I think the GT program here is amazing, I can give that 5 stars, but outside of the program the school lacks attention to student behaviors and attitudes, with a tolerance for intolerant actions. It is definitely underfunded and does not engage students well to the curriculum (with the exception of the GT program teachers). When learning about the school to prison pipelines the first thing that always comes to mind are the metal detectors at the entrance of the school. I like the art programs they have here but the school has them underfunded. It has been years though so maybe a change in administration or policies have changed some of this.

As a TAG student myself, can certainly say that the school gives a great experience. I joined the program in 7th grade and was given a warm welcome by the teachers- who treat you like family. The standard is great if your looking for a challenge and want to take advanced courses.

My first impression of this school was rude disrespectful and racist. The attendance office woman only respects people of her own color and ignores others that are not. Even those that say good morning to her she wont acknowledge unless they are her color.SO SAD THAT THIS IS WHAT THE KIDS HAVE TO DEAL WITH.I HOPE THE REST OF THE STAFF IS BETTER.update miss Washington is a respectful and kind woman and gave me hope for this school. God be with these kids I feel sorry for them .

This is such a sad school. I really wanted to have a hopeful year for my incoming 6th grader after reading the awful reviews, But, they are all correct. The teachers could really care less about the kids. They spend so much time during class trying to get the bad kids to settle down that the good kids get left behind and they have no time to actually teach. Role call is a joke. If a teacher makes a mistake about your attendance it takes an act of Congress to get it corrected and even then the teacher passes the buck to get it corrected. They didnt even know my childs name!!! The auditorium looks as if it should be torn down and have a complete renovation. Fights on the daily between kids. If you pick up your kid from school you too can witness at least 10 kids ignore a cross walk and STOP TRAFFIC and scream at YOU because you had to make a break necking stop in order to avoid hitting them. If they act like that outside of school, theres no denying they act the same in school. If youre white, find another school. Kids will blatantly call you OBVIOUS names about your skin color in the halls and be subjected to constant bullying. Ive yet to see school pictures and yearbooks for the non tag kids. Its almost January. Save yourself and move or go to a private school. Its just not worth the hassle. DISD, get your act together for the sake of the kids.

Absolutely the worst experience weve ever had - enrolled my daughter as a result of relocation to the Dallas area - the first red flag should have been the bars on all the windows. She was discriminated against and bullied. By day three, she called me the girls bathroom crying, begging me to come get her. She was withdrawn within a week of enrollment - the teachers did nothing.

Well my review is solely based off other students testimony that attend there. Eighth graders said there were fights every single day and typically in eighth grade it got really bad as far as with each other. The teachers are aware but have no sense of urgency to interject. They are probably just there as a 8 to 5 job, there is no real motivation.

So, all the reviews that are 5 stars and 1 stars are wrong. Id say this school is a 3.5 star. I am currently an 8th Grade TAG student. I wont Disclose my name, just enjoy my Google Accounts Name that was made back when Dank Memes were cool.Anyways, When you look at the one star reviews, they mention racism, and bad environment. Now, I believe these people come from a higher socio-economic status than the majority of people who come here. Now that isnt a bad thing, Im just saying. One person even mentioned, go to a private school. That basically cements my theory. Now, these people arent used to obviously a school situated right in the middle of dallas, in a less privileged community. What im saying is, they arent used to this kind of rough environment. I think its completely fine though, just stay clear of fights, dont make jokes that are slightly offensive with the community kids (like seriously dont), and make good friends. Obviously not all community kids are bad, but just stay clear from the bad ones. With a majority of the school kids here being latino, yes, you will be called white. But, most of the time, we just joke around. Im not white, but I do joke with my white friends about them being white, and them joking with me being *AN UNDISCLOSED RACE*.The Five star reviews are too generous. Yes there are a few bad apple teachers, but they are not straight up demons. One kid *Not disclosing his name* did try to Speak up against a certain 7th grade TAG teacher, and ended up nearly expelled. To be honest, he was lying to the teacher occasionally, and just being a pain to the teacher, but also the teacher did overreact a little bit. I love a lot of the teachers such as Mr.King (not a TAG teacher any more), Ms. Sullivan (7th Grade TAG reading), Mr. Burr (7th Grade Texas History), Ms.Tims (TAG coordinator and 8th grade reading TAG teacher, and Mr. Anderson (7/8th science TAG teacher).Of course, that was all information for kids, Here is some info for the parents. The TAG course is usually one year above normal schools (same as William B. Travis), and we sometimes take STAARS one year above our normal grade. In 8th Grade, All Main courses except Reading (As of the 2017-2018 year, idk about 2018-2019) give high school credit. Electives such as Astronomy and Spanish also give High School credit. Many of Spences courses try to incorporate technology. Some projects may be making a powerpoint slide, etc. Nothing too crazy. The only required courses are the Main 4, and 1 semester of technology, and two of P.E/LCC.
