BHS offered a lot of varied learning opportunities both in the classroom and through extra-curricular activities. I had some great teachers who I credit for setting me up for success academically after high school and into my career.

My daughter graduated from here. They offer opportunities to excel and work towards earning college Advanced Placement credit. They also have a great choral, band and orchestra program as well as opportunities in a big variety of sports. My only concern was regarding her reports of excessive student PDA in the hallways and stairwells. Wrong time and place in my mind.

This school is horrible! As far as academics are concerned, theres some very bright students but unfortunately, this school as a whole, scores below State and National standards. Its overrun by gang members, drugs, theft and other crimes. Had I known about University High School, I wouldve sent my child there. The main problem in this school is their Principal - he shouldnt be a Principal. He certainly lacks the leadership skills that are necessary to lead a high school of children! Not only does he present false professionalism, but his administrative position at this school is damaging to the children/students who attend the school each year. He takes no ownership or responsibility in his inept attempt at being Principal. My conclusion is that somebody, somewhere, probably owed/owes him a favor; otherwise he wouldnt be in his position. The rapport the Principal has with students is bad because he doesnt care about them and he shows it. When students try to discuss important issues that affect the culture of the school and the success of the students attending this school, the Principal ignores them and often times has tried to silence students from voicing their opinion. He isnt a Principal. Hes an ignorant an incompetent man who sits in his office and walks around chatting but DOES NOT LEAD nor does he care about the students.Other administrative staff, Assistant Principals and troublesome kids like gang members, ultimately run the school. Nevermind that there is a police officer at the school, he does nothing but sit in his chair and chat with students, ignoring the crime that goes on within the school. At important informational assemblies with students and sometimes parents, his Principal duties and leadership skills consist of introducing himself and announcing to the students (and parents) that an Assistant Principal or other Administrative Staff member has something to say - a loathsome example of INCOMPETENCY on display, indeed. My advice as a Parent, enroll your kids in another school. There are great schools around and if you have kids that have done well in school, University High School (U-High) is a great school! I wish I wouldve known about them before my child started high school. If you can imagine a place where a high percentage of students have been in or will certainly end up in jail, you have this school. The teachers who leave this school, dont leave the school, they leave the Principal.***And to the guy that says [any bad review on here is from people who were bullied], there isnt a single review on here that mentions bullying.

This school prepares students with real life situations, they seem bad at the time but in the end, make you better off than if you went to a private school. The staff cares very much for their students and lots of classes are provided. BHS is truly an underated school. The only people putting bad reviews are the people who are bullied-which is unfortunate but it happens at every school and you will never find a school where bullying doesn’t happen. It’s like a community, rather than a coorperation of schools, like unit 5. I think the only reason people don’t like this school is because there is diversity and more than just rich, white kids. If you need to talk to a teacher, 99% of them will try to fix your problems. There is also a really good grading system here. You get As, Bs, Cs, Ds, and Fs here, rather than 1s, 2s, 3s, and 4s. If you aren’t good with people, maybe this isn’t the school for you if you don’t like people because there is over 1000 students who attend this school.
