The majority of professors are mean and pretentious. They try to force their values on you while maintaining a cut throat and competitive atmosphere, especially in the music department. Its a shame because there are some genuinely nice teachers but there needs to be some major changes in the hiring process as my teachers were far from professional.

Honestly, this school is amazing.I am a freshman and I’m currently majoring in Production Arts. This school is a fun, innovative, and professional place, I highly recommend this school for any creative and artistic people. Everyone here is very friendly, especially the mandarin teacher. They even let you choose your preferred pronouns and preferred name! You can be yourself in this place and not get judged. I’ve made a lot of wonderful friends along the way in learning how to enhance my artistic abilities. We absolutely love new faces so you should definitely come audition and join us!

My vocalist is in her third year. The staff and faculty are thoughtful, encouraging, and work with the students for their successes. The education is superior and this year the school was awarded blue ribbon status. They add new programs of interest and encourage creativity and responsibility. My daughter has unique learning challenges and the schools ability to work with us to accommodate those needs has been stellar.

It is hard for students to get in this school. I saw students are very serious about learning and want to achieve their goals. Students are learning high level of Math, English, Science, etc at this school and many of them are accepted by good colleges and Universities. Please note, students do have excellent manners and respects to educators including sub teachers.

Excellent learning environment! My daughter attends. She says every day how happy she is there. She feels like she is surrounded by kids who welcome her and accept her. The academics are challenging, but there is tremendous support from the teachers and staff. It has been an incredibly positive experience.

We choose this school knowing it would be better than the highschool in our area but never thought it would be so life changing. The teachers have a passion and the school has the tools to give every advantage a young artist needs. My son, for the last two years hes been there, hasnt wanted to miss a day as well which is amazing. ^_^

I understand that younger people are suppose to respect adult and anybody older but that doesn’t mean they can disrespect the younger people. There should be an equal respect. Many teachers do this on a daily, but only the students get in trouble if they talk back ? It makes no sense. It’s natural for some one to talk back , it’s their emotion, it doesn’t mean their disrespectful. Can teachers please think bout this before they disrespect kids on a daily just because their older. Their stares , looks , tone , and when they talk . Their just showing a bad example.

I can’t rave enough about this school - the environment is incredible, the arts training is unparalleled in Eastern PA, and the academics are more than adequate with the phenomenal faculty. Those who discredit the academics didn’t take advantage of the opportunities; l took every AP class available to me and formed great relationships with my teachers. I received a full scholarship from the Navy to study engineering at Pitt and commission as a Navy Officer, for which l felt beyond prepared thanks to this amazing school. I think about the positive impact it had on my life daily. The dance department especially has always been consistently superb. I’d give anything to experience it again!

I am feeling sad today ... as you see on the bottom, my daughter Juliana is an amazing artist especially for her age so she decided to apply for the Arts school, after she gave such amazing audition, we just received a letter that she was not accepted because they had better candidates. So I am saying to myself after seeing the work on audition day from the other 10 that were there don’t even come close to the work Juliana demonstrated. It’s a shame that some schools still concentrate on the person color of skin and also any type of in house connection instead of the talent and grades .. she is also a Honor Roll student as well. Very sad 😞

Where to start...So on my first day of school, I was given a rose, which was symbolism to me that the staff cared about their students and looked at an optimistic future for the lot of us. In my opinion, it was a very polite gesture. It was one way to introduce you to the school to give you a good impression. There are a bunch of clubs for one to take part in and a few other activities, and that is acknowledged if you are an incoming student. Some of these clubs are worth joining if you want a positive mark on your permanent record. For you to graduate the school, not only must you accomplish your academics, but you must complete hours as well in a job that does not pay. For instance, entering the school as a freshman, you must complete at least 60 hours worth of work. Entering as a sophomore results in a standard of 48 hours. These are to be recorded on a sheet and approved by the person that approved of this opportunity. For whatever major you try for in the range of arts, be it visual arts, vocals, instrumentals, dancing, and even ice skating, you take these classes about everyday of the school year, essentially providing the steps to your future career so you could expand on it later on in life. For example, in the visual art department, they teach you how to utilize oil, draw figures, and a plethora of other miscellaneous activities, though you do not necessarily have to take part in this all in the future. You could get a career in animation or do impressionist art. It really sets the basis for a future career, as mentioned. Now the academics is where I have to deduct a few stars and give it an okay rating. The thing is that you alternate in academics every other day based on a four day cycle. So one day, you have US history, math, and western studies, and another day, you have English, biology, and Spanish. You have your major class everyday for at least three consecutive hours, depending on what that major is. Study hall is sometimes takes place of the academics.I personally think this is not a really effective or intuitive system. Having a class every other day would hinder your progress a little and provide less time per marking period to absorb the knowledge provided. Some teachers try to open a window of opportunities and give as much work as possible to buffer your grades out while some teachers do not offer as much work, somewhat putting your grade at risk. An example would be math class, where some lessons are understandably difficult to adapt to initially. The teacher I had was new to the school, and he does not go far in depth with the lessons and half expects us to teach ourselves, not bothering to farther in depth with the lesson. This is a problem as not everybody will understand the lesson themselves and will force themselves to look for lessons online. I have personally experienced someone give up on a short quadratics test because many equations became far too difficult to understand midway through solving them, parts that the teacher did not elaborate on completely. Generally speaking, some courses are not well paced and you might not learn too much out of them sometimes. In essence, the main focus of this school is to take your talent to another level and give you a reason to put it to use in the future. The fault is where the academics take place.

I had the privilege of watching this school production of Steel Magnolias. These students are incredibly talented, and they must have a wonderful support system to help them realize their giftedness!! :)
