This school is great I attend and the chances we have to work in shop class every day is nice. The teachers are all great and realy care about the students they are teaching. Its a fantastic school that has high morals and even had a character class to improve it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone wondering where to go.

The school is good i go here but the staff is super rude and they get you in trouble for nothing. You tell somebody something is going on with another student or yourself and they dont do anything. They punish kids for nothing but then when a student actually needs a punishment they dont do anything. For example a kid at the school fought another kid and barely got in trouble but a kid who witnessed the fight was accused of being in it and got 17 hours of detention. The school and the useful trade they teach you is perfectly fine but the students are terrible and the staff IS NOT great.Thank you for your time.

I love this school the teachers are all great . People say their rude or mean but they aren’t they just care for the students and the students should be more patient with the teacher and follow the rules, and if there’s something wrong or something you don’t agree on you can talk with them. The teacher are all hardwork and strive to make all of their students the best they can be . I recommend coming to the school because it’ll show you a whole new point of you.

I would give it a 3 and a half I went to the school last year, I know what the principals idea is to have an environment to have the kids working with hands on kinda stuff. Yes I loved the idea. But in my opinion I believe that they should of stayed a small school till they got everything together. So with this being said I would recommend the school but of course all schools will have there little drama here and there.

I attended James Irwin Charter High School from 2002-2006 before they had some of the advantages that they do now, such as the building where its currently located. I graduated in 2006 with a class size of 49. The one important aspect of this school that I do remember is there is a heavy emphasis on academics and character building that I did not appreciate that as a student but I do now. The high school, when I attended, was very focused on preparing the students for college. The teachers I had while attending there were a mix of fantastic and okay but in any school you will have your ups and downs. I obviously cannot speak to where the school is at now but when I attended it was very much a rigorous environment that taught me more than just how to study and prepare an essay. I am proud to be an alumni of this school.

I have a child in James Irwin Middle school and I LOVE it! As a career Air Force veteran I am so happy with the schools emphasis on growing the whole child and not just whether or not they can meet the State standard for testing! The emphasis on character and leadership is unparalleled. I would recommend James Irwin to any parent that is looking for an outstanding learning environment for their child.

We love JICA! I have had my daughter there for three years now, and she is excelling! The school is run in a very timely and efficient manner, and the teachers seem to really care about the education the children are getting.

We have one daughter in elementary and one in the high school. My wife and I make a point to stay active in our kids lives and involve ourselves at their campuses. We both agree that James Irwin is an excellent school, and are very glad that we found out about it. The fact that the school administration opposes the common core philosophy, and allows parents to have a choice whether or not their children take the government regulated test(s), is a major plus. If you are looking for a school that is setting the bar high in public charter school education, and exceeding scholastic standards in Colorado Springs, then check out James Irwin.

PTEC is an excellent school where academics meets character. Like most experiences in life, one gets out of it what one puts in. We have found that the teachers and staff are excellent and willing to work with parents and kids. A previous reviewer found fault with Mrs. Diaz, where we have found her to be very hardworking and a great teacher. If your child likes to work with their hands, wants to grow up to be a kind adult, and is willing to work to gain a good education, then PTEC would be a great fit.

First off, we are in full support of James Irwin teaching and methods. I believe JICA to be a great school. We were hoping for the same at PTEC, but with an additional 90 minutes per day of vocational training. Love the idea of kids being able to get a great education and to be able to learn trades, thereby defeating the myth that “smart kids go to college, and dumb kids go into trades.” Unfortunately, this school is only perpetuating this myth. At semester, they spent a full week and a half learning nothing new and playing review games for the finals (totally teaching to the test). And the behavior of the students and ability of the teaching staff to control their classrooms is worse than anything I have ever seen. One class was on their 3rd teacher at semester break, as the previous teachers walked out mid class, never to return. I don’t blame them. After several conversations with administration regarding our concerns and no change, we pulled our MS and HS students out, as have many parents this year. There is almost no educational value at this time, and due to lack of good student behavior and poor supervision with power tools, a downright dangerous environment. I sincerely hope that they can remedy the issues at PTEC, as the idea is wonderful, but the execution is downright terrible.

I rate this school a 1 star because I go to school here and 1 of the 6th grade teachers Mrs.Diaz she is mean and not a good teacher also this school is horrible says me and a bunch of other students. It isnt the school that is bad, it is the teachers. Teachers use curse words with students all the time and the students there are really disrespectful, but the teachers and other staff members choose to do nothing about it. There are only a few teachers who want to fix the school and the students behavior. Only the students thinm they can do whatever they want because there is no consequences. I got suspended for tardys, but yet kids write on their work that they wouldnt miss if a teacher died and turn it into that teachers class. I will say the school needs to be better and they are going to lose a lot of really good staff members because of the students and them not getting better consequences especially getting consequences in a propper manner. Not only that, but teachers tell students things that they shouldnt such as the schools buisness and they talk about religion. The schools excuse for it being so uncontrolled and bad is that the school is barely new and they need time. Meanwhile one of the teachers told their class that that was a bad excuse and they are only using it because they dont want to tell people the truth that they cant really control the students in that school. Working with tools is great, but staff uses the money on tereible things when they could and should be using it on better things

We had a TERRIBLE experience with the middle school. It took the school 5 months to get a 504 plan for our child. The environment is SO negative - the staff said that IC is updated by Monday and that NEVER happened. The Dean of Students has NO CONTROL at ALL on the bad kids. They cant stop the bullying and there is a REASON why there is a CONSTANT, HIGH turnover of the staff...... All the crappy neighborhoods nearby with problem kids go there. The bathrooms are GROSS and flood daily. Also, the staff in the front office are SO RUDE to the kids. When my older daughters friend (who had attended James Irwin) heard I was going to put my son there, he said not to because it felt like a depressing prison. I wish I had listened to him. Also, see how many kids move after 6th grade there......... They are GREAT at ADVERTISING but LOUSY at delivering. Worst, demoralizing environment ever.........

I am a parent of JI middle school students. This is our second year at JI. This is the best school experience you can have, but at a cost. Colorado Springs D2 is not known for its quality schools, but JI really stands out as a charter school. My kids LOVE it. Theyre receiving a top notch education from highly skilled teachers. The catch... you must perform well and behave. All of the bad experiences stem from a failure of performance or behavior. Parents need to remember that education starts at home. If a student is underperforming, the fault lies with the parents, not the school. If a student cannot behave, the failure is not the teachers. If you are willing to participate in your childs education and motivate them to succeed, JI is the perfect environment to support your efforts. Your student will come out of JI ready to face the world.
