We took an intro lesson. They offered several packages afterwards via email. We chose the smallest package via email, 5 classes, about $700 and they emailed us back “we’re not the dance school for you.” Based on our intro class and email correspondence, this business has a culture of snobbery and elitism. Even thought we only took one lesson, I noticed the instructor talked excessively (We never complained during the lesson. We were quiet and polite). The lesson is 45min, but we danced 20 - 25 minutes. I have a hunch they will talk away your time to keep you buying lessons. We will never know though bc $700 wasn’t enough money for them. The weird thing is maybe we would have paid for more classes, if after five we felt like we needed it, but they never gave us a chance. I wonder if it is because we are people of color or they assumed we are poor?

This location felt a little small sometimes when there were other lessons but more than made up for it by being right on top of Fulton Market! We would regularly turn our lessons into date nights given all of the dining options nearby.

My wife and I decided we wanted to have a choreographed first dance for our wedding. We tried out a few places and decided to go with Ballroom Dance Chicago. They really made us feel comfortable for two people that had not done any real dancing for a few years. Our instructor was Cathy and she really made the whole process a blast. It was definitely one of my favorite parts of wedding preparations and of the wedding itself. I would highly recommend Ballroom Dance Chicago for their laid back, approachable attitude and their absolute professionalism.

We took lessons at the Fulton Market location, for our first dance, and were lucky enough to be paired up with Angela. We chose a more upbeat song, Luther Vandross, Never Too Much, and were nervous about being able to dance to it. Angela not only put our fears to rest, but also brought genuine excitement to each and every session. She tactfully added on skill after skill every lesson, making sure we were comfortable and confident along the way. She helped us to video each move we learned so that we could also successfully practice at home, as we took lessons about 2 weeks apart from each other. Angela was a dancing wizard, and friends complimented us on our skill after our wedding. We can’t thank her enough for not only helping us prepare for our first dance, but also in giving us dance skills that we’ll be able to use for a lifetime.

She was so fun to work with and really helped us make our vision come to life. She taught us the basics, gave us fabulous choreography to the old-school swing classic we picked, and made the whole process a blast! Lydia is so knowledgable about all things dance! My husband and I were gifted dance lessons before our wedding. Lydia was patient and as a knack for making the lesson easy and fun for us to learn. Ive taken lessons at BDC for awhile now, but at their lake view location, and just recently started calling their west loop loft my home studio. I love the atmosphere and that its surrounded by all sorts of great restaurants!I cant recommend this place highly enough. Definitely the best dance lessons in the city.

My soon-to-be wife Julie and I received three private lessons from my sister and brother-in-law as a Christmas gift. At first, we kind of laughed about it because neither of us knew anything about dancing. But we wanted to take advantage of the gift so we set up a private lesson. We ended up getting paired with John and truly enjoyed the first lesson. We learned some basic steps and our goal of the sessions was to not just do the simple sway for our first dance at our wedding. Well, one lesson led to another and we ended up buying 5 more private lessons with John because we loved it as a date night. Somehow, John ended up turning our whole first dance into a choreographed routine that we are truly excited about. He was able to teach two people that knew nothing about dance a routine that included some swing and some foxtrot. It was a bittersweet moment when we gave John the last hug before our wedding day. Because of this, we are looking forward to setting up some more time at this studio to try out some group lessons and do a few more private lessons. Overall, the experience far exceeded our expectations. We learned a lot and the whole staff was super friendly and accommodating. I cannot give this studio enough praise and will look forward to returning!

Weve been taking lessons for two years due in large part to the welcoming, romantic atmosphere cultivated by Matthew and all the other instructors at BDC. What started at prep for our wedding continues as a weekly date night for us to do something fun and challenging together. Were thrilled to see a new, convenient location for Chicagos best dance studio!!

We had seven lessons for our (wedding) first dance with Pelin. Overall, we had a great experience with Ballroom Dance Chicago. Initially, we were paired with another instructor with whom we really did not vibe and who pressured us into buying 3x the number of lessons we actually needed and who was not particularly well at explaining anything to us. We contacted the company, and they immediately re-paired us with a different instructor, Pelin, who was fantastic. Each time, Pelin would teach us 1-2 new moves, and it appeared that she was very thoughtful about which moves would actually fit into our dance. She was always positive/encouraging and made us feel comfortable. My husband said that he actually misses our lessons, and he is not typically willing to go onto the dance floor with me! We would recommend Ballroom Dance Chicago, but specifically, we would recommend Pelin.

Jumping into a new dance studio can be intimidating but I felt entirely at ease here. You won’t be expected to take yourself too seriously. The instruction is clear and the people are friendly. Matthew understands that people come in to have fun while learning. The Loft studio space is also in a fun neighborhood with plenty to do before or after class. You’re missing out if you haven’t been.

We came in here with zero dancing background and ended up learning a new life-long skill as well as an AWESOME first dance for our wedding. The instructors take the time to listen and tweak their style to each individuals learning style. Along with knowledgeable and friendly instructors, we had FUN! Weve taken lessons at their Ravenswood location for three years with Cathy, Lydia, and Matthew. All are excellent teachers, fine dancers in their own right, and lovely human beings. Theyre very patient and lessons with them are relaxed and fun.

BDC is great! The loft is nice for a more intimate feel but same great lessons no matter which location you choose.

Great and attentive staff. The classes are easy to follow and are led at a comfortable and not too slow of a pace.

Full disclosure: before setting foot in the studio I wasnt sold. Im pretty confident, but this new experience had me a little uneasy - and it had my husband REALLY uneasy:). It took about 1 minute after wed arrived to feel completely comfortable and like wed been coming there for years. The instructors really know their stuff and are super easy going. I never felt judged or put on the spot, and every time were there we always have a really fun time - even my husband loves it! Theres something nice about forgetting everything else thats happening in life and just dancing with people you really like.Ive heard horror stories about other dance studios in Chicago, but all of the BDC locations are really nice and convenient to get to. Super clean, comfortable, and welcoming - you cant go wrong. Ive made friends here and will continue to send friends to BDC knowing full well its the best in Chicago and that they will get their moneys worth (and more)! Totally recommended to get moving a little bit, laugh a LOT, meet some great people, learn some sweet dance moves, and be apart of an establishment that is clearly well run. So glad we took a chance on BDC!
