MOSS camps were always a favorite of our two daughters and helped them develop a love and understanding of nature. The staff and board are dedicated and passionate about what they do. We highly recommend MOSS and support its mission which has inspired the kids of our community for 15+ years.

We LOVE the MOSS camp, staff ,and programming. Our youngest son looks forward to the session every year. The first summer I arrived with his brown bag lunch, only to ask what was in everyone elses backpacks. Well, water shoes, foul weather gear, bug spray and sunscreen to start. They get the kids engaged up that mountain and have real world skills from the onset. If you want your kids to get outdoors, this is the perfect place.

MOSS camp is by far the best camp for kids in Bozeman. It gets your kids outdoors exploring and they learn so much! Thank you MOSS!

My daughter really liked her two counselors and the diverse activities she and the other 1st and 2nd graders did everyday. Communication with parents could have been improved through email or texts regarding pickup and drop off locations during parking construction.

My daughter was excited for weeks to begin her summer camp at MOSS. When it finally arrived she was not disappointed...neither was I. She came home each day with a huge smile on her face and full of fun stories about her daily activities. We look forward to signing up for another class next summer!

I considered applying for a summer position, and had a pleasant email exchange with a staff member there. However, I found that MOSS doesnt exactly pay a living wage for Bozeman; 11.50/hr with no housing or benefits provided is not an appropriate income when youre looking for WFRs with college degrees. I cant speak to what the program is like or what its like to work there, but its disappointing when progressive orgs cant pay progressive wages.ADDED NOTE: The response to my review is worrying; that other programs pay $0/hr does not justify a low wage. Second, no knowledge of programs providing benefits or housing? -- does the staff member responding have any knowledge of environmental education norms (nearly every program provides room and board)? Finally, the rude-toned implication that I am greedy for needing (yes, needing) to make a decent living in order to pay my student loans, health insurance, car insurance, rent, etc. is disturbing. If I could afford to teach for free, I would. But unfortunately no one is bankrolling my advanced degrees and certifications. Also, the string of hastily-written, typo-riddled, sassy responses to negative reviews is pretty silly. Resolve your customer service and programmatic issues internally, but dont follow our president-elects lead by attacking all who dare criticize!

One has to wonder why a program with MOSSs mission and location hasnt taken off and become a model organization within its field. Recently, I learned why: its leadership and board have extremely limited experience in environmental education. The programs are not place-based or inquiry-centered, or even built around teachable moments. The staff deliver a dry curriculum that could easily take place indoors, and seem to have received little training in teaching techniques and philosophies. MOSSs leadership woes are most apparent in the recent move to promote a camp counselor to be the director of the summer program; it should take demonstrated leadership and curriculum development skills rather than a simple knowledge of the programs logistics to rise to such a role. Unfortunately, it seems like MOSS will continue to disappoint; hopefully another outdoor science school is able to start in the Bozeman area that can actually live up to the mission of environmental education.

MOSS staff exhibit a major lack of professionalism and integrity. An organization with a great mission unfortunately led and staffed by incompetent people.
