I love this center! My daughter has been going here since she was 7 weeks old. Her teachers are phenomenal-they genuinely care about her and their curriculum (which is play-based) is great. They also take my older son as drop in when I need it and he loves his classroom too. Cant say enough good things about this place!

We send our kids here after having sent our oldest to other centers in town. The continuity of care and lots of time spent outside have been great for our boys. Also, we really appreciate how well the director communicates with parents and works cooperatively with teachers. These things really set it apart from other centers we have been at and toured. Its hard to leave the kids during the day, but we know they are in great hands at BDLC!

Our son is happy at BDLC even though at almost a year old his separation anxiety is pretty bad right now! He still crawls off excitedly when I drop him off in the morning, which Im so grateful for. His teachers are kind, calm, and responsible. And very experienced. The younger helpers in the room are sweethearts. Really no complaints. Oh--their outdoor space is also really nice, definitely the prettiest of any daycare weve seen in Bloomington. And they spend a lot of time out there.

We love taking our daughter to BDLC! It’s a unique and loving community where kids are encouraged to be themselves. The programming is Montessori and the menu is all vegetarian.

I am a current and long term parent of children at BDLC. My children have attended this amazing school since 2013. The teachers are amazing. They care so deeply for my children, even after my oldest graduated. The play based and child directed curriculum is wonderful for encouraging each childs individual self. I have also been impressed with the new executive director that was hired in 2017 and continues to work to improve the program. I would choose BDLC again if I had it all to do over again.

I am so happy to have found the BDLC. My daughter who is 2 now was at two different daycares before, and she would do nothing but scream and cry most of the day. When she started here, the teachers took the extra time to hold her and play with her and make her feel loved, and it changed her perspective on what school is. She also isnt just sitting there bored. Some things I really love about this place are that they play outside as often as possible and even get to have most of their meals outside at picnic tables. They have a garden where the toddlers can just walk around and pick things to eat like basil and cilantro and green peppers and tomatoes. It is planted by the preschoolers, which is also awesome! They grow little seedlings in the classroom in the springtime and then go plant them in the garden when the weather gets nice. They also have music classes and dance classes (although you do have to pay extra for dance, but its still cool to have that option during the day.) They encourage kids to play with paint and sand and to get dirty. Theres nothing better than when my toddler comes home with a speckled in paint and with a shirt full of tomato seeds from the garden. The kids also have a lot of liberty, if a kid decides to take their shoes off and stomp in the mud, it is met with a smile instead of discouragement. They really only discourage things that arent safe and even then they always use positive discipline strategies. Weve been there now for two months and my little one wakes up in the morning and says I ready go school! and she cant get her clothes on fast enough. When I come back to pick her up she has lots of things she wants to show me that she did throughout the day. At pick up and drop off and in the little events for kids and parents, her teachers have put in the extra effort to make me and my husband feel welcome in the classroom and with the new community of parents. I am just really happy that we got in here, so I wanted to take the time to say thanks.

My 4 year old son has been attending BDLC for over a year since transferring from another daycare facility. The positive changes in every aspect of his behavior and development have been truly amazing. His teacher is absolutely wonderful, and he has grown so much in his short time there. We are so pleased with the care and instruction that hes receiving that we recently transferred our 10 month old daughter there as well. In the three weeks that she has been in attendance, she has already learned how to feed herself and has officially started crawling! As parents, I couldnt think of a more exceptional school to send my children to!

My son has attended bdlc since he was five months old. We have loved our time there and all of the teachers and support staff. We have all made lifelong friendships thanks to bdlc. I love that they dine family style each day and clean up their own plates, cups silverware etc.

Highly recommend. New center director in 2017 is fantastic, so I encourage review readers to filter for the most recent reviews in 2017 to get a clear picture of the center as a whole. Both of my kids are there, age 1 and 3, and they have the most amazing teachers! We have very high standards for child care, and I am impressed day after day with the creativity and progressive teaching methods that these dear teachers use with our children. Our classrooms are close knit, oftentimes doing meet ups outside of the classroom at least once a month- its a true community there. You will see online pictures limited to the public, as we have private FB groups that share pictures almost daily of what our little ones are up to... painting, outside play, child-led learning. I have multiple colleagues at IU whose kids are there as well. A top 3 daycare choice in Bloomington.

BDLC is one of Bloomingtons oldest and most premier early education centers! BDLC practices continuity of care (teachers and kiddos stay together from 6 weeks- 3+ years), follows a play-based curriculum, serves a healthy and varied vegetarian diet (no hotdogs or chicken nuggets here!), and has outdoor play spaces for each classroom- meaning that the children spend lots of time outside every day (weather permitting). It is a non-profit managed by a parent Board of Directors, and has amazing and dedicated staff, many who have been with BDLC for years! The staff is incredible, positive, and works well as a team (this is not the case everywhere, and it is really such a positive attribute of BDLC)! Our new director, Kari, started in 2017 and has made so many positive changes.I have two children at BDLC, and it has been an amazing experience for them- I feel confident that they are well cared for, and that they are getting the best in early childhood education!

Both of my kids have attended BDLC (one is now in elementary). They have received excellent care and my kids love going to school there. The teachers are wonderful and infuse creativity into what they do. My older child received all that is needed to be successful in kindergarten, excellent pre-k and lots of play based learning. I also love that they are open until 6 pm.

My son recently graduated from here, and my daughter currently attends. We love it, and can say from personal experience that it is a loving and nurturing environment. Our son is a super happy kindergartener now, and went in well-prepared, thanks to the teachers at BDLC.

I have one child at BDLC currently and a second child attended a few years ago so weve experienced everything from the infant room up to pre-school. Our family has always been so impressed by the loving nature of the teachers not to mention their professionality and passion for early childhood education. I like that they cook and serve healthy breakfast and lunch on site, the wooded playground space is used twice daily, on bad weather days there is a large indoor space for climbing and running, and they are conveniently open until 6 pm.
