LVA is the largest and one of the oldest & successful charter schools in the Lehigh Valley region. Charter schools stand out compared to public schools because they exist to meet the needs of their specific communities -- the Lehigh Valley was looking for a school that could offer a unique K-12 curriculum that actually prepared students for their future and the global environment -- so LVA was born.Common questions: Is there a tuition cost? No, LVA is a free and independent public charter school that serves students in 16+ school districts. Amazing diversity! What does International Baccalaureate curriculum even mean?Lots of things, honestly. While following PA Core Standards, LVA also offers SO much more. The curriculum and way of teaching is part of an international organization that believes in providing the highest possible quality of education to ALL students. Global concepts, critical thinking, multilingual (Chinese, French, and Spanish are offered K-12). It can be a really intense program at the high school level, and your children could be graduating with college credits under their belt. What about the real school experience?First of all, charter schools are real schools. They are not meant to be copies of your local public schools. They have unique, concentrated programs. Aside from being academically rigorous, LVA offers a variety of student led extra-curricular activities, clubs, music and band classes, club sports, and as of 2021 is a PIAA school for cross country. So if you are looking for student enrichment, LVA absolutely offers it.I hear a lot of mixed reviews about LVA.Take everything you hear with a grain of salt. Do you research, talk to friends and family. Reach out to admissions -- the staff at LVA is dedicated to LVAs mission and vision and would love to talk to you. LVA knows that they are not a perfect fit for every family, and thats okay. What they care about is that you have CHOICE in your childs education.LVA is constantly adapting, growing, and looking to improve.-- LVA Alumni 11

As parents, we have been impressed with LVAs curriculum. Our child has been attending over 4 years and we have been very pleased. Some may find LVA demanding with homework however, it helps to prepare students for higher education. LVA did exceptional during the pandemic with their 100% online learning.

As a high schooler at LVA, I think that the school overall has an amazing learning environment. Most of the teachers not only focus on teaching us, but focus on having a good teacher-student relationship. The school teaches at a high level of education and really encourages us to do the best we can. Some things may be unorganized and upsetting from a students point of view, but overall LVA is a great school. Also, a lot of these bad reviews for LVA were from years ago and the school has really improved since then.

You know what I notice from all these reviews?Pretty much all of the 1 star reviews are from posters who have only 1 review under their name.Know what that means, kids?Bots. Some sad person loosed a silly bot on this review board.Well, take it from me. Ive got a lot of reviews under my belt.I think the school is amazing. I think that there are plenty of public schools that will pass your kid along and your kid will think that its awesome to never try.I think that if you want to learn 2 languages, collaborate with smart people on in-depth research projects, learn advanced subjects and step foot on a college campus with many college credits already earned and ready for a sophomore level or higher, then get in line. The wait list is insane for a reason.I invite parents to make an attempt and if youre lucky, your kid will get a chance to attend.

All 3 of my children go to this school together and they are all different ages K, 3rd, and 10th grade. If they went to public school I would be dropping all 3 of them off at different schools. Not only that but they really care about their students and do anything and everything to help them succeed. I couldnt go on an on but youll just have to see for yourself.

First thing first, when reading reviews for any place or product, please be aware of “who” and “what type” of person the review is coming from!!!My child attends this school , and HANDS DOWN, I am beyond pleased as a parent ! I have another child who is FIVE years older, that attends a completely separate school and is not learning or performing at the SAME LEVEL as his younger sibling. So academic wise, I am completely satisfied with this school’s curriculum and what they teach our children.Another thing , a TEACHER is NOT your child’s parent. A TEACHER is not RESPONSIBLE of stopping their entire class for ONE child’s behavior. Can parents PLEASE start taking accountability of their OWN children and the way THEY raised their child BEFORE school came into the picture ?! How fair is it for a teacher to stop 20+ other children from learning to tend to your child because YOU as their parent didn’t PREPARE THEM for that moment?! YES there is a such thing as learning disabilities, but can we PLEASE stop throwing that term around so loosely because there are children who truly NEED the help rather then be RAISED over. Thank you.Another thing, before YOUR child attends any school, is it NOT YOUR job as a parent to research which school you choose your child to attend? I mean I did. Based off my research , I KNEW this school was “smaller”. I KNEW this school was in a TEMPORARY location ( shout out to the parent complaining about the trailers ). I refused to let those minor things ever come between my child and their EDUCATION ! Everything I looked up and what I wanted for my child as a parent, it aligned up completely.I am soooo so happy with my child’s teachers. I am thrilled my child comes home everyday excited to tell me about their day and teach me what they learned. And I am at an awe everyday over my child’s excitement and their love for learning, school, their friends, their teachers... LVA we thank you for being nothing less than amazing for our child! ❤️

I really enjoy LVA. The extended school program has provided more opportunities than I can count on my fingers and toes. The staff is caring, experienced and dedicated to their students. I work with K-6, their good behavior and inquisitiveness is reflective of the caring individuals in their lives. Staff is more than willing to help anyone with a question.

This school is incredible. I have had the pleasure of substitute teaching here, and the teachers are helpful, competent, and personable! I absolutely love when I get to work here! Their IB curriculum also greatly prepares students for college. In their high school years, students definitely study college level material. I could not be more pleased with this school!

This school is a shining example of why charter schools are worthless. The best thing I ever did for my kids was to pull them out of this terrible school and move them into public school. Any school dumb enough to say something like We dont need to offer your gifted daughter any enrichment, gifted is built into our curriculum is not worth bothering with. Some of the teachers seemed to care, but the administrative staff in the elementary school were nothing but problems for both of my kids.

Y husband and I did a ton of research before ultimately closing LVA for our daughter. I have to honestly say we made the best decision! Our daughter is thriving both academically and socially. She’s also building the skills needed to work as a team, which we feel is so crucial to everyday life! We chose LVA for numerous reasons, one being they are an IB program school, they teach in a way that challenges the student to ask more questions and that to us was the moment we knew it was the school for her. We live in a world where you are taught to do what you’re told, just listen, don’t ask questions. LVA is quite opposite, they encourage the students to ask, to investigate, to explore. We are extremely happy with the entire staff as well. They are friendly, hands on, enthusiastic and you can tell they are happy to be working there! The fact it is K-12 was a huge plus for us as well...no changing schools 2-3 times. It’s a seamless transition from grade to grade. I cannot say enough good things about LVA! Also, as a parent I feel my voice is heard which is very important to us! LVA is truly wonderful!

I went to this school from the 4th to the 9th grade and it was probably the worst experience of my life. The teachers didnt really care if you were behind or didnt understand the topics. They were pretty much a figure it out yourself school and the students were no better. The students were relentless in bullying as I was a victim of it myself. Nothing was ever done to fix it and it was always let off. I hated this school so much and im glad I left. That was the best decision ever.

Very surprised by the bad reviews. Come earlier if you are getting cut off. It runs like clock work. My daughter is thriving here . LVA strives to make sure your child is on track and taught to their abilities and learning style. It is very challenging but I view that as a positive thing.

My mom forced me to go to this school, but it still ended up being much worse than I expected. In their IB program, I end up occasionally learning something regular schools taught a year earlier. I believe that this school is not that great of a school. They start to write you up for reasons like your shirt is untucked. They come up with any way to suspend you if you did wrong like if you flick someones neck. They have teachers that do not teach well and they are an overall joke on the inside of the school a lot of people who support only women and they dont like racism when a quote on quote white person is being racist. That is why this school is overall just a trashy school.

Review №30

First of all this school sucks and makes no sense. The teachers and staff there don’t give a damn about you at all and could care less about what happen to you. Next they can suspend or expell you without any proof whatsoever and you can’t question it at all. You can call the school and they don’t call back. Also the ceo Mauser crams the school full of kids to make the most money and now they have trailers for classroom in the parking lot. Also they underpay teachers so that they leave after a week of school has gone by and you are left with having substitutes for the rest of the year I can not understand how you can get an education that way. And don’t think your child is safe there if any thing happens you can open up every classroom door with a credit card and the walls are paper thin. Lastly they don’t teach you anything about what happens in the real world and don’t prepare you for life. If you think about sending your child here think again public schools are much better.

This school is great for elementary and younger kids but out of the many years I’ve been here, it has taken a turn downhill. I had 2 good teachers. They were able to educate me well and control their class. Some of the other teachers had no idea what they were doing and one year, my teacher just started crying because the class was horrible and she couldn’t control the maniacs. Another teacher started shouting “you’re not special! You’re not important! No one cares about you!” To the entire class. The lunch they serve is not fit for child consumption and they serve expired milk. Next, out of 10, I would rate the education a 5. They had to change the entire math system because so many students scored below proficient on the PSSA’s. In my opinion, the new math system is making math grades even lower. And the math system is completely reviewing things like fractions and decimals which you learn in 2nd/3rd grade. But instead of doing keepnchange flip for dividing fractions, you have to draw a rectangle and draw circles in it. They are trying to make you think about it in a different way ( or an overly complicated way in my opinion.)It’s too confusing and not able to be easily understood. Another reason is that they are always doing jaguar jaunts and stuff to raise money for better technology which costs thousands of money, yet they can’t afford to fix a broken desk or chair. I’m extremely excited to leave this piece of trash they call a school for middle school and go somewhere with better teachers and education. And they are extremely strict about the dress code. For example, if you don’t tuck in your shirt it’s a write up on Jupiter. Or if you If you are thinking about bringing your child here, then it’s best to have them go for elementary school and take them out for middle school.

This school is terrible and i was a student there and hated it if anything i dont recommend it dont trust people saying its great middle school is a horror story and students may say it a great school its because the student dont do any work there education is terrible. The security guy was on the phone and there was two staff in the cafeteria. I went to a school called south mountain and is a little geto and doesnt make as much money but how does LVA which has way more money doesnt use it. South mountain was so much fun and LVA is so boring theres only a couple nice stuff there because they can attract more parents to waste there money on trash theres litteral kids throwing food every where and they took 5 min untill they did something. Parents do not waste your time here you are hearing this from a student trust me if you want your kids to get a education do not take him here. Thank you for listening!

I am as well shocked to see those one star reviews, however I can speak from experience. My first daughter graduated with honors from LVA and all I can say is Thank You LVA teachers! It wasn’t easy because two of my children didn’t start in LVA and they had To adapt to a new school, new rules and academic level but throughout all that there was support. I had my 2 younger daughters start in LVA, it can be challenging at times because the academic level is great and with that comes a whole lot of homework and projects. But this is the education I want and I choose to have for my children, I know and I heard many kids complaint about how strict this school is and that they don’t like many things all I can say is hang in there it is all worth it. At the end of the day it works both ways, if you are respectful and do what you need to do in school it will be just fine.

I use to go to this school then I switch to basd at northeast, and I have to say it’s much better here. Some of the teacher were not nice or biased agensit some students. And they write you up for nothing and when you say what happens now one believes you even tho there were eye witnesses, and the dress code was rediutios, write for not have your shirt tucked in or your shoes are not the right shade of color. Going to basd was great for me and the work is easier for a child and the homework is do able. I dont recremend going here. They only focus on the date students and some slower students are some what left behind. All from experience. That also pick on impaticalar students for if they say talk in a room of kid screaming and then you get yelled at. To be fair some teacher were great.

I taught at this school briefly and, I’ll be honest, it’s an absolute mess. I was given no curriculum to teach the students. When I asked for curriculum at the beginning of the school year, I was told “just ask the kids what they learned last year.” How is that effective when you are attempting to successfully teach IB curriculum? The class sizes are ridiculous. I had one class of 32 and another class of 7 (Same subject, different days). It’s impossible to teach those two very different size classes the same way through block scheduling. The school is very misleading. It markets itself as an IB school, but the students can choose to go for the IB diploma or otherwise get a regular high school diploma. So in a class of 30 I had only 2 kids taking the IB exam. How is it fair to those two kids if I have to teach the class at a slower pace for the other 28? I really recommend that you send your children elsewhere. At a public school they can always take AP and Honors classes that are much more structured and challenging for them. There’s a lot of shady, sneaky favoritism that goes on in the administration both directed at students and other teachers. It was disgusting to me the way that the administration would talk about some of the kids in front of the teachers - the student’s family, their hygiene, their disability, etc. Absolutely unprofessional. Your kids will have much better opportunities in the public school system.

I went to lehigh valley academy from kindergarten to 8th grade and i had some great teachers and a lot of the others were awful i remember atleast 3-4 teachers getting fired while i was there. The buildings themselves are basically a joke. i mean really office buildings??? Another thing i disliked as a student were the pointless uniforms that literally dont teach kids anything. Just a gimmick to have the students parents pay over 100$ per uniform or having buy mad polos. When i went to freedom high school i realised what the real world is about. So yeah basically dont send your kids here definitly not worth it. But i will say i met a bunch of great friends at lva over the 8 years i was there so it wasnt all bad.
