I requested a wash and blow-dry, flat iron and trim. The wash and blow dry went well and the student was learning with my hair which I was definitely fine with and actually helped.The problem came when a student added oil to my hair before flat iron which made my hair clump and obviously oily. Then another student didnt know how to trim hair. One side was done by the instructor and looked fine, the other side was done by the student and she was struggling on how to hold the hair when cutting. The instructor assisted for a moment but then left, came back and adjusted her hand and where she was standing to trim the hair after that she left again.I looked at the left side of my hair and see it was a bit shorter on the left side so I stopped the student and the instructor came over and I told her that it looked bizarre compared to the right side. Overall, she made it seem like it wasnt a big deal then she tried to cut a bit more on the left, pulled the crown of my hair up to check the length to which she agreed. Then she procced to say that my hair had a blunt cut. I dont know what that mean but all I know that my left side of my hair is shorter and uneven layers because how the student angle the cuts. She said the only way to fix it is to cut my hair shorter and I said no thank you because it took me 3 years to get to shoulder length.When I get to the register, I asked the other student who helped me iron my hair and I asked her does this side look shorter? and she said yes. I told the front desk person about my hair and the instructor kept coming back and forth to the desk seeing what I was going to say about it I believe.I went to pay and I was charged an extra $4 because I had my hair trimmed at an angle but guess what? There are two types of trims. 1. Angle cut which is $18 because it requires more technique and 2. The BOB Cut which is $14 because it just cutting the ends all around...no pulling up hair or nothing just a straight shot cut around the head.I requested a trim but I wasnt told or given the option of which trims I wanted since it was my first time there. The instructor just started cutting my hair at an angle. I think the student and/or the instructor should notify the customer of the two types of trims. Well, the front desk lady basically said Well, for future reference there are two different trims.The service was good but I wasnt satisfied with the trim for obvious reasons. I wish the trim charged was knocked off for the bad cut on the left side of my hair. Serious, if the student isnt even standing in the right position of trimming then they need to still practice on the doll head not on OUR head. The instructor saw this, reposition her hand and physically moved her body into position to cut. I wish the instructor took controlled of this preventable situation.I know that were paying for student work but practicing bad cuts on our head an instructor not taking control of situation that was preventable is sad. We pay money for good work.

I was very disappointed with their professionalism. I had an appointment for an mani/pedi and 9:30 and they didnt even begin to help me until 10:15 because they had a meeting. I couldnt believe they had meetings during the time clients had appointments. After waiting nearly an hour, there was a miscommunication between the person who scheduled the appointment and the student. So, they were unaware I was getting a pedicure and had nothing set up. Then when they tried to set up the pedicure there seemed to be no sense of urgency, although I had already waited an hour to be helped. When they returned with the pedicure kit all of the containers were empty. I felt bad for the student because she tried to set everything up, yet she had no materials to start it! She took her time on my pedicure and it came out nicely. So I commend her for that.I wasnt too happy about my no chip manicure, I was able to completely peel off the thick layers 3 days later. It was also strange that the UV light for the no chip manicure was stored away in a box, which leads me to believe they arent really practicing this skill. You do receive a free bottle of nail polish, which made me a little less upset.Overall, I think they are poorly managed and have no regard for the clients time. The whole experience took over 3 hours and cost me $50. The terrible thing is that my student was very nice and respectful, but had no resources to get the job done efficiently. I dont blame her for that, at all.

I dont recommend this schools esthetics program. I was enrolled as a full-time student in Dec 2020 and I withdrew due its poor quality of education in terms of curriculum, instructors, facilities, equipment, and supplies. Most of the days, we were left without supervision both online and on-campus and advanced students were instructing the basic students. Overall, I sensed dissatisfaction from the students. This school does not respect and value its students, unfortunately. In comparison to other esthetics programs in the Chicagoland area, their education is overpriced and subpar. I highly recommend other schools if you want to build skills as a competent and confident esthetician.

I love that Im able to come here to get professional services at a fraction of the price.... AND it helps the students practice on real people. Even though students are providing the services, Im never worried since they consult their supervisors through every step of the process.I feel like some salons rush through the service just to open up another chair... But here they really took the time to discuss what I was looking for and informing me of the options.I would recommend coming here when you dont have a time constraint as it may take longer, but its definitely worth it knowing that theyre making sure its done right.

As a senior citizen, I have been going to barbers for almost 7 decades, so I have experienced a LOT of barbers. During my last visit to Tricoci, the student who cut my hair, Jay is her name, made me feel the most special of any barber I have ever experienced before! Her professionalism, her customer service, her explanation of technique, her recommendations for hair care which she researched between visits, were simply amazing. I cannot praise Jay enough!!

I went here for a gel nail removal, and also ended up getting a facial.The gel removal was the most gentle, Ive ever had. The lady who did them was also very personable, and I appreciated this experience.Ive never had a facial before, so I have nothing to compare this experience to, but I greatly enjoyed it. The woman who did it informed me of every step before performing it. The room was all dark and a good warm temperature to help me feel relaxed. My face definitely felt clean and looked radiant.Side note, the scrub she used smelled so good. It was some pineapple scent and was very gentle on my skin. It didnt have large pieces like in those St. Ives face washes.Overall, you can tell the students really take their time and are careful, which is what I expected. The instructors are also always present and providing feedback, if needed.

Had a great experience with a color correction! My hair had some unevenness due to a darker shade previously used on my roots. I came in wanting to even out my color. Owen and Ms. Clarice took on the task and wouldn’t stop until it was right! The attention to detail and ability to troubleshoot was impressive and when I left I had even and beautiful color. Wonderful job!

Angela was amazing today! She helped me take 3 inches off and I feel and look great. The staff was great and the teacher on the floor was really helpful and supportive. I will definitely come back!

The service is great and the ambiance is comfortable and welcoming. Stylist Diamond always gave me wonderful conversations and tips to best style my hair. She also made sure I was always comfortable and happy with how my hairstyle ended up. 10/10!

I received a facial by Lauryn Shakespeare and it was amazing. This was my first professional facial and I will definitely be back. I was glowing for days after I left. I was told y skin was dry type and my forehead and cheeks were dehydrated and they explained this to me so when I felt a tingle when a layer of product was applied I understood why it was tingling, which is important. Overall 10/10 will definitely be back for a birthday facial.

I got a great color from Ariel F. Shes on her way to become a master colorist. One of the teachers was against my suggestion on my root touch up and highlights. (this teacher actually fought me) I know my hair and what it can take. My hair tuned out wonderfully and Im happy.

Got a facial by Angelica and she was awesome! She made me feel comfortable took her time, and went into detail about the products she was using and what they were for. Highly suggest going to see her.

Been going to this place for over a year now and they’re not bad but I’ve dealt with too many problems from them recently. If you want to find a place that does hair well at a decent price then go here. The main downside is the wait time. Saturday’s are walk-in days and I’ve shown up at 8:30am to sign in (they start at 9am though) and I’ve walked out of there by 1pm. This is just to dye my hair and sometimes to do highlights. But it literally has taken about 4+ hours so make sure to clear your schedule completely that Saturday, and bring water and snacks if you’re going to go. When you go in make sure to have a photo to show them otherwise no matter how you describe it they might not get it exactly how you may want it especially if it’s a new style or a certain amount of highlights. So having a photo helps a lot. If you’re on a budget then I would recommend this place but I’ve wasted way too much time here. Even with an appointment during the week they will make you wait past your appointment time. So be prepared. I won’t be going to them again because it took 3 visits just to get simple red highlights. First time they barely gave me any highlights. Second time the color washed right off after being there for 5 hours then the last time they did a treatment that helped the color stay on but it still wasn’t red. It was bronze. Too much of a hassle and too much of my time wasted so I’m looking elsewhere.

She was very nice and her Instructor was very observant and made sure all was in order. All the staff were so friendly. I will definitely come back soon. Another shout out to Student Penny McDonald!

I had the absolute BEST experience today, with the most wonderful, talented, and passionate Jenny. From the moment she greeted me to take me to her chair, I was met with a fun smile and personality that exuded confidence. Jenny listened and understood exactly what I wanted done, as well as incorporated her own knowledge and experience to create one AMAZING hairstyle that I couldnt wait to go out and show the city of Chicago! My once super long, dead, and splitting ends are now layers of happy, healthy, and perfectly sculpted hair all thanks to Jenny! If you want a great cut or color, this is your girl!The University as a whole runs extremely well, so no matter who is working on your hair, you are guaranteed someone who listens, pays attention to detail, and does their best work with the assistance and supervision of the teachers that are present. Everyone is friendly, helpful, and I cannot wait to go again!

Me and my wife loved the facial done by Angelica. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because when we went to the room for facial then it was over crowded and they got overwhelmed. But loved the facial service second time. I wish they can do scheduling on Saturday so u can come on time rather than just waiting for ur turn.

Since all my student-practitioners have graduated, I cant recommend anyone at this time. But the services have all been just super. For a low cost, Ive gotten gorgeous partial highlights. Facials and body scrubs in a surprisingly top-notch spa for a school. With the VIP card ($20) thats 20% off services for 3 mos. I love all the special offers they run each month. There might be specials on services, or hair or facial care products on promotion. The 20% discount can be used on them, too. So bring a little extra with you because youll be sorely tempted to upgrade your service during your visit.

I called ahead and the courteous front desk lady told me Saturdays are walk-ins only, first come first serve. Doors open at 8:30 and services start at 9. I arrived about 8:45 to avoid waiting, and requested a facial and a back scrub. They gave me a spa cover, robe, and sandals to change into. The facial (balance) is far and away the best I’ve ever experienced. The aesthetician, Liz Hardy, massaged each product into my face, décolletage, and even did my hands. She checked in with me about temperature every time there was a hot element (towels and hand warmers). She whispered to warn me each time the toner spray was coming. The treatment room holds 3 people, so all talk is whispered. During my back treatment, I nearly fell asleep it was so relaxing. This is a school so the rates are ridiculously cheap-$50 today for what I’d happily pay $200 for at a salon. You don’t get the privacy of a salon, otherwise the pampering is the best deal in town. Sheridan location near Loyola in Chicago. Easy trip for me on the red line.

Colleen did an outstanding job coloring my hair! The directors of the school oversee everything and do a fantastic job teaching the students as they go in a positive way. I have never left unhappy. Just be sure to leave extra time, as it takes longer than it would in a typical salon. Well worth the price, though!

My experience was very pleasant. Brandon student barber did an exceptional job. He was cheerful and followed my instructions to T. The area and others working there were also pleasant. I will go back again .

The finished product was great! I got my roots touched up and a toning treatment. The consultation process was drawn out and a touch confusing but I am more than happy to have a long consultation if it means getting the right result!

I was here about 3 weeks ago to get a facial and the esthetician was very professional and meticulous with her services. The ambiance was every relaxing and I am heading back for rest of facial series. Prices are affordable and results are high quality.

I had not had a haircut in 4yrs.the day I walked into Tricoci.I didnt just trust anyone to do it and I couldnt afford a salon. Tricoci freed me from both problems. Ive had a great experience every time and that was over a year ago. Ill not go anywhere else.

Went in recently, just wanted the sides cut shorter and a little bit off the top. They couldn’t even get that right. I get it that they are student but they lack basic skills and confidence. The instructor had to do the whole thing and ended up being a lot shorter than I wanted.

Great job. Gets better each visit. Alex did a fine job with my color retouch.

While I have had my hair done here many times, the last time I was there I showed the student a distinct horizontal line made by a prior student. When we showed it to her supervisor who acknowledged the clearly visible unwanted line of color, I was told they would not redo my hair at their expense. I unfortunately now have this line of unwanted color in my hair. I hope you will read this and contact me to make amends.

Right, so Im really not really emotionally attached to my hair, so Im all for letting it be used for educational purposes. Id been to Tricoci before for a quick cut, and it was amazing (one of the best cuts Id ever had). However, on my last visit, I had a 12:30 pm appt (when the place opened) to get a trim and a few strands of my hair dyed a fun color, but I didnt leave the place until after hours, around 6 pm. Yes, folks. I had a 5 hour plus hair appointment for something that shouldve only taken two or three tops. It was nuts.Haircutting portion of my appointment took almost 2 hours, and bleach and dying another 3 plus. Dye washed out by next day, which made me grumpy because I hadnt asked for temporary dye. Money and time down drain. :(

I walked by this place so many times without walking in. I assumed that it was a fancy (and expensive) hair salon that did not cater to my African American hair needs... but I was wrong on a number of fronts.1. This is a school so all haircuts, etc. are performed by students under the supervision and tutelage of their instructors.2. My very simple haircut, a bald fade, cost only $10 (which then allows me to be a big tipper).3. From Miss Nicole at the front desk to Brandon who has cut my hair two weeks in a row (because at these prices I can afford to keep my fade clean and tight), I’m thoroughly impressed with the customer service and skills.The downside is that Brandon will eventually graduate and I’ll have to decide whether to follow him or break a new student in. Thank god for 1st world problems.

I had the pleasure of receiving a Full Body Scrub and an amazing Facial by a young lady named Penney McDonald. She was very knowledgeable about the products and what they do. She was very professional and I highly recommend her when being serviced. I will be coming back soon.

Got a long layer cut and a chem shot by Jackie (sp?). The chem shot was nice, because my hair stylist added purple toner to get rid of the yellow of my dyed hair. It also made my hair seem super soft for a few weeks! The cut itself took quite a while, but I wasnt in a rush so that was not a problem. Thankfully the adviser cleaned up my cut because my layers were quite choppy. But Im really satisfied with the cut, and my hair air dries very nicely.Will return again!

My experience has been great and Im loving my results. Ive been getting facials for the past 3 weeks with Andrianna and shes phenomenal. All of the staff members and students here are friendly and welcoming. I will recommend.

On March 8th I was recommended a Barber name Brandon. Brandon did an amazing job! Kept it professional, and his instructor mr. Tony helped with the haircut, and product knowledge. On March 6, 2018, Jocelyn,supervised by her instructor Miss Flo, gave me a beautiful perm!The task was made more complicated because I color my own graying hair,and usually use drying inexpensive dollar tree shampoo.They gave me a beautiful perm.!I also purchased product to help me maintain it.

I went to Tricoci in Rogers Park on Tuesday, September 25 at 11:00 am. The front desk clerk was very stone faced & was not pleasant at all but she was not rude. The person who did my hair and the instructor were very pleasant but the worse part was I was NOT pleased with the way my hair looked when it was done. The woman cut off too much of my hair, combed & defused it, it looked puffy when it was done. I looked like a wild woman! I like my hair in its natural curly state. I told this young lady before she started not to comb my hair out because I knew it was going to look puffy. I just wanted her to clip the dead ends, put curl activator on it and let me go but no, before I left I was so embarrassed I had to pull my hair back and it was a tiny ponytail. I was not going outside with my hair all over my head like that. When I mentioned to the instructor this girl cut off too much of my hair, she said, no madam, she didnt. I believe in tipping but NO TIPPING HERE! My name is Anita Haliburton.

Your staff are friendly, knowledgeable and make their craft/skill their utmost priority. I had the pleasure of coming in on a Monday and was given a haircut by Brandon. As his teacher, Mr. T, looked over his students work, we started talking about ways in which I can continue and maintain healthy hair outside of he barber chair. I have to say he went above and beyond to give me a list of products I could use both from their store/school and that could be purchased elsewhere. I still have this list and have shared it with family members. This is far beyond the service I would have gotten elsewhere. Back to the student, Brandon, he definitely was attentive and wanting to make sure he was cutting my hair to my liking and using skills he knew, and learned through my haircut experience. Mr. Bearj also made my experience fabulous from the friendly voice I heard on the phone, that was inviting and cordial. I will be back for sure as both my partner and I have frequented and live in the Rogers Park neighborhood. Kudos!

My stylist was Owen she did a fantastic job. Was very gentle and asked appropriate questions. I have very long hair and I have been receiving many compliments on my hair.

How can you say, No to a salon quality haircut at a fraction of the price. I went to the Barber side and paid $10 for a wash and cut. Although these are students, they are under the direct supervision of professionals who constantly check and adjust cuts as needed. Ive gone twice already, and I have not been disappointed. I called the first time and was not able to make a reservation. The cuts on average will take longer than usual, but so worth the price. Give it a try.

I received an appointment next day with a great stylist who took the time to do things right. Her work wad checked by a supervisor. The price was great and I loved the look.

The staff was nice and I really should have thought better about going since its a bunch of students, but it was absolutely bad. Even after explaining how I wanted my hair cut the student was a bit confused. She went to the instructor, which I was thankful for, but the instructor did not know what she was doing either. After telling her not to cut a certain section of my hair she did just that and cut it way shorter than I wanted it. Its safe to say I will not be returning. Paying $50 for a haircut the lady messed up and didnt finish because I walked out was ridiculous. I ended up going to another salon to have my hair fixed. I would not recommend going here, especially since I just wanted simple layers and bangs.

I am African American with non chemically treated hair. Got the wash, trim & curl from Taylor who will be graduating soon. My hair has never been so silky & bouncy. Such a great result for a low price!

90 minutes after my appointment was scheduled, they still couldn’t tell me when I’d be seen. I respect that the students are on their own schedule, but they should also be able to give honest time estimates to respect the customer’s time.

The worst hair color in the world. I presented the stylists oops! my bad! Student a picture of the color I wanted. Since she stated that she had been there since January she would know how to color hair. Boy was I wrong. This young lady needed help with everything. After jacking up the color of my hair, A couple of the other instructors attempted to help her get my color right. . After being there for nearly 4+ hours I finally walked out with the front and top of my hair coloredclose to the color I wanted but the back is a different shade of color. Never in my life have I ever experienced such a thing. But I guess thats what I get. I will not be back!!

Kellin at Tricoci is absolutely amazing. I have been very disappointed by other local salons and on a whim one day I set an appointment and have not been so pleased since I have moved to the city.

Ive been going to this school for a couple of years, mainly for a haircut. The students seen to be well trained, and know what theyre doing. And its a comfort to know that an instructor is close by to assist.

My stylist was Monica. She touched my roots. Perfect color match and care. Highly recommended!

I dont know how the professional services are because I was never able to get that far. Called to ask about scheduling an appointment for tomorrow (a Saturday). She explained to me that they only did walk-ins. So I asked how many people were usually working on the floor (to get a feel for how long it may take). The woman who answered the phone said I dont know, the students have lives out of school! What! Then she babbled and hung up on me before I could ask about pricing. Great representation guys 👍🏻 I was excited to try this school out, really disappointed by the way I was treated.

My daughter had her first Military Ball and we decided we would try here for make up services. We were amazed by the talent and customer service that was shown to us by our amazing Esthetician Ebony. She asked questions and listened to what my daughter as the customer felt comfortable with. I would recommend Mario Tri Coci University to friends and will visit again. Thank you Ebony and good luck in the future and on your graduation!

Walked up to at least 8 employees smoking outside. Went inside and waited a couple minutes for someone to come in and assist me. Was told they only do walk ins on Saturday. All 8 of y’all outside smoking and none of you want me to pay you to trim my hair? Okay 🤷‍♀️

Today was my first day actually getting my hair done at Tricoci. A family member suggested I try it out so I went ahead and did so. Im only giving my 4 stars towards the work that was done by Roshi Smith. When she says her specialty is cutting hair, she is not playing. She gave me a really good deep conditioning as well as flat iron. Wasnt too rough and I can tell that she is comfortable at what she does. A few others that were in the facility, more specifically the instructors that were in today definitely rubbed me the wrong way when it came down to being treated fairly and with respect. That is the only thing that has me hesitant with even spending my money here ever again

Ive never had my eyebrows done before, so going in Ill admit I was a tad bit skeptical. But the brows I walked out with exceeded my expectations for sure. l had Natalie do my brows and she was so sweet and reassuring, and although shes graduating soon I cant wait to return and see what else the students have to offer.

I went in for a facial and had the pleasure of getting it done by Pennie. She did a great job, my facial was very relaxing and she very warm and inviting . I would definitely go back and if anyone is ever looking for a facial in the neighborhood Pennie’s your Girl.

Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable, my hair was awesome! Rabekah did a great job.

Have gotten my hair colored, washed and blown out a number of times. Cant beat the price! Students, staff and teachers always friendly, professional and helpful.

When entering the location i was pleasantly surprised by how clean and busy it was, but when it finally came to my turn after 30 minutes of waiting i was disappointed to see that they had a low selection of gel polish colors. When the student took me, she was very sweet and nice but i could tell i was probably one of her first ever manicures! When cleaning and shaping she did pay a lot of attention to the nails but when She started applying the polish it just went downhill from there. She did not touch or clean up until after the nails baked making any way of saving my nails worthless! Just received the worst no chip manicure ever! Aside from that, I felt bad for the student and was surprised the teacher said she did a good job when in reality I could have done better at home.Update: it s been only 6 hrs since getting the gel on and it already peeling away from where the polish overlapped the skin and nail, very disappointed.

The worst manicure I have ever had in 38 years of getting them!!. Brought my friend. She is extremely disappointed too. Dry manicure..its day no. 2 and our nails are chipping. My Cuticles are ragged as before...they dont clip with trimmers- said its against the law. I would not step foot in this facility ever again.
