Thanks to the education we received from National K9 school for dog trainers.... my wife and I have been running a successful dog training camp in Upstate NY for over 24 years. This business is our whole life and has been the most amazing career anyone could hope for. National K9 is an excellent school that will provide you with an amazing foundation to become a professional dog trainer. The facility is amazingly laid out and the instructors are extremely professional and knowledgeable. In this day and age, there is a dog trainer on every street corner....finding a trainer that truly understands dog behavior and has methods to help clients improve their relationships with their dogs is much harder to find. If you want to join that group of professional trainers that really knows what they are talking about and understands dog behavior then this is the school for you. We highly recommend National K9 School for Dog Trainers.Thank you so much NK9 for getting our careers on the right path all those years ago!! We hope to get back to Ohio someday to say hello!

Stay away, very far away from National K9 over on the East side just South of Gahanna next to the freeway. The so called trainer there abused my dog, swinging her around by the metal slip collar and leash a foot off the floor. She had gall to do that in my presence. Who knows how many times she did that to Cinnamon. That dog was ruined to the extent we could not control her mental health. I had knee replacement, the dog again attacked my mom for no reason and I had to call Franklin Co. Dog warden out to put the pup (year old) down. So sad and was unnecessary.

National K-9 has trained our 3 pets over the last 15 years. We researched many programs in many areas, and chose National K-9 from recommendations of friends, and staff and trainer professionalism. We are an active family and love having our pets alongside us for adventures, which National K-9 makes possible. The program is fantastic as the trainers train us as well! Our children were engaged in the training and can confidently handle our boisterous pup. Our most recent trainer was Hannah. We 100% recommend National K-9 and plan to continue with future training programs!

Great experience with this company. They provided a strong foundation for my dog training business. Highly recommend. It is a year and half since I graduated from their 3 week program . I had to put a lot into my dogs post graduation, and lot of work into myself. But, t the foundation I received there has helped me launch. Training dogs and running Canine Good Citizen groups are my niche. Thank you for a great foundation. I hope to return someday for the second half. This is not an easy path, and it is very much worthwhile

The training with Lauren was so awesome! She was very precise, yet very gentle and playful. We drooled over the possibility that our puppy could learn these few commands and she has! We so appreciate the guidance and direction given to us. Highly recommend!

I attended National K9 School for Dog Trainers in February 2019. I attended the 6 week Master Trainer Course and highly recommend this school if you are serious about becoming a dog trainer. It is an investment but the experience and education I obtained in a structured 6 week course was more than enough to jump start training dogs on my own. They make it very clear this is to start you off and you need to follow up education on your own and look into other resources afterwards as theres a million other things to dog training and running your own business. But this course and the materials is worth the money to begin your new career.

Made a huge difference. We were new puppy owners and we enrolled in the puppy preschool. Staff was very helpful and provided tons of useful tips and advice that made a world of difference with our new pup. Received a private consult and three group classes for only $59. After preschool we explored their obedience training options. They offer free consult prior to sign up. Trainer went over options and we were able to think it over before sign up. Trainer was very professional and answered all of our questions and concerns. We did one of their residency training plans. We were a little hesitant leaving our pup but were amazed at pick up after two weeks. It was a new dog. The lessons for us afterward were helpful. We now have a dog that listens and is well mannered. The training program was more expensive than some of the other options out there but well worth it. Great experience and highly recommended.

Had a dog trained there through the 10 day program in 2002. He was the best dog I have ever had. Confident, calm and obedient. Moved to Texas for a while, got another dog after he passed and trainers I found there did not come close. Back in Columbus now, have a new pup and going back to get this one trained ASAP. You get what you pay for and the 10 day program was well worth it in 2002, lead to 10 years of a wonderful companion for the whole family. Plan on doing it again with the new pup!

My 3 weeks were very intense, but it was also fun & enjoyable! The instructors & trainers are amazing & go out of their to help you succeed. I did the residency option & it was a definite plus to not have to worry about commuting. The classmates were great. Lots of laughs, some tears of frustration but everyone supported each other. I wish I couldve done the 2nd 3 week option. In one month after leaving the program, I am very close to officially launching my own business & have no hesitations in letting people know where I trained. It was a lot of work & effort, but I would do it all over again!

They only use fear based methods. This can be necessary for SOME dogs but should never be the first option. All modern scientific literature concludes positive reinforcement training works better for dogs.

We did the 10 day residency program and she did amazing with it and she has kept up on her training. We love everything national k9 has given us.

I have a Belgian Mallinois that is now a little over 2 years old. National K9 did his training at 13weeks old. He is absolutely perfect. We looked at a bunch of training places in Columbus. National K9 is the best we found, including price! I will never go anywhere else for training. Our “Charlie “ out shines any dog we come across. National K9 gave my wife and I the tools we need to further Charlie’s abilities. What they have done for us is priceless. I love the fact National K9 does not fall into the social media of very arrogant and ignorant trainers or so-called trainers. I have seen plenty of dogs that have been trained by other trainers in Columbus with very poor results. Also twice as much money. I also love the one on one lessons and I really appreciate the level of perfection they strive for. I would recommend National K9 to anyone that really is a dog lover.

I could write a book about our experience at NK9. I was reluctant to bring in our dog who had been struggling with leash aggression over several years and he was getting worse and worse. Walks brought me anxiety and I became unable to walk him and our other dog at the same time due to his “freak outs” at other people and dogs along the way. We were referred here by a friend and brought him in for a free evaluation. Our trainer spent an hour talking with us and assessing his specific needs. That day she took him on the leash and demonstrated their techniques for training with another dog present. Seeing her work with him that first day convinced us to board him there for 12 (long) days for training. They took wonderful care of him while there. And he learned a TON! We’ve now completed our lessons and can participate in group classes. He can now be around other dogs and behave on his leash! This has been life changing and well worth the time and money not only for us but for him. I’m so glad he can enjoy play time outside again! Highly recommend this place!

Never in my life have I recommended a company so proudly, Im at a loss of words when it comes to the customer service and dedication of this company. My dog had a lot of issues when we adopted him (social anxiety, crate fear, fear of other animals, would chase our cat, wouldnt listen to us, pulled on the leash) I was udderly shocked when I picked my dog up after the the 15 days they kept him (they gave me an extra week on the house because he wasnt up to par after two weeks). He listened perfectly, cuddles with our cat now, is trained off leash now ect.I am say to say things took a turn for the worse after 1 week with him, he stopped listening, starting giving us attitude, hated his cage. He slowly got better and better until yesterday when he took a huge left turn and threw the training out the window. He ripped out of his impact crate (800 dollar aluminum crate) and caused hundreds of dollars worth of damage to my apartment, it became very apperant that his separation anxiety came back and it came back with a vengeance.I called Lauren (our lovely trainer who is very personable, kind and caring to the animals, and is like a dog whisperer), she informed me that we would have to look into further training (great more money to spend right!?), I was worried I would have to pay more, but she informed me that if they had to take him back in it would be no cost me, what company do you know of has Ever sacraficed 1000 dollars worth of services to make sure the customer is happy and not to lose a customer? Not many. They trained me and my girlfriend on how to work with my dog Caine. They showed me EVERY technique they used on him, and even I, being an animal lover and being very sensitive to abuse of animals, would say that the training methods they use are far from abuse. They use positive reinforce, along side training collars. My dog loves working with use even when training because of the affection included with this training methods, so to any of the idiots that have left reviews on here claiming they abuse animals, maybe you should look into it a bit further and not jump the gun.Tldr:This company is fantastic and will work with you in any way possible to make you happy, they care about your doggo and want nothing more than to see you and youre dog happy together, if you need a dog trained come here, hands down

Great experience. Took my shy and nervous rescue there for free pre-traning consult. Trainer was super helpful in helping me to understand how to help my little girl. Did a training program where she stayed for two weeks. What a difference. The included follow up lessons were great and helped me to continue her improvement at home. She is know more social and confident. Staff is great and she goes there for boarding when I go out of town. She loves it there. Thank you National K-9.

We worked with Sarah with our dog Apollo and I couldn’t be happier. Apollo was a very energetic happy dog but definitely was not under control. He has now has become a very well behaved dog and most importantly I learned how to be a better dog owner. We went from chasing squirrels and very bad behavior on walks to nearly off leash in just 4 months. We have more work to do but we are very happy with the results. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking to be a better more confident owner.

We took our german shepherd puppy to national k9 for puppy preschool and 10 day in house training. In regards to the preschool, people need to be aware that the point of this is to socialize your puppy with household items and other dogs and learning basic care for your puppy. If this is your expectation you wont be disappointed. We found it extremely helpful with the preschool and even just the consultation. Our dog was extremely high energy, herding/controlling our smaller dog, crazy play biter who would not sit still for 2 seconds. We put him through the 2 week training with Sarah and we picked up a completely different dog. We are dedicated to our dog but do not feel that we would have been able to get him to the level of discipline that Sarah did. it was worth the money to us and continued success with your dog is based on how much effort you put into them.

We adopted a rescue lab mix in July of 2016. Shortly thereafter, we set up a consultation with National K9. We were told, based on our high goals for our dog (we wanted him to be as behaved as therapy dogs), we would need at least their mid-level training package (5 days in house). After taking out pup to the vet, we found our vets office offered free group puppy classes and decided to try those before contracting with National K9. We experienced great success with basic training (potty, sit, etc.) but decided that we wanted to really hone in on training more than the group classes could provide. Since we had liked the philosophy of National K9, we went there. We paid for an additional consultation. In that $50 meeting, we offered a great deal of information about our dog...any and every concern we could think of, even if they were fleeting concerns. We did share that our dog had exhibited guarding behaviors for high value items. Due to this freely offered info, the trainer then recommended the higher level 10 day package that was significantly more expensive. Upon reviewing their literature and our budget, we found that we could not afford the 10 day program and sincerely felt that our dog would benefit from the 5 day and we could add on some additional sessions for follow up support--or as the literature offered-- start at the mid level 5 day program and upgrade it to 10 if he wasnt responding as well as we hoped. However, when we called to schedule, we were told they would ONLY do the more expensive package. We explained that we would be willing to consider that package but that it was quite a stretch for us and we wanted to begin at the mid level and determine if the higher level was indeed needed. However, we were informed that because our dog had owner-reported behavior problems, this was not an option. We feel that we were penalized for being overly honest about our dog and that the evaluation and referral process were more about making money than helping dogs and owners. The fact that they continually attempted to upsell us and would not allow us any input in what program we could afford or thought was appropriate for our dog is troubling. I would not recommend this facility if you want to have input in your dogs training.

Went to school in 2017, you will get out of it what you put in. There is a wealth of knowledge to learn from and opportunity to observe. The one person said its nothing you cant get from a book, they probably were busy socializing and screwing around instead of learning. I looked at other schools, they teach you how to work with different personalities of dogs, not just one general way to do training. Cant say enough about how they helped me grow as a dog trainer.

This place is well worth the money. I am sure for some it feels like a sales pitch when they bring you in and do their demonstration and show you plans to pick from... but get past that. They give you what you pay for, hands down. We adopted 2 golden puppies, a brother and sister, and loved them dearly but as I am a mom of 6 very active children and run a business of my own I did not have the proper time to train my dogs and they were pulling so hard to go to the bathroom that I was about in tears because it was becoming too much. I am not a dog trainer, I am not the best at accountability for cute puppies staring up at me and I was very tired and dreading the morning bc I knew they would bark and need to potty all while jerking my arm. We chose to do the 2 week training program offered here. After 2 weeks in the training program, I picked up puppies that had manners, that did not tug, that had patience to wait to go potty and that I can actually take now throughout my house without worrying that they will chew on everything and dismiss my voice. They stop and listen. In two weeks my puppies do not counter surf, they behave and listen to NO and pay attention to commands. They love praise and really enjoy being calmly loved. It has made our relationship and the relationship of my puppies with my toddlers and teenagers so much better. The teens actually want to take them on a walk to show them off and the toddlers can cuddle with them as they are calm.Cassie is amazing, she is thorough, very professional and approachable. From what I learned they hand pick their trainers from classes to offer jobs to, so they pick the best of the best. If you want to invest in your relationship with your dog, invest in this company. It is worth it!

I will start by saying that signing up for an evaluation here was one of the best decisions I have made! I cannot say enough good things about this place. One of my dogs has issues with aggression toward people and other dogs. I was starting to consider euthanasia as an option because he has gotten worse with age and would not always listen to me. A friend recommended National K-9 to me so I set up an evaluation. Cassie went through his behavioral history, training methods I had used, etc. She discussed the options of private lessons and residency programs. We started with private lessons and he did very well! Cassie really helped me to be consistent with his obedience training which in turn made me much more confident in handling him. Though his aggression will never be fixed, I now know how to read him and work with him. He is far less reactive toward new people and dogs because he trusts me to decide if a situation is okay or not. If I walked him into the vets office a year ago he would growl, lunge, and bark at anyone in the lobby. Today, I can calmly walk him in a heel past other dogs and people, lay down quietly while we wait to be called back, and he sits nicely while he is examined. Not to be dramatic but I teared up at his latest vet appointment because he had blood drawn for the first time without completely lashing out. He did not growl or move a muscle. I never would have thought he would be this easy to work with. I am so grateful just for this! For the past couple months I have taken another one of my dogs in for private lessons as well. He was very under socialized as a young puppy due to needing extensive crate rest from an injury in his previous home and then corrective surgery for it. He is fearful, aloof, and was difficult for me to train. Cassie again helped me to understand his personality and how to work through his panicky behavior and stubbornness. He is still a work in progress, but now we are starting off-leash training! The results I have seen with him are amazing. My newest puppy is currently in a residency program to work on basic obedience and is doing well.Contrary to some other reviews I have read, I have never felt like I was being pressured to use more expensive options. I have only felt they had the best interest of myself and my dogs at heart. My dogs have never been mistreated here and for me, the results speak for themselves. I would not be the confident dog owner that I am if it werent for the experiences I have had here. Every staff member I have met here has been nothing short of professional, kind, and friendly. I look forward to Cassie and the staff working with any and all of my future dogs.Update: My puppy completed his residency program and came home a brand new dog in the best way possible.

Did the 6 week school. They only teach 1960’s Koehler method of dog training. Very very old school training. They say they will teach a broad range of training methods but really they just tell you why all the other methods are no good and there is only one right way to train a dog. All compulsion training. Be warned these people are master salesmen! To All Paws Inn: I assure you I didn’t “screw around” during my time at National K-9. I take dog training very seriously. I have over 20 years in professional dog trainer and am certified through multiple organizations and have a degree is psychology with an emphasis in learning theory. I have done everything from rehabilitating aggressive dogs to training service dog for a large non-profit. My personal dogs compete as top dogs in the country in obedience, agility, and ring sports. The Kohler method (only thing that National K-9’s teaches) is outdated and abusive. I went to National K-9 and other schools to continue my education. They represent them selves as modern and well rounded, which could not be further from the truth. Once you gain more experience in training and broaden your horizons, you will see what I’m talking about.
