I dont recommend this school. This is the first year that my grades have truly plummeted. I was doing good at the beginning of the year. I cant concentrate in math sometimes and so I asked my teacher about an equation I didnt understand because I couldnt pay attention and he said how did you get into an honors class. I just sat there speechless and he walked off. Administration seems like they hate their jobs. seems like if you do something minor they get angry even if you comply with what they tell you. Some of the administrators are nice but the heads of administration act stubborn and treat us like children. Some of these other reviews are a bit exaggerated and its not terrible, but its not good. I dont mind the rules, theyre not terribly strict, but if they changed some things I think everyone might like it better here. If it changes and gets better in the future I will delete this.

From switching here from a private school, Ive really enjoyed it. No school has perfect staff but i do like most of my teachers. Most of the ones I have are great people and do a great job at teaching. I think many of the rules make sense but i think they are also rules that need to be modified because the school seems to have a tendency to not use detention for its intended purpose of disciplining a person for doing something wrong and they are given out so lightly. I was almost given a referral for my ID falling off on my way to lunch. Other than that i do like the school and most of its staff.

I swear Im so sick of Braden River, Ive never dealt with such a difficult school in my life. Ive never had a school that has had so many threats and still let the kid attend to the school. Ive never had a school where the staff is rude and half the teachers cant even teach. Ive never and I mean NEVER had a GPA lower than 3.0 until I attended this school (This is only my first year here.) Braden River is such a horrible school and I honestly dont even understand how its running anymore. Students literally cant even walk on the grass. Do you know how much faster it would be for us to get to our classes if we were allowed to walk on the grass? I know students that should have gotten into serious trouble for things that theyve done but since theyre close to the staff they get off the hook. It disgusts me how this school is ran. Tbh I dont care if the school sees this and I get in trouble, I hope they see this. Trust be told, I absolutely HATE Braden River.

I went to Braden River High School a few years ago and it was amazing. Met great people and had amazing teachers. I hope whoever chooses to go to Braden River High School will have a great high school experience.

As a retired employee of Braden River High School, I would forewarn all parents to consider Lakewood Ranch as an option. While working there, my both my sons attended Lakewood Ranch. Lakewood Ranch did so much to promote positivity, and talent, that both of their Resumes led to very high level positions in the aerospace defense sector on The Space Coast. I remember Teachers, and Administrators genuinely smiling at students, and asking how they could help them. The Polar opposite of Braden River.While working at Braden River, many Teachers would ask why I dont bring my Sons there... Even the thought frightened me. The proof is, as they say, in the pudding, and my sons certainly have proven the importance of attending a school that genuinely cares for students, and supports them. Those at Braden River lived every day in fear.....

Wonderful music and art programs! Tops in band, jazz band, and chorus. Awards galore for music and the visual arts. You should hear these young people and see the art they produce- they are excellent!!!!!

This school is not one of the best in Bradenton by far. They told me my child wouldnt be bullied because they have an anti bully policy but yet every day it happened. They just give the other kid a slap on the wrist and nothing ever happens meanwhile my child gets after school detention for walking in the grass. Papers get lost and no one calls you back when you leave a message. If you want something done you have to go to the school. God forbid of your child forgets his house key at home and you bring it there. You get told they will do it this time but not ever again. How rude! They arent even worthy of 1 star

I agree, the staff can be hell, and the teachers cant all be great but i basically lived at this school. And as much as most dont want to admit it, they always have fun here. Even if not every moment is great; they have an amazing Choir teacher, an awesome system, the best art teacher i have ever had in my entire life, and fun activities throughout the year with plenty of free stuff. Sure, things are over priced and everything like that, but a lot of that money is actually used for the activities throughout the year that give out stuff like free shirts and free wristbands.I honestly am proud to call myself a Pirate Alumni. What this school did to Lizzy Martinez is horrible. Breasts and nipples are natural. We all have nipples and there was is nothing in the dress code that requires the use of bras. Worst school i have ever been. Teachers are rude, non caring, or most of them dont even teach. Most teachers just hand you a packet or make you watch videos and have you teach yourself while they sit at their desks and do nothing. I dont recommend this school for anybody. The rules are ridiculous and they punishments for breaking the rules are usually way to extreme. Everyone complains about how strict this school is, and how all of the teachers here dont care and also Dr. Gilray (the school principal) is evil and very harsh. This school can be taken as strict compared to other schools around, but following common sense rules and dressing how you should dress everyday (not like a sloot or gangsta) isnt that hard to follow. Students who go here who typically get in trouble a lot and who fail their classes are the ones constantly complaining about how dress code is super strict, and how all of the staff and teachers are terrible.When in fact, the staff of Braden River are such outgoing people who care about the students more than the students even know. Braden River is by far the best high school around. Going to a school like this allows for you to actually get good education and many many benefits from all the academies. Its no wonder why our schools Engineering program is #1 in all of Florida, and has been for many years now. We also have an amazing Art teacher who actually knows what he is talking about, and has taught me more than any other teacher ever could. I have also heard many great things about the Science and Health academy teachers as well as the Business academy teachers, and of course, our amazing marching band and chorus teachers. I would definitely recommend this school to any student looking for a high school in this area. There is honestly only one thing about this school that over my 4 years I have seen to be unfair. That unfair thing is student discipline. Ive seen two separate students get in trouble for the same thing (which is definitely their own fault) and one gets a less severe punishment than the other. Ive seen this a lot with the well known football players who get away with doing stupid things which I personally believe is unfair. But then again, if youre smart and you stay out of trouble, such as I did, your experience at Braden River will be one youll never forget and one youll forever be grateful for.

Ive had a good experience at this school, but many of my friends have not. We have fallen victim to our administrative bodys harsh rulings about dress code, walking on the grass, and classroom distruption, among others. While I have personally done well here in the TSA program and in choir, I do not believe that administration always handles disciplinary action properly. Students should be allowed their choice of underwear, to state it bluntly. The student, Lizzy, should not have been forced to undergo humiliation because a male student was distracted. If Im distracted by doodling, for example, shouldnt you discuss with me about my problem focusing, rather than forcing me to tear up the picture I drew? This metaphor also proves true for her case; the boy should have been spoken to, rather than the girl being pulled from her instructional time to cover up. Shame on the faculty that forced her to jump around as if she was not a human, just like you and I. Shame on you for making her feel unsafe and ashamed in what should be a caring, kind environment. Although my experience was quality, other students should be able to have the same feeling I do walking into their high school.

Horrible school. Been there two years, have hated it. Administration act as if discipline comes before education, which they always make sure of. Braden River allows and unlicensed, intern teacher run a class unsupervised without his teaching license or degree, and then allowed this ineligible college student take disciplinary action when there was not a licensed teacher nor substitute near to confirm his accusation. Braden River needs to shift their focus on the students rather than the well being of their reputation & the horrible treatment of students. The most fake school I have ever stepped foot in, seriously disappointing.

This school is terrible, the rules are very over the top, and so is there discipline, i accidentally called my child during class this morning and the teacher took his phone and because i have a job was not able to get it and now my child have to walk all the way too and from work without a phone because they kept his phone for the weekend. I strongly disagree with this discipline. I agree with the no phone rule but if your going to take the childs phone dont keep it after school because something is going to happen to the kid and he will have no phone or any communication and that could cause a life. Braden River is an awful experience for anyone. Mrs. Velazquez is a horrible person . It seems as if her goal is to make sure you go nowhere in life by messing up your record. Even funnier story, the principle, nurse, and a dean lied to the parent of the nipples incident saying they were all in the room. However, they never were. Funny thing is I received two days Oss for lying ,so not only is the administration full of sexual predators ,they are also liars and cant set an example.

I recently got a detention because my ice pack busted at the end of class. My algebra teacher wrote me a referral for Class Room Disruption And one of the administrators said I was disrupting the class even though class was about to end. Also, speaking of administration, I told them the truth ONE time when I got in a fight and now they wont stop calling me up to the office so I can snitch on my friends. I am currently a student here and I transferred here from SEHS(where I thought I was escaping) but turns out I was completely wrong. My teachers arent bad and I actually like most of them but the administrative staff is just terrible and so are the rules they stupidly enforce. A 4channer uploaded a photo anonymously to the site showcasing his feet in a plastic bin of lettuce. With the statement: This is the lettuce you eat at Burger King. Admittedly, he had shoes on.But thats even worse.The post went live at 11:38 PM on July 16, and a mere 20 minutes later, the Burger King in question was alerted to the rogue employee. At least, I hope hes rogue. How did it happen? Well, the BK employee hadnt removed the Exif data from the uploaded photo, which suggested the culprit was somewhere in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. This was at 11:47. Three minutes later at 11:50, the Burger King branch address was posted with wishes of happy unemployment. 5 minutes later, the news station was contacted by another 4channer. And three minutes later, at 11:58, a link was posted: BKs Tell us about us online forum. The foot photo, otherwise known as exhibit A, was attached. Cleveland Scene Magazine contacted the BK in question the next day. When questioned, the breakfast shift manager said Oh, I know who that is. Hes getting fired. Mystery solved, by 4chan. Now we can all go back to eating our fast food in peace.

Hes back in the classroom.Mr. Burlew slammed a student into a wall a few years ago but there he is, back again.Go ahead and google Jason Mickan. Now how in the world did he get a teaching position.Assistant Principal Melissa Gagnon - have you ever looked up what she and her husband are responsible for in this district? Oh my. How do we employ these people and have the best interest of our students at heart.Theres a lot of arrogance in the administration here - starting with Mrs. (Dr.?) Gilray. Wheres Mr. French? Wheres Dr. Marshall? If you are a quality administrator here you get moved somewhere else. BRHS focuses primarily on disciplinary action rather then the prime reason they are in school ... EDUCATION. They have given me numerous detentions and extra school for the pettiest reasons resulting in me rescheduling work hours and leaving my dual enrollment classes early.

Ive only just started my junior year at BRHS and so far I have mixed views. The teachers, most of them I really like, they are hands on with their students they are very supportive and helpful, and have many great things to say about them. However when it comes to the authority in the school, I am very displeased. I understand the no phones in school, even though not being allowed to have your phone at lunch is slightly ridiculous. However, and I know a junior in high school is not a very credible source, but please do heed my warning. If this school used half of the energy they use on making sure students have their ID around their neck at all times, or dress code then it would be the cleanest, safest, best school around. I have personally seen kids get in more trouble for forgetting their ID a few times than kids bringing tobacco, alcohol, and other narcotics to school. I moved to Florida rather recently from Colorado, and in my years of schooling in Colorado not once did I get detention, and only a few times was a called into the office to talk about something. However, within the first month of BRHS I received 3 detentions. One for forgetting my ID twice, and not twice in a row twice in general. Another for having a small fray in my jeans just barely above the knee, and the third for getting pushed by some kid into the grass. This school is very misguided and wrong. The only good thing I can say about it is some of the teachers are pretty good, on the other hand many of them lack enthusiasm, or the desire to teach and are truly poor teachers. Out of my seven classes I truly enjoy four of my teachers two of them are not mean just kind of dont care, and one of them is a rude, hateful emotionally unstable woman with a tendency to snap very easily however I can not mention her name because I will most likely be called into student services for doing so as they do tend to check social media. I however can not bring myself to give this school a one star mostly because of two great teachers Mr. Engelberger, Ms. Elsdon and the great team spirit, and winning football team. When it comes to the kids at this school my views are once again mixed. Some of the kids are pretty great when you get to know them however a lot are rather rude and mean. I personally am a very social and outgoing person and very easily find friends, however if your child is not very sociable I can not suggest this school in the slightest. This is not the type of school where you sit alone at some lunch table and people come up to you and greet you and all of that, no this is the type of school where youll be lucky to even get a lunch table unless you have a group of friends. Most people wont let you sit at their lunch table, and are quite rude. So can I suggest this school? No not really, however its not much worst than any other school in the manatee district. Honestly I have not found much good in this district. I can only suggest you move out of the district, and go to another state. Try Colorado, its pretty great if you can take the cold.

Ive been homeschooled, gone to two different private schools and four different public schools. I can say, without a doubt, that Braden River was the worst, hands down. The Principal is a xenophobe and a hypocrite; she suspended me for wearing a small garnet in my nose (as per my faith, aids with fertility and pain during the cycle,) as she sported her cross necklace, and excused what should have been a reasonable accommodation to the dress code with, and I quote, We dont even let those Indian girls wear their burkas. The district wide dress code is misogynistic at best, with the restrictions list for girls continuing down the page, while the one for boys had four bullet points. The power-tripping administrators take this to a whole new level - where the dress code states that no midriffs should be shown, the administrators will force girls to raise both arms, and if even a sliver of skin is exposed, the girls will be suspended from class for the day. I cannot attest to the actual education that goes on here, as Ive become stellar at blocking out painful experiences from my consciousness, but my singular memory from the first day of a United States History Course should serve as testimony enough - the history teacher told us that we would be studying the founding of the country through the War of Northern Aggression. The theatre teacher was excellent until he was forced out - the substitute that replaced him knew nothing of musical theatre, insisted that My Fair Lady and Into The Woods were movies before they were Broadway Classics, and sent one boy with a middle-eastern-esque name to detention for drawing suspiciously. The superintendent did not have an open door policy - the opposite, actually. His secretary would not even pass on the message to him that I would like to schedule a meeting to discuss some of these issues. 0/10, your child is better off dropping out of school and hitchhiking around the country rather than being educated here.

A lot of bull sh*tery goin on round these parts. Excuse my language but there are some rules that are very unecessary. They limit freedom of expression with strict and dumb piercing regulations. Its ok for some kid to walk around with dinner plates in his ear lobe but you get several days of out of school suspension for a tiny metal spec on the nose and then they say the rule must be enforced because peircings other than the ear, no matter the shape and size, can distract others from learning. Highschool is made to prepare those that want to take their education to the next level. If your child cant focus and get good grades because an other peer has a certain hairstyle, piercing, or tattoo I am telling you right now that your child will NOT make it through college. Also an out of school suspension consisting of several days for such a small issue (it really shouldnt be an issue at all) is not how you punish a child. You do not take children out of school and limit them or hold them back from their access to education for such a small incident. This is absolutely rediculous and I do NOT recommend that your child goes to this school until they make adjustments to their system. These are very small adjustments too. Its not like were asking to allow kids to smoke a fat doobie during class time. Im sure the administration consists of decent, good-hearted, normal humam beings that are just doing their job but changes must be made. Im not the only one that thinks bad of this school either, its just that not many are willing to speak out.

Ive been at this school for four years and still hate everyone that works here, there grass si ugly yet we still get suspended for stepping on it? I could understand if we kept the grass looking like we water it at least once a year.Also the teachers that guide traffic in the morning .... please think for once, why would you open the gate to where we get stuck behind car rides... instead how about we open the gate in the front and move cars in quicker, but why would braden river do that, its a smart decision od course they wont do it, cause the devil herself sitting in her office thinks the wrong way is right. I am a junior at Braden River and I can truly say that I absolutely hate my school. Ive never been a student to hate school. I was an anomaly in middle school-I actually loved it! Needless to say, I was thrilled to start high school. I cant even put into words how disappointed I was. I went to Haile Middle School and I developed really strong, personal connections with most of the teachers there. I felt safe going to them with anything on my mind. I just assumed Braden River would be the same way. Boy was I wrong. The high school teachers at BRHS act more like stereotypical college professors. They treat the students as if we are just a means to make money and that is it. I have actually tried to engage a few of them and Ive been practically shooed away. Obviously, I have made great connections with some fabulous teachers and I feel like I should name names should any of them happen to read this: Ms. Masterson (no longer at the school), Ms. Bieber (no longer at the school), Ms. Gregory, Ms. Helfrick, Ms. Barry (no longer at the school), and Mr. McLean. These six teachers were able to make a huge impact on my life and I will forever be grateful to them. As far as the administrators go, I think all of the other reviews were pretty accurate. They are treated as gods and while I try to stay on their good side-and for the most part I have (Ive only had two detentions and one extra school my entire time here)-they are terrifying. I feel like they care a lot less about my education than they do about the dress code. I actually wish they would give in and just give us uniforms. At least that would take the emphasis off of my clothing and put it back on education and growth potential. Just like any other Florida high school, Braden River over-stresses standardized testing. I am in AP US History and according to Florida law, that class waives my EOC (just another standardized test, it means: End of Course Assessment) requirement. However, Braden River told all of the AP US History students that they still have to take it. Their only reasoning being that our test scores will raise the schools average. The administration actually made it sound like my class taking this test was absolutely necessary. I refuse to be forced out of another one of my classes for a minimum of 90 minutes to take a test that isnt even required for my graduation! I am actually holding a peaceful protest within all of the other AP students. I would like us all to adamantly refuse to report to our testing locations on the day of the test. Why Braden River would even THINK that tricking students into taking a long, nonessential test would be beneficial to the school is beyond me. As for the students, we are your traditional, rebellious high teenagers. I was severely bullied last year, but bullying happens at all schools, so I cannot really fault Braden River for that. However, I can go back to administration on this one. I definitely didnt feel comfortable going to the adults at the school. I honestly dont think they would have done anything to prevent the bullying or to even help. We do have some excellent programs at the school. Our football team is phenomenal. I was a member of the State Champion winning Marching Band of Pirates and Colorguard. And we do have one of the largest FFA programs in the state. So, no Braden River is not ALL bad and if your student is passionate about the arts or agriculture, then this might be a good choice. Just know that there is a constant war going on between administration and students.

Hello.I went to this school the very first day it opened.Back when Ms.Gilray was just the assistant principle.And Mr. Pauley was principle.You would get suspended for literallywalking on the GRASS! and told tolift your hands up in the air. And if you did this and your shirt went 1/2 an inch up, youd be in dress code violation.I remember thinking,if i asked MRS.GILRAY TO LIFT UP HER ARMS, and HER 1/2 inch showed...OMG !!! but of course, she would NEVER hold up her arms.You would think that students went ROUND holding their arms in the air, wouldnt you? No.horrible school.Walk on MY GRASS and ill suspend YOUR ASS!!!! I remember when they stopped letting girls and boys going there from carrying WATER bottles. no water for us. because ONE student a month prior had brought liquor to school in a water bottle it was NUTS.

This School was by Far a WONDERFUL School to begin with, THEN Ms. Gilray who is Believed to have NO SOUL by the Teachers and Students Took Over as Principal. She Turned it into a Jail, shes Overwhelmed with Power and Doesnt Deserve it. Parents Dont Even like her Many Stating that she is a B**** she Runs in the Palm of her Hand. Last Year I left and Switched to LRHS. Along with me Leaving so did Half of the Schools Teachers including the Best and Highly Respected Weight Lifting Coach, Coach Wilson. Also their Band Instructor who lead them as #1 for the Marching Band of Pirates and Many Other Teachers who Made the School and Extraordinary School with Joy, Happiness, and Success. They Left Due to the Gilray Plague we Shall Call it. The School now is well a School your Kids Would not want to Attend. You can get Detentions and Expelled for Small things like IDs or Walking in the Grass and I Would not Suggest you have your kids go there. Thank you for your Time. :)

The school has the potential to be a well established educational facility, however they are too focused on disciplinary action rather than their students education.

I was there last year I disliked it because the teacher was not even nice to us in ese department only one and two ese staff was nice

Braden River is a fine facility, thier teachers and staff are amazing and full of passion.The only complaint I have is that the Principal Ms. Gilray and the School resourse officer Mr. Ackerman overstep boundaries they should never cross with students, and others they dont like. Playing favorites, making empty threats to control unknowledgable minds through fear.

Administration drops the ball with inappropriate conduct. Some of their mistakes have even gone public, sadly to say. Teachers and adminstration both should be held responsible for their actions, especially concerning the 17-year-old junior forced to jump up and down as they watched her chest. Furthermore, their communication with parents is poorly kept, and often when it is kept, its always with a rude attitude.

They took my lip ring when it was just a clear bar and a band aid over it! When and administrater told me when I was enrolling there, to have a band aid on it or not wear it.

Blessed to have my child in this high school!!

Still these god dam rooms smell like moldy cheese and still things are on fire (literally) but at least they improved my grammar
