quite often to the outright frustration of his aggressors. Ive witnessed it.In fact, while watching him roll (the BJJ equivalent to sparring) one day in class, I was so impressed with his progression, that I decided to go on and join the class myself, so that I too could learn and grow in this amazing discipline, alongside my son.That was 2009. We both still train today, & love this academy as much as ever.I am proud to say that over this time, Professor Marcos has continued to impress me with his common sense solutions, and genuine passion for what it is he does. He has become much more than a Professor to us, he has become a dear friend.I recommend Professor Marcos to every parent worried about how their little ones will fare in world. First rate Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school in Houston. I am not a member at Brazil-021, as I live in Dallas. However, I train here as often as I can. The instructor, Marcos, is one of the best; whether you are new to Jiu Jitsu or been training for years. In what can be an intimidating martial art, the atmosphere here is always welcoming and friendly. The facility is well maintained and always clean. One of my favorite places to train away from home.

My 3 year old son (almost 4) has been attending Brazil-021 for over a month and he has been going to class three times a week. My son looks forward to going and he is learning all about team work, discipline, respect, as well as getting a good work out and of course the art of Jiu-jitsu/ self-defense. He is proud of what he learning and after class he likes to teach his dad the new moves he has learned that day - it is a bonding experience between father and son as well.Professor Marcos is a very kind, caring and thoughtful teacher and all of the staff are so good with the kids! The classes range in age from 4-12 and some days there are nineteen kids in a class and other days there are six or seven - it varies. When the class is large they have more than one teacher in the class and they even separate the younger kids from the older kids at times so that it is age appropriate and safe for everyone. Also, at other times the older kids are paired with the younger ones and the older kids get to teach/help the little ones learn Jiu-jitsu.Honestly as a mom, I look forward to going to the classes and watching. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming - Brazil-021 is a supportive community and even when we were new we felt embraced by this community.
