I like to start with a negative aspect so people know this is a legitimate review. My only gripe is that it was cold in there...but Im from Houston so anything less than 75F is cold. Given that this is Montana, I would imagine that 70F is down-right balmy.Professor Brian as well as all his students were all so kind and welcoming. We just dropped in without notice as we passed through on our train-cation up from Houston and he invited us right in for the next class. Excellent class and excellent detail (Im a brown belt and have visited many schools and seminars). We were invited back for class the next day, which was also excellent. After each one, we were able to roll with many students from white to brown. Everyone was very skilled and represented their belt level very well. The mats were nice, bathrooms very clean, and plenty of space in the parking lot.I would definitely recommend Montana MMA whether you are passing through or signing-up.Thanks again to Brian and crew for the wonderful experience.

Pros:- Great instruction, even in the blue-belt led fundamentals classes (Im a white belt)- Great culture - no mat bullies or hazing - everyone is treated with respect and a pleasure to roll with. There is a culture of doing things correctly starting at white belt on up.- Lots of different classes and equipment - a great place for everything from grappling, sparring, judo, wrestling, MMA, etc. Has a competition team.Cons:- The price - $110 a month regular and $90 a month for college students is pretty steep. Not that bad considering what you get though.- If you are not comfortable with getting physical and enduring pressure this is not the dojo for you. We give (and take) full pressure and discomfort from white belt on up. If you are more into casual martial arts, Cutting Edge is much better.

Went to a Gi class while traveling in the area. I had a great experience. Staff and members were friendly. The class had good technique. The people I rolled with during the open roll were in control and very fun to roll with. No mat bullies. I will be going again if I am back in the area.

I studied karate for many years and I wrestled in highschool. I recently brought my son to study MMA and was very happy with how the children are treated with compassion and discipline. My son has thanked me many times for getting him into the sport. Coach Brian and his team are high quality martial artists and i cant think of a better place for my children to enjoy the science of self defense and confidence building.

As soon as I came into my first class, people started introducing themselves and trying to make me feel welcome. The atmosphere is awesome and so are all the instructors. They really want everyone to learn/improve/have fun.

This is my go to spot to train BJJ whenever I travel to Bozeman for business. Ive swung in numerous times in the past and have been welcomed in with open arms. Everyone is super friendly and nice. Bryan has set up a great and efficient structure to the classes. As a brown belt, Ive helped run a couple of classes and the students are eager and open-minded to learn new techniques. They have good questions and absorb information very quickly. Ive seen them successfully use that same technique in the rolls afterwards. Nobody has a meat head complex and the lower belts offer some tough rolls as well. I strongly recommend coming here if you want to get started in martial arts or are swinging into the area for a couple of days.

Montana MMA was my introduction to BJJ. having travelled to many different places now and experienced a lot of different BJJ gyms I can truly say what they do there is exceptional. The instruction, the members, the family and the facility are all great. I am proud to be a part of this family and will continue to recommend Montana MMA to people.

I have known Bryan Deats for almost 20 years and I have trained in judo for over 35 years .Though I live in Butte, Montana, I have trained and travelled from Spokane to Orlando, DC to SanDiego, and Chicago to BOZEMAN. I am proud to call myself a friend of Montana MMA and Bryan is, without a doubt, one of the most talented martial artists and teachers that I know. His school is one of THE best in North America.... Thank you for offering your skilled instruction Sensei Bryan !!

Fantastic school. I travel around for work and look for BJJ places to train wherever I go. The classes here were very detailed with excellent, practical drilling and great live rolling with both gi and nogi. The instructors and students are respectful and talented.

I highly recommend checking out Montana MMA if you are in the Bozeman area. I spent 6 months training here. During this time I noticed that the gym had a family friendly environment that provided classes for all fitness levels. If you are thinking about trying out a class definitely give it a shot. Brian is an overall great guy, and an awesome instructor.

Montana MMA is such a fantastic gym! Bryan is a great coach and mentor, always going the extra mile for everyone. He really cares about everyone that attends the gym, it is more like a joining a big, goofy family that happens to be great at martial arts. All the coaches put their everything into training. I highly recommend Montana MMA for all ages and levels of athletes.

Montana Mixed Martial arts is easily the best gym I have ever trained at. They have an excellent striking program affiliated with Bang Ludwig that has helped me further my kickboxing to a much higher level. All of the coaches are very encouraging and patient when helping people with techniques. Best facility Ive seen in Montana by far! Very thankful to have access to such an accomplished and accommodating gym here in Bozeman. Shoutout to the owner and head coach Bryan Deats for creating such an excellent environment.

Wonderful environment. Seriously kind people. Bryan Deets runs an incredible kids program. They tackle things like bullying and self esteem issues while teaching the kids to respect each other. The adult Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program changed my life. Great striking program as well. The mats are clean. The people are kind. The price is totally reasonable. If you are considering enrolling, do yourself a favor and follow through. It was a struggle at first for me, but I am so glad I stuck it out.

I just finished my first day doing the jiu jitsu program here, and I couldnt be happier. Im a little out of shape and the cardio was extremely hard for me, but everyone in the gym was awesome and extremely supportive. The people here make BJJ what it should be... learning. At no point with any of the people I rolled with did I feel that they were just trying to submit me as fast as possible, or make it in any way unpleasant. Couldnt be happier with the the gym and as soon as my free week trial is up I plan on joining. Seriously a great place to train

I joined Montana Mixed Martial Arts without knowing anyone at the gym, with very little boxing/ju jitsu/mma skills, and Im a woman. As you can imagine, making the decision to join was a bit intimidating at first. That said, Montana MMA, is everything I could have hoped for.First of all, as a newbie, no one was rude or condescending to me, instructors and other gym goers alike. Everyone I trained with was more than happy to help me when I needed it, and people often took time away from what they were doing to help me. As a female, I never felt uncomfortable or out of place. Most of the instructors and other gym goers seemed excited to meet a new female student who wanted to learn. On top of that, all the other female gym members were nothing but encouraging and welcoming. In addition to a positive training environment, Montana MMA is worth your money. There are other gyms in town that do a bit of boxing training, but often youll have to pay for private lessons. Montana MMA is a flat monthly fee for all offered classes. You can attend MMA, kick boxing, ju jitsu, and judo classes as many times a month as you want without having to pay additional fees. If youre looking to get exposed to any of the above types of training, Montana MMA is the place in Bozeman to do it. The classes are focused on skills rather than cardio, so there is a big difference between a standard gyms kick boxing cardio class and a Montana MMA kick boxing class. You actually want to learn to kick box? Go to Montana MMA, dont worry, the cardio will be taken care of.Over all, I cant recommend Montana MMA enough. Classes are offered nearly every day, and the people youll train with will create a positive training environment. If youre looking to get in shape or learn a new skill, Montana MMA is the place to do it, and it wont break the bank.
