Red Tail has many options for people to experience the thrill of flight (from tandems to intro and pilot license courses). I got my license in July and if I were to go back in time, I would choose Red Tail again. Not only did I learn the mechanics of the wing but how to minimize risks and fly safely. The instructors have the perfect balance of calm and firm communication to ensure we are able to work through the adrenaline to make safe choices. There is a strong community that continues after getting a license. Misha will plan alumni trips and introduce us to new sites after we leave the nest. Even though I am on my own, I never feel alone. Even though the sport is predominantly male, there is a strong female community within Red Tail as well.

Im a risk-adverse individual. After several years of encouragement from a friend and experienced pilot, I connected with Misha at Red Tail Paragliding first for the Two-day Paragliding Lesson, and shortly after for the full P2 Certification Program. I was both surprised and relieved by how accessible Red Tail makes the sport, supporting me as I progressed at the pace that I found comfortable. I flew only on weekends, and find the activity and Red Tail community to be a delightful, healthy outlet from the day job. The team of instructors at Red Tail Paragliding are very experienced, friendly, and accommodating. VERY high recommendation!

When youre running off a perfectly good mountain and flying several hundred feet above the ground, you want someone who is cool, calming, positive and safe. Thats Misha. From my first flight to the end of my P2, Misha always pushes to be safe, gives great feedback about your flights, takes the time to make sure you understand the concepts from flying to the whats covered in the clinics he gives and even when you are done with your P2, he is still giving advice and checks in to see that you are making good decisions. Some people ask how long to get to your P2, and that is at your own pace, but I was able to get mine in about a month.

I came to Red Tail for a foreign licence conversion, they took me through far more than that. I got a great refresher, on top of a fully comprehensive P2 course including specific focus on kiting and weather - my weakest spots. Post graduation they bring you into the wider flying community, advice on other sites and support you through your progression.Training is done at the north boulder foothills site and kiting at various parks across the Denver area. Access was great, the hill is perfect for getting through those first intro flights, with a straightforward walkup and a great spot for meeting other pilots and getting tips at the launch or at the LZ.I also purchased all my equipment through them - solid advice suitable to my level, good high quality range of gear and great after sales support.Excellent team of instructors, active in the community, great attention to skills, a solid intro into front range flying.

Red Tail Paragliding and Misha are hands down an amazing outfit. The top-notch instruction will give you the skills to start flying SAFELY (which is their most important focus), and the confidence to advance after. If you are looking for daily instruction, Tandems, or your full P2 this is the place to go. Getting into this sport slightly older (nearly 40) I appreciated all the Instruction and individual attention. Looking forward to continued education, which even after completing my P2 they have continued to help, in the next years. Also, this is a great social distance sport for the current times.

I 100% recommend learning to fly from Misha. After several years of watching pilots fly at lookout, things in my life aligned and I was able to begin training in 2020. Always one to keep my options open, I opted for a 2 day intro course which let me get my feet wet with little hard commitment. Of course, after my first few sessions of groundhandling (and more importantly after my first solo flight!) I was hooked and decided to go for the P2. I knew with work/life Id need to do it over time, and Misha was totally helpful with working with me all the way through the curriculum and finishing in May 2021. Misha also helped me with a payment plan that allowed me to pay for my wing over time while I continued training, which really helped with the necessary up front investment. I was even able to apply the cost of the intro course to the follow on P2 lessons which was a sweet bonus. As with most things in life that make life worth living, paragliding has inherent risks. It was very important to me to find an instructor that took safety seriously. Misha is that person! Hes a perfect combination of someone who can help you develop your skills while operating inside a safe and controlled environment. He wont hesitate to cancel lessons if weather might be an issue (and when he cancels for weather youll likely find an impromptu weather forecasting class...). Hes uniquely worldly, has a great perspective on life and flying, and has a ridiculously calming radio voice, which is great hes talking you through flights with progressive instruction.Misha has established an awesome community of alumni and pilots with Red Tail, which has made it easy to make friends with other people getting started and to keep learning from others who have been flying for a while. The whole Red Tail community is awesome and the instructors, Dustin, Ryan, and Brian have all been awesome in addition to Misha.Bottom line...if youre looking to start flying in the Boulder area you should sign up with Red Tail. Misha will get you to your P2 with the tools and capabilities you need to embark on an awesome new journey.

Misha’s Red Tail school is one of the best I’ve experienced so far. I initially took lessons at Eagle Paragliding in Santa Barbara, CA, and then finished up my P2 certification in Milpitas, CA. As a newly adopted Boulder pilot, I’ve felt my progression sky rocket in part thanks to the variety of flight options in CO, but primarily because of the insight that Misha has provided to me. Even though I wasn’t his student, he has welcomed me with open arms, and I’ve felt every bit a part of his school’s family. If you want an instructor who is well in tuned with your concerns, fears, and flying style, you can’t go wrong with becoming part of the Red Tail community.

Misha a fantastic instructor, and I felt like I got plenty of one-on-one mentorship. The school gear that I learned on was in great shape and felt easy to pilot for my first several flights. Nothing but good things to say about Misha and his team at Redtail Paragliding! If youre willing to put in the time, he will be there nearly everyday to help you get your p2 rating as fast or as patient as you need or want!! All the instructors are always the most calm whether theyre giving you instructions over the radio’s or walking you through something at launch/landing. They also always seem to know each student and their needs/progression better than any instructors ive seen teaching students, sometimes you see other schools students mess up launches or little things because they aren’t ready for that launch/conditions, but misha and his team always make sure each student is dialed before they progress to any aspect of higher difficulty! They also have created an amazing community of “alumni” or “graduated” pilots who fly together, chat about new sites, encourage eachother and in general are a great resource! 10/10 would recommend!

Great program, and FANTASTIC instructor. As a commercial pilot, Ive worked with a lot of flight instructors, and Ive learned what good ones have in common:1) Knowledge- both studied and experienced2) Effective Communication- 1 part vocabulary, 2 parts situational awareness, and 3 parts social aptitude3) Calmness in the face of Danger- With the ability to think and act quickly4) A Genuine Interest in their StudentsMishas got all four of those in spades, as well as a super fun demeanor and a great sense of humor. He might be the most laid-back man Ive met. Prolly the biggest thing that struck me though, was watching him coach my classmate through a bunch of thermals while standing on the lower launch, but then immediately noticing and coaching another student through a launch on the top of the hill, above and behind him. I swear, the guy has eyes in the back of his head.Super fun. Learned a ton. Now I love the sport. So thankful to my brother who sponsored my course, and that I got to learn with Misha. Thanks, Guys!

I flew my first day!I have just completed two-day intro to paragliding lesson with Misha. The experience has been wonderful, and I will be continuing my education. I’m sharing my experience so that you too can see how easy this can be.Before classes begin Misha communicated clearly and timely as to where and when we would meet for our first class. He was also clear to communicate safety issues and that weather would be the ultimate decider for when our lessons would begin.Day one we met at the learning hill and boy was I surprised at what a beautiful facility it is. The landing field is large, and its well maintained, watered and mowed grass. It’s the size of multiple soccer fields in size. Perfect for landings. Misha was on time and well prepared. Ground school was thorough and concise. We practiced skills on the ground and I was able to suit up and do a few practice runs. My progression was quick, the weather corruptive, and when everything was ready, Misha cleared me for my first flight! During my first flight, I received calm, clear instructions via a radio. Flying, turning, landing where all much easier that I thought. The skills learned on the ground came through and I landed safely and softly. What a rush!Day 2 was a big day. Misha evaluated the conditions and refreshed what we were working on. His calm reassuring tone gave me confidence. I was able to take off and lap a few more runs before the weather became too unstable for my abilities. It was the perfect amount of flying and instruction for the second day.My experience with Red Tail exceeded all expectations. I highly recommend paragliding as a sport. To get started I suggest you work with Misha. You will find his instruction and temperament to be the perfect flight instructor.John Clifford

Safety is always the top priority with Misha and you learn how to be safe while having fun.Misha not only provides lessons, he created a flying community. Theres multiple platforms for students and pilots to engage, chat, ask questions, cheer each other on and plan fun flying trips!!I recently earned my P2 and on my first flights without Mishas observation and guidance I felt confident to fly...which I attribute to Mishas style of coaching! You will not regret taking a tandem flight with Misha or signing up for lessons!! 4 months ago, I could not have told you anything at all about paragliding. It was not something I had ever expressed a desire to do and it was not even on my radar to look into. Yet one day while hanging out in North Boulder I looked up towards the mountains and saw a curious sight - a few silvery crescent wings gracefully tracing slow circles in a clear blue sky. When I figured out what that was, I knew I wanted to do it and started researching how I could get involved and especially how to do it as safely as possible.I determined that Red Tail Paragliding was the outfit that fit my needs after reading about the school and extraordinary reputation of the schools primary instructor, Misha Banks. Before I signed up with them, I went out to the site/school to see for myself. Of all the instructors and schools in the area, he seemed to be the most dedicated, being out and leading classes almost every flyable day. I observed that the school had attracted a wide range of students across genders, ages, athletic ability (not that much is required to fly, but hiking that hill...), and so forth. Most of all, I listened to how he taught his students. Having led professional training sessions myself, I was looking for how he explained complex principles and essential procedures. I was looking for any signs of exasperation or annoyance for having to repeat instructions when people honestly didnt get an idea and was happy to hear that instead, he would just explain the concept again from a different angle. And when fledgling pilots would make errors in flight, I didnt hear him get excited or flustered - he would just calmly tell the pilot what to do to fix the situation. And while he might have to manage a half-dozen students at various stages of their own progressions, he (and/or his experienced assistants Dustin, Ryan, Joe, and Rio) worked with each student such that they could have a safe and enjoyable experience as they learned how to fly at their own pace.Seeing all that positive instruction and the priority on safety in person is what made me sign on to be a Red Tail Paragliding student. Now its 4 months later and, after an aggressive flight and study schedule (be ready to read a big textbook!), I have achieved my P2 rating. Even still, I dont consider myself a particularly good pilot. In fact, when I started I was rather awful as it took me a few flights just to stop landing on my butt! I would say that I am a determined (stubborn?) pilot who is willing to do what it takes to learn how fly in a safe and fun manner and I have loved this phase of my journey towards my goal of soaring like those people I first saw in the sky earlier this summer. Additionally, I have shown friends videos taken of me while flying with the instructional radio channel in the audio track and even non-paraglider pilots have commented at how even and measured Mishas instructional tone was throughout my flights.Beyond running the instructional school, Misha has also been developing a large local community of flyers. People who even after taking classes, stay around to enjoy the sport while also learning and teaching from each other depending on where they are in their personal progression. I believe that is essential towards creating a positive space in the sport in Boulder. If you are in Boulder and have given thought to taking up paragliding as either a sport or just on a lark, you should ask yourself, Why NOT go to Red Tail? And if you cant come up with a good answer - and I dont know how you could - then there are a lot of Red Tail Paragliding students and alumni who will be happy to welcome you.Moon

Red Tail is the place to go if you are serious about becoming a pilot. The training hill in Boulder has four distinct launches and one of the worlds best landing zones. The LZ also has a mini hill to get comfortable before moving up to the first launch on the main hill. The instruction and guidance youll receive as you complete the P2 course continues well after you have your intial rating. Other schools dont offer that same level of mentorship. Ive flown with people that have learned elsewhere and they are always blown away with how much more of a holistic experience Ive received from Red Tail. Just the other day I wanted to fly in Wisconsin on a trip and one of my instructors linked me up with the local group within hours. I recieved my P2 Rating with Red Tail Paragliding. It was a remarkable experience, that I would not have been able to afford without the considerate payment plan options. The instructor Misha has a method that is inclusive, effective, adaptive, and holistic. The mentorship doesnt end after the P2, he continues to offer resources and guidance. This is more than a buisness, its a community. It was a choice that I certainly dont regret.

“Hey dad, what do you think about paragliding?”...that was my 16 yr old son a few weeks ago after getting hooked on a bunch of YouTube videos. 35 flights later he and I are new P2 paragliding pilots together on one of the most amazing father son journeys I can imagine! Misha is an amazing instructor, both in his attention to detail and capacity to communicate the requisite info and skills training to a 48 yr old and 16 yr old, patiently and effectively. As a professional firefighter for over 20 yrs I often challenge new employees with the perspective of “care for the public how you would like your own family to be treated”...and I’m here to tell you, I wouldn’t want anyone else in Colorado to train and mentor my own family in paragliding. Misha has a genuine passion for free flight and bringing new members into this exciting community. My son and I are grateful and privileged to call ourselves Red Tail Paragliding alumni and are looking forward to a long, safe and exhilarating future of flying. Thank you Misha for getting us into the air!

I have been a powered paraglider pilot for near 6 years now. I love flying but motoring around the sky began to feel a lot like holding the throttle steady on a motorcycle going down the freeway. To say the least I was ready for a new challenge and free flight provides all that for years to come but with more risk. At this point more training felt very necessary and Im glad Misha at Red Tail Paragliding was my instructor and will continue to be my coach for years to come. Misha is very patient and encouraging. He also teaches his students to be patient, a very important part of enjoying the sport for years to come!! If you are looking for a reliable source of training to become a better pilot, Misha will help you get there!!

Learning from Misha was the highlight of my paragliding training. Early on, Misha helped me build confidence and feel comfortable under the wing, and once I reached a certain level, he offered invaluable advice based on his careful observations of my performance. It is extremely easy to work with him, and I would recommend him to anyone interested in learning paragliding.

I started off as a paramotor student with another instructor on the other side of town. By happenstance, I ran into Misha and some of his students while kiting at the local Westminster park. Immediately Misha was inviting and candidly answered my questions while invited me to kite his wing. Two days later I had my first paragliding flight, and approximately a month later I’ve earned my P2.Having observed Misha alongside other instructors, I’m extremely happy I stumbled into Misha. He’s one of the most unflappable people I’ve ever met, and his halcyon manner in person and while guiding you on the radio is quite comforting and inspires confidence. He has extensive knowledge of paragliding and weather which he shares selflessly with others. If I were to design my ideal instructor, I’m skeptical I could do better than Misha. I highly recommend his training for anyone interested in learning to fly: you won’t be disappointed!

Update: Since my initial post I decided to continue the program with Red Tail and just completed the basic certification. Paragliding is awesome and Misha and the team made the learning process simple, safe, and fun.Misha is a very thoughtful instructor that allows students to learn while flying and enjoying the beautiful Boulder flying sites. If you have ever had the desire to fly without the expense and time associated with earning a pilots license, this is a great option. My son and I took the intro lesson today with Misha at Redtail Paraglide! Wow - What a great experience. Since it was our first time Misha started at the beginning and walked us through the whole setup, flying, and safety process. He is a great teacher, instructor. For a sport that can be intimidating he is a very calm and confident force. He taught us what we needed for a first run then we practiced needed skills before flying! We both made a flight and it was awesome! The site is great for beginners and just beautiful. Lots to see and an easy launch and landing area.2 Thumbs up! We will be back for another run!

As a former student of Misha from Red Tail Paragliding I can say that he is by far one of the best mentors and friends that you can have on your journey to becoming a pilot. He is patient and will always answer your questions and go above and beyond to figure out what you need. I was very pleased with the knowledge and skills that I acquired from Misha and because of that I will continue to go back and see him. Thanks for teaching me Misha!

If you are at all considering paragliding but are a little hesitant or unsure or just plain scared--you should talk to Misha. He works 1 on 1 with every student, knows so much about the sport and is an excellent instructor. Even if you mess up, he remains incredibly calm and tells you what went wrong and how to do it better. You wont regret working with Misha.

Yes. I will give this man the five shining stars he has earned. Not because hes the sexiest, cleverest and most talented paragliding instructor in the communist republic of Boulder, but because Im still alive. If it werent for his quick thinking, restraint and unbelievable strength, I would be a people-smear on a rock high on Longs Peak. Also, Ive spent my life NOT doing what people told me to do. I dont know why, but somehow Misha Banks zen like calm ( a calm that can only be matched by the most devout tibetan monk) resonated with me. And I learned a ton. In all sincerity, fly with Misha!

Want to fly? I was amazed at how little instruction was needed for the first flight. Misha got me in the air in my first lesson. Note: I was lucky with the wind staying slow and in the right direction. The most exciting part was after the flight I realized how little I knew and how much could be learned about paragliding well. If you are intrested and not scared by the cost, I would definitely reccomend trying Red Tail Paragliding.

Best intstructor in boulder. keeps the perfect amount of attention to all pilots. You can learn at your own pace. If you dont have the money you can do a nice payment plan to pay for your training. What i like the most was that he had hus own student gear so you can learn on his stuff at the beginning before you get you get your p2. This mean you dont have to spend 13k just to get into the sport unlike with other schools. Hes an instructor that you want to stay in touch with adter your p2 just cause hes so knowlageble. 10/10 would pick again
