My 9-year-old daughter has been taking violin lessons at Cincinnati Music Academy since she was 5 years old. She has been most fortunate to be under the tutelage of Greg Noland, the director of strings at CMA, using the Suzuki method of learning. Along with being a master of all things string, Greg is a guru at teaching the Suzuki method. He also has the patience of a saint, providing encouragement, reinforcement, reassurance, praise, and inspiration when the going gets rough. Greg is a consummate professional and stays in continual communication about schedules and breaks and follows up immediately with any and all questions I have ever had. He is very flexible with his schedule, allowing for changes in the dates and times when conflicts occur.Along with weekly private lessons, Greg also offers group classes so the students can play violin together with others who are at the same level of learning. Throughout the year, the students have solo recitals and group recitals. One fabulous opportunity that is offered is a Group Play-In which has been held at Walnut Hills High School. This is a program where Suzuki students from the entire Tri-State area of all different playing levels are invited to get together and participate in an awe-inspiring concert. It is kicked off with an amazing performance by all the Suzuki teachers. It has been a joy to watch my daughter’s progress over the past four years and have the privilege of knowing Greg Noland and watching him work with my daughter and her fellow students.

Being taught piano by Amy Immerman has been one of the best things in my life. Amy is a remarkable teacher and person. I started taking lessons from Amy at age 70, and she has made playing the piano my favorite hobby. At every lesson I learn a myriad of things that one could not learn from self-taught books. She is incredibly knowledgeable and and willing to patiently share everything she knows. On top of all that, she is a wonderful and interesting person. I would give her an A++++ rating.

During this time Joel taught me many advanced skills and was very patient while I was learning. Do to unforeseen circumstances I had to halt my lessons but hope to go back and learn from Joel in the future. I would recommend any guitarists of all skill levels to check out this studio as it has taught me a lot of guitar skills that I can expand on in the future.

I’m 68 and have no musical talent, but I did have a realistic goal to learn some level of piano when I retired. So with that in mind I found Amy,,,, who I found to be kind, smart, compassionate & followed my leads and needs. And we had fun (she never laughed at me, only with me :) learning to get fingers and brain to cooperate. So, while I definitely I can’t speak to learning Brahms or Rachmaninov, if you need a teacher for a new challenge, Amy is as good as they get.

I’ve been studying piano with Amy Immerman for several years in both private lessons and in group classes. I can’t say enough about her skills in both settings. She’s especially good at meeting the student where they are - whether at a beginning level or more advanced. Amy has taught me *how* to practice, and as a result, my playing had improved considerably. As a bonus, she regularly hosts events at the studio where students can play for each other (always volunteer, no pressure) which is a great way to work through public-playing nerves with a super forgiving audience!

She invests time and effort in understanding the students, their strengths, interests and carve out the lessons and practice plans individualized to each student. Her focus is always on helping students to enjoy playing while trying to play the best they can, and we really like that about her methods. I never actually got started because the teacher, James Loughery, was elusive about his policies. It was very confusing because he said you dont pay per lesson, you pay monthly, and you dont get a specific number of lessons. There might be breaks, cancellations, but no set calendar. He was also slow to respond and didnt seem enthusiastic about taking more students. I tried to get started with lessons and he didnt seem to care about responding or setting something up. My son, Ian, has been taking guitar lessons with Joel Greenberg for about 9 months now and I cant say enough about how invaluable it has been! I only wish we would have started with Joel sooner! After his junior year in high school, my son found his passion and decided he wanted to go to college for jazz guitar. He had been playing for a few years, but hadnt had a lot of formal training and knew he had a long way to go to get where he needed for auditions. We signed Ian up with Joel over the summer. Joel was really was instrumental in preparing Ian - having gone through the college experience on guitar himself, he knew exactly the things Ian would need to work on and he pushed him to get there. His lessons were very focused and gave Ian the right tools and skills to get him where he needed to be. Ian had lessons with other instructors in the past, but this was different. Ian had to put the work to get there and it wasnt easy, but Joel really made all the difference in helping him focus on all the right things. In February, audition day finally arrived and Ian felt prepared, although nervous. He said he couldnt have done it without the lessons. We found out a few weeks later, he got accepted into the program he wanted!! We couldnt be happier - the results speak for themselves! We very highly recommend Joel Greenberg and the Cincinnati Music Academy!

Once I started to teach myself Barre chords I realized I was in over my head. I immediately found a teacher. Joyfully paid for three months of lessons. Showed up and quickly found out the guy was not as advertised. He was unorganized a poor communicator and even a worse teacher. Frustrated I didn’t even go to the last two months of paid for lessons. Went back to teaching myself. That wasn’t working out so well. Back to google and another misstep. As they say third times a charm. I called CMA and within a day Max reached out to me. We met and he seemed like a good fit. Ten years later and I continue to benefit and grow weekly under Max’s watchful eye. He is always prepared, organized and professional. He is one of those rare teachers that recognize me, as an adult student, who is pursuing a hobby, not a career. He understands that practice sometimes must give way to that pesky full-time paying job and he willingly does “refresh” lessons, as need . . . sometimes more than once.Under his guidance, I feel my technique on the violin has improved and there has been a remarkable change in the quality of sound when I play; he is helping me find my confidence. His excitement for his craft is infections. It’s heard when he plays, but also in the charismatic way in which he conveys the feeling and dynamics of a piece.I also participate in a string quartet and we see Greg on a monthly basis for coaching. He brings the same excitement and charisma to those sessions as well. Our daughter, Jessica Lawrence, is a student of David Urbon (Voice) and Eric Carr (Acting). Her experience with CMA has been nothing less than stellar. Both David and Erin cater to the entire person, not just in artistic development, but also acting as Teacher, Coach, Sounding Board and Critic. Make no mistake- your child will work to earn their growth at CMA. The staff is focused, dedicated, and highly successful in bringing all of the potential out in their students. We just couldnt be more pleased with the experience, and after a successful Musical Theater BFA College Audition season Jessica is on her way to the next step in her career. We are proud to say that David and Erin were critical contributors to her growth and achievements.Bill & Carolyn Lawrence

My 9 year old is taking violin lessons from Greg Noland. He is professional in what he does but also understands how to work with younger students.
