An amazing place full of amazing people. If you want your child to grow academically, socially intellectually and emotionally, you need to look at this school. The Faculty is incredible. Its a diverse welcoming community. I have two graduates who had their choice of high schools. But more importantly, Ancona helped them become confident, informed citizens of the world. And, there is financial aid available.

A special place for children and parents alike. I sent my two children there for K-6. Dedicated, flexible, child-focussed teaching. Appreciation for creative skills as well as analytical talents. Solid academics. Spanish, music, art, fitness, athletics included. Interesting after-school programs at a great price. Best of all, they instill confidence and compassion in their students. And its fun. I cant remember a single day in 9 years that my kids werent excited to go to school. Finally, a strong track record of outplacement to selective CPS programs and private schools. If you go visit, realize the building is not fancy. Ancona puts the money where it matters most.

My two children have thrived at Ancona. Students get an outstanding education with a rigorous curriculum, but the values are what really set Ancona apart. Since its founding, Ancona has been dedicated to diversity and committed to social justice. It is a beautiful place and we are forever grateful to be a part of this community!

Ahmad Starks, my only child, attended Ancona from pre-school through 8th grade (1995-2006). I remember well the first parent-teacher conference when Ahmad was only 3 years old. Leading up to that day, I had asked Ahmad every day what he did in school. His response was always, I played. As a parent, I was concerned until I observed his behavior at the parent teacher conference and reviewed the report prepared by his teacher. Ahmad had embraced the Montessori teachings and was absorbed in a learning activity during the conference. Mrs. Fords detailed report revealed a clear, concise understanding of Ahmads academic strengths, even recognizing specifically the support and preparation he received at home (lots of educational games and toys). For the first time I realized Ahmad was having fun learning every day at school. He started crying if he was not allowed to stay a full day - so we upgraded quickly from a half day to a full day of pre-school. That was only the beginning of understanding the joy of learning that an Ancona education provided. From there the teachers supported my sons obsession with the game of basketball with every major project and most writing assignments until he graduated from 8th grade. Now, at 25 years of age and a professional basketball player, Ahmad still credits Ancona for laying the foundation for his academic accomplishments that allowed him to pursue and excel at Whitney Young High School and D1 colleges (Oregon State University and University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign). Ancona, well done!!! Proud parent, Alisa Starks
