Art department is horrible, its not on campus but in a old elementary school. They make it seem like its this wonderful place but really its not, your paying for the university not for Art or there departments. And if you drive there you have to pay to park not to mention theres no security over by the art building

Great school with professors that actually care about you as a person. Small class sizes means professors know who you are. Sometimes it does feel that the religious aspects are made more important than the education side. Administration seems to spend the money on pretty things rather than upgrading dorms/apartments and classrooms.

Review №32

If you want to go to boarding school this place is the next closest thing. Mandatory chapel, curfew, dress code, no women allowed in dorms or apartments, RAs even in the off campus housing and there is nothing fun to do in town. This school costs $44,000 dollars and is not a good bang for your buck. There is no night life in town or anything exciting to do outside of the classroom. This is not an ethnically diverse school either (79% white).

As with any university, it is what you make of the experience. It is a christian school so you do pledge to follow strict rules that are in line with the Nazarene faith. When I attended, I felt as though the majority of students had been home school. They were very out of touch with reality. Not bad people but did require patience and understanding. Loved my professors and the education I received. I was one of the many caught breaking rules and should have been expelled my senior year but the administration did their best to help me and allowed me to graduate. One of these reviews indicated that you had to be upper middle class to attend. That is not true. You simply have to take the time to apply for the many scholarships available, maintain good grades, and work.

Theres so much that I could say but I will leave it at this is an unrealistic place, the rules/policies are extreme, (the young adults are treated like children) (see the student handbook online). Not diversified yet they are recruiting minorities for sports. Felt like I was in the movie Get Out when I visited and urged my child to seriously consider attending as the culture that I could see was not a good fit for his personality. Chapel is required 3 times a week with assigned seating to ensure that you attend. My son felt like he was in prison. He could also feel the racial tension that existed within the football team. He lasted a week. It was a total waste of our money and time and almost ruined my childs perception of a good college experience. If you are looking for a predominantly white, holier than God environment for your child then this is the place for you! They have a culture/perception to uphold and it shows. I was also pulled over for failure to have tail lights on (in a rental car, as I am from CA, I didnt realize they werent on) Do you think I was allowed to go after realizing the mistake? No! My son and friends were then pulled over also days later for failure to signal. They sent out 3 cop cars for the boys. So, the community is a piece of work as well, if you are a minority you should seriously consider this place! Its not a very welcoming town!

I take full advantage of all this campus offers for community events. They offer free concerts (We saw Handels Messiah this year, wonderful!), there was a free event at their planetarium for the eclipse, and of course the free Bears Camp! They have great pay programs for baseball for kids and the campus is beautiful! ONU is a jewel for our area.

Really a for-profit college. They actually shun the poor across the street at Hidden Glen, putting up fences and turning all of their football field lights on, especially in the summer when the Bears come around, when industrial lights are actually set up in shown directly in our windows. (update: this is actually against a village ordinance, so after two years, they had to shut the industrial lights shining into our windows down. Woo!) One six-year old girl asked me Is that the sun? I said no. Then where is it? I always thought that was the sun [at night] They are such jerks. One of the highest tuitions in the state. Dont fork out that much for an average college.Update on 17 November, 2018: Seeing as many views this has gotten, I think Im getting somewhere. They do nothing about the NUMEROUS people zooming up and down Stadium Drive and in their parking lots--its so easy to get hit! Also, if youre a vegan or vegetarian, steer clear of this place. Expect to eat lettuce for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.(a few edits have also been made to the original review)

I attended ONU for 3 years, before I transferred out of there Social Work Program to Governors State University. Thank God! Transferring was the best decision I made in my life! I finished school and now have my Masters Degree in Social Work. ONU is not diverse, its a majority white school, and it is very conservative, similar to boarding school. The worst part about attending this school, was I worked hard, and never received the grades I deserved, a lot of my teachers were prejudice. They stick all the African Americans that come into there school in useless remedial classes that are extremely hard on purpose. Its like they set you up to fail if your a minority. The woman who works in the disability office told me dont use my lupus as a excuse to not succeed, when I was extremely sick. I just dont understand how any of this aligns with there so called Christian values. The Social Work Department is mediocre compared to Governors State University. When I transferred I finally received the grades and treatment i deserved. Not to mention ONU is crazy expensive and you dont get what your paying for.

Never went here. No affiliation or anything. However, I do know that A bunch of students from here are often employed at nearby restaurants throughout the area.About 3 weeks ago , me and my boyfriend had an issue with a few employees (possible college students) at a local restaurant.I left a complaint, they took down my name + address, and told me to expect a refund in the mail. I left a review with that particular restaurant and that was that.I assumed that everything about that was settled until today.Out of the blue.. today; Saturday march 25, I get a knock on my door. 2 white students (1 male 1 female) claiming to be Olivet Nazarene students who said that they are handing out free cookies to Bradley residents.(Ive been a Bradley resident for 5 years, nothing like this ever)...The male was holding a Target store bag with what appeared to be one small item inside; the girl holding nothing.I didnt accept the free cookies and they said Okay and walked away. While they were leaving, they didnt go to any of the other houses on my street. It was a bit odd considering how small the bag was; claiming to be passing them out to Bradley resident(S)... I contacted this University by phone just to confirm this and they pretty much said that they dont know anything about any students out doing that and couldnt confirm that any of their students were out & about passing out free cookies.Okay no problem...About 45 mins later, another knock on the door. This time the boy wasnt present just the same girl with another girl holding what looked like the same Target store bag with an item in it. This time I didnt answer because i noticed the same girl from before and I had already declined earlier. They eventually walked away and again didnt go to any other house on my street as they faded away.....I called the university back to report this or speak to an administrator, director, or someone in charge to let them know whats going on and got no one but receptionists for taking messages.Today is Saturday I get it but please no more Free cookies or whatever! Its weird..To sum it all up I dislike how the receptionists or whatever they were, handled my calls. I also dislike how they have limited information on what students are out doing on the behalf of the University.

I wish I could give you a more positive review. I had 2 kids attend ONU. Although I thought it was a good fit, we found some problems. The later was the most troubling. My daughter received a Softball scholarship and we’re pretty excited. We had used the current coach as a hitting instructor periodically. I thought she was a lady of integrity. My daughter started the fall session and never got ANY playing time! Fall ball is for the coach’s to evaluate there players and the season doesn’t start till spring. I had my daughter go in speak to the coach and clear the air. We went undefeated in the fall and 10 runned many teams....still no playing time. Last game of the fall she gets ONE at bat. A single...she ended her career batting .1000! Lol! We decided to transfer due to obviously she had no interest in playing our daughter. We had a roster spot lined up with a conference foe and the coach would NOT release her! I thought it was tasteless and showed NO class and expected more from her.Save your self some money and go the junior college route!!

I really love Olivet Nazarene University. They are very biblically based, without being too pushy about it. Which is nice. Im a graduate student. The campus is very beautiful, with a sort of greco-american style, very enlightenment based, with a taste of ancient Rome and Greece. The teachers are good, but they arent that great at getting back to you from certain offices on campus. But they do well. I really enjoy the masters program, Dr. Leth put together a great program. So far so good. Definitely check it out.

I attended their ABSN program at Oakbrook campus until they threw me out of the program due to discrimination. I will not apply or attend this school if you are a black student. Many Professors are very discriminatory and show racism when grading your exams. All my black classmates including some of white students will admit to the existence of racism among professors. Do anything possible to avoid this school if your black, Latino, Hispanic, or Asian. Save your money and time.

I am currently in their ABSN program this spring 2017 semester at the Oakbrook location. This program is a complete ripoff where instructors have no intention of teaching other than making you do time wasting assignments/discussion that have no correlation with the exam material or learning. Some Instructors along with department director (Joella Tabaka and Susan Day) play favorites on who to pass and who to fail. I would avoid this school completely and go anywhere else.

Hello I am a parent of 2 former students. My son spend one year at Olivet and left to go to a different Christian U. His experience would rank as a 1 out of 5. My daughter spent 2 disastrous years there with the school changing teachers, and curriculum and requirements mid year on both years. I would not be able to rank her experience. She left to go to a different Christian U. For the last 10 years we have continued to receive mail soliciting funds and catalogues (plural) despite out probably more than 30 requests by phone, by email and by letter and by mailing back their junk. They seem incapable of following the very least request - take us off your mailing list. That is hardly Christian. What a disappointment! The Ref on my mailer is Curtis Household ALMPFR 1217287. We just throw it in the trash now.
