I love the wooden spoon. They have all the best tools for the home cook at reasonable prices, and the team always is super helpful if you have any questions. At this point, I hold off on buying any cooking materials until I’ve checked with them first.

My boyfriend, two of our friends, and I had a great time tonight at Wooden Spoon. We booked the Korean class and our instructor, Scott, did a wonderful job. The class was very informative and engaging. Everyone had the opportunity to participate and ask questions. Scott did a nice job of distributing tasks among the participants (12 in total) and ensured everyone remained aware of what was going on. Details were shared about the ingredients and how to use them properly. We will definitely be returning for another class.

I LOVE The Wooden Spoons’ selection and staff. Sean & Trina have great insights on how to maximize your dollars when outfitting your kitchen. Having rediscovered a love of creating special moments with home cooked meals with family, I am SO APPRECIATIVE of their service and great products.

The Wooden Spoon is everything you hope to find in a local small business: personable, knowledgable staff, incredible selection, and above-and-beyond service. Each time Ive stopped in--whether by appointment after hours or just popping in to grab something--Sean and Trina have made me feel like I am not only the most important customer in the store, but also part of The Wooden Spoon family. Sean takes the time, while sharpening my knives, to show me how best to maintain the blade, so I dont need to come in and have them sharpened as often. Meanwhile, Trina is doling out tips and tricks about various items of cookware/bakeware that even the most attuned amateur chef wouldnt know. Sometimes the recommendation is you dont need this, which adds a level of trust not often found these days. The Wooden Spoon is as good as it gets!

I’ve taken 2 other cooking classes in Chicago and had high expectations for the pizza making class since this was the most expensive one. For $75/person I expected that we would make own own dough, have our own little station and have the ability to put our own ingredients on the pizza. I didn’t pay to watch other people cook (not enough ingredients / work to go around). This class isn’t very individualized or unique in any shape or form, save your money!

Great local store for baking and cooking supply needs. Does not carry any edible goods, like ingredients, but has a wide array of utensils, tools, pots, pans, and more. Very helpful service and everything is very high quality for a reasonable price.

Fun pizza and comedy class! Our wood oven pizzas turned out to be delicious. They premade the dough to save time. All we had to do was roll out the dough and put different toppings on it. The owners were nice people.

We took our children here for a cooking class as a Christmas gift. We had a good experience; however, we were made to feel rushed the whole teaching time. The teacher would come around and start measuring etc. for us because she wanted us to get to the eating time. But making the food was more fun then the actual eating part. In addition, we only got to measure one portion of the five course meal. Then we got to finish what someone else started... that was it. The whole time it was, hurry, hurry. hurry. We paid a ot of money to be hurried. The meal was amazing; however, they use a very cheap cut of steak. It wasnt a total washout, we did have fun, but would not return.

I had been looking for a place to host private cooking events and was so excited to find a place in Andersonville so, I stopped in as I read they host events and cooking classes.I introduced myself and explained my company wanted to host events to engage the home chef. We want to do demos that utilize the Instant Pot and Pressure Cooking for those who want to learn how to make fast and wholesome meals. I said that I had about 25 people interested. Trina Sheridan, one of the co-owners looked at me with near disgust... she said we dont sell Instant Pots, I said that was fine -- I have one to use as a demo and most people would bring their own, which was the point. She said she had heard of the Instant Pot and they sold for $99 on Amazon. To which I replied, yes... and sometimes more. Its a huge trend. She seemed rather put off by the appliance and the whole idea.I said that this was a new way to engage people who want to cook and many would most likely want to purchase knives and items they sold in their shop. I assured her I was NOT there on behalf of Instant Pot or trying to sell them anything... I just wanted to host events where people can learn how to cook and have a fun new experience. She glanced at her colleagues as if I was taking up her time and space. I asked if I had somehow offended her... perhaps such an appliance was not something in-line with what they do -- which would have been fine, but she looked at me as though I had asked about hosting an animal sacrifice! Then, she looked at the clock and I asked if there was a better time for me to stop by to inquire about rates? She said she had to pick up her daughter and told me to leave my business card so she could think about it.She can think all she wants. Ive never had an experience walking into a small neighborhood shop -- or frankly anywhere and being treated in this manner. They were so incredibly rude. I can understand if they didnt want to host this type of cooking party, but to dismiss someone who wants to patronize your store is shocking.I always try to support local shops rather than large stores or chains and this is clearly a store I would never recommend nor set foot in again.P.S. I did find a fabulous new place who welcomed our idea and guests and we will be hosting our events starting in the spring.

The customer service here is some of the worst I have encountered at any business. My girlfriend and I booked a cooking class as a Christmas present for her parents. Unfortunately, a last minute death of a close friend on the day of the class meant that they could not attend on the scheduled date. Her father called to see if a transfer date was possible and was told no. As a policy, refunds can only be done 7 days in advance. No refund was requested, he simply inquired about a date change. There was no alternative solution or sympathy offered. My girlfriend then called and explained the situation. She was told that they get the death line all the time. A bit taken aback, my girlfriend offered to provide proof if necessary and she was told that they didnt care and the policy was the policy. She then requested to speak to someone else on the phone as the assosciate was not being helpful. His reply was There is no one else. I am god.We were both stunned at how rude, disrespectful, and completely discourteous the associate was on the phone.Based on service alone, I cannot in good conscious ever recommend the Wooden Spoon to anyone and would recommend avoiding it at all costs.
