I have been associated with the Ju-Do Kai since the late 1960s, and have seen a progression of the best instructors and leaders in the martial arts arena. The club has always valued the statement ... enter as a friend, leave as family. This is still alive and well in the current enactment of the club ... and many of my closest friends are part of the Ju-Do Kai family. The students are dedicated and the sensei is awesome, as well as being fully integrated with the strongest and most harmonious part of our community. I hope you enjoy training with this group.

I began training in DanZan Ryu Jujitsu at the Davis Ju-do Kai more than 20 years ago and came up through the ranks with the current sensei. Although I moved away from DJK and started my own dojo, I have remained connected to DJK and its sensei and have observed the excellent work they have done in both building jujitsu skills and promoting a supportive and caring community. Kokua (being helpful with no thought of return) is a fundamental principle of DanZan Ryu Jujitsu and Sensei Conover and all of the instructors are sincere practitioners of this.It is unfortunate that someone with such a limited and judgmental understanding of a difficult situation (that they were not any part of) has chosen to lash out against the dojo and attempt to dissuade others from checking out the classes. Sensei Conover is a compassionate and talented teacher with a robust and generous history of service. I am sure you will experience that in the classes, students, and all of the sensei when you visit.

If you are interested in pursuing martial arts like Danzan Ryu style judo, I highly recommend looking elsewhere. This dojo used to be a wonderful place to train but has deteriorated under new management/ownership. I was a student here for over a year before I left following the transition due to instructor misconduct. Verbal and physical harassment occurred multiple times by teachers. When confronted, the head of the dojo (Jessica Conover) attempted to cover up the misconduct instead of addressing the behavior. Unfortunately this dojo is no longer a place where all students are treated as equals worthy of respect, and I do not think it would be a good training environment for new students.

Multiple friends have attended. Stories of poor instruction. Lots of personal drama between instructors and students. One of the newer reviews makes personal attack at a negative review. No thanks.
