Before meeting Susan I was familiar with the Fatchance bellydance company through its instructional videos. Then in 2012 while browsing a listing of sister studios on Fatchances website I found Susan in Independence. Her studio Project Shimmy is a FCBD sister studio and Susan is teacher certified for this form of americanized bellydance.I began taking lessons from Susan and discovered that I was learning from a most awesome teacher. With years of dancing and teaching Susan under her tassel belt takes you through the basics of American Tribal Style. Covering not only the moves themselves and dynamics of ATS including musical theory.I have never been musically inclined and Susans way of teaching dance but also helping to understand the music one dances to helps to connect everything together. Susans teachings have really helped me to understand the dynamics between music and dance steps. I really enjoy learning from her and dancing during warmups in class.ATS is much different from Tribal Fusion, Cabaret,or some of the other bellydance forms. ATS can be done by anyone of age, gender and size. Yes ATS has its male bellydance brothers.I love being a student of ATS and highly recommend Susan as a teacher.
