My experience with this location has been frustrating and expensive. I signed a contract, and then COVID hit. There was no communication about zoom classes or any outdoor classes. I had to wait out the contract, but the WORST part is the charges they took out of my account after my contract expired. $150 for two months out of contract despite me calling several times and being assured that it was over in June and no more charges were going to hit. Master Johnson said that there was nothing he could do about a refund because his billing company took it out and the cancellation was by phone, so no document. It has been a terrible experience and I will be seeking further action. Please be very aware of your business interactions and have EVERYTHING in writing. I have never had money not refunded for an activity I had canceled and did not wish to continue.

We had a bad experience and question the ethics of this company. We felt we were tricked into a 18 months contract when we had agreed on 12 months. Still we did pay to the end even though our son wasnt attending classes for the last 6 months. They continued charging our card after the contract even tough we have a proof email that requested the contract not to be renewed. I had to put a stop on our card. They refused the reimburse us for the overdrawn money. Mr. Johnson was not professional in his answers and in the way he treated us. I do not recommend this place.

STAY AWAY THIS PLACE!!!!,Their focus is money, money, money!!!Initially, spoke with Master Johnson and he is very nice. He sounded very accommodating and convince me to sign up my 2 children. At that time, he did not tell me any detail. After 1 month, my 7 and 5 y/o don’t like and does not want to resume. When I called for cancelation, he told me this is 18 MONTH contract and i need to continue to pay until 11/2020.I told him this is not what I was informed initially. I told him this is never like this for any kid of membership. Especially, we are talking children that they explore things. He did not help at all. I ask think about your self as a patent, is this what you want to get, again no empathy.They seem to be wolves in sheep clothing. PLEASE, PLEASE FIND ANOTHER PLACE. DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT THIS PLACE.

Love this place! I feel like it’s my second home sometimes. Everyone is so engaging and really forms great relationships with the kids. They teach a very positive message while at the same time teaching the kids karate. I would recommend this studio to anyone.

Very unhappy with the ethics of the place, the coach comes out like a nice guy and basically tricked us by convincing us that our 8 year old could make his own decision on joining in by showing him Few swords and martial arts equipment, convincing him that he will be using them and be good at it soon, we were basically railed in!!! During the training session my son was lost and wasn’t placed with his skill’s group which he didn’t learn anything during his time. I think he relies on big fake smiles with the parents to keep them happy, but there are far more places that provide much better quality training that this place does...just be careful signing up with them, you will be locked in a contract and will be held responsible for the entire contract...even if you weren’t happy with the service!!! They will lie to you and your signature will cost you the premium...honest advise From experience just look for another martial art school.

CONTRACT TRAP, STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!After 4 years of being a loyal client they wouldn’t work with me in the last 2 month of the contract due to Covid-19!! They closed the place and switched to online classes and that isn’t working for us at this time and we didn’t initially sign up for virtual classes!! I contacted instructor For the location from location and he advised there are two months in my contract and after that I can cancel. I tried to explain there are only two months left of 4 years, but he said (verbally) “yes i can cancel the contract but I wouldn’t do it!”At this point I couldn’t continue the conversation anymore with that mentality or the attitude!They have no empathy and they didn’t even try to keep a loyal customer through the difficult time from business perspective.Covid 19 is the time where you can see how businesses handle their clients and employees!! They teach courtesy But have no courtesy whatsoever during this tough time on everyone !!It is sad that they chose 2 months worth of money versus a loyal client who once considered this place family!!I trusted this place with my son for 4 years and I was wrong, this place has no values or principles to teach your kids, it’s all blah blah blah to get your money. That’s all!DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT THIS PLACE.

I have being trying to cancel the service for a while now. they dont respond on phone, the location is closed. I have sent emails for which there is no response. They are instead charging month on month. this is ridiculous and it feels like getting into a black hole. Join this at your own peril.

This place is fantastic for children to learn martial arts! The instructors are engaging with the children and teach them not only martial arts but life skills. I have already seen a difference in my child behavior in just a short time. Master Johnson is a great leader and teacher. We are thankful for the school and blessed to have found it.

My son started at TONCHU Decatur over a year ago. Master Johnson and the instructors are skilled, kind and invested in the kids success. My son has gained confidence and is learning life skills - discipline, respect and how hard work and practice lead to improvement in class and on the sparring team. Great experience!

TONCHU is great! They have done a great job taking over this location. My son is becoming stronger and more confident daily. Great for girls and boys with great patient instructors and fun as well as disciplined. Highly recommended!!!!

Both of my children attend class at this location. They love it so much that we try to take them every day they are open. The teachers are so passionate and really connect with the kids. There is a behavior checklist that parents fill out before each class that used to help support discipline at home. We have seen huge improvements in behavior since starting this program. The kids really respond to the energy, encouragement, and advice of their teachers.

We definitely love this place... TONCHU MARTIAL ARTS has definitely helped our son with self control and respect.... Only a year in and we feel like family.... looking forward to see what the future hold for us.... SHOUT OUT TO MASTER JOHNSON AND HIS TEAM!!! (DECATUR LOCATION) GOSU!!!!!🥋

I started martial arts at Tonchu about 9 months ago and it has changed my life. Master Johnson and the other instructors are invested in each and every students success. They are patient, supportive, and above all, understanding! At the same time, they push you to be the best person that you can be inside and outside of the academy. Tonchu is one of the best martial arts schools in Atlanta. I definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested!

I only went here for a birthday party, but they were great with the first grade boys and girls. Patient, fun and opened their eyes to something new.

Tonchu Martial Arts is a fantastic school. My two sons started nearly a year ago and I have been consistently impressed. The instructors are highly dedicated not only to training the kids in martial arts but also to teaching the importance of perseverance, hard work, courtesy and respect. Well I enjoyed working with them as The Rhino mascot the party was fun. But I hate it when this location closed down. I really enjoyed being the mascot and bought lots of kids joy and happiness. It was nice to meet other peoples when I was out of the costume. I,m going to miss you all.

This is an amazing martial arts academy!! The instructors are great and they are very experienced and well versed in all aspects of martial arts. But thats not all, in addition to teaching the students about kicks and punches, they teach hard work, discipline, respect, good behavior, confidence and concentration in all aspects of their lives. Belts are not given based on participation, they are earned. I send two of my sons there today and cant wait until my third son is old enough to start his training. The tonchu program is truly first class in all aspects. Thank you for all that you guys are doing for my boys! As we say at the school TONCHU GOSU!!!!

Tonchu Decatur ( spoke with Master Johnson). Sounds very sincere but was not clear at the time of signing and I did not even get the chance to review the back of the form at signing..... which listed all the pertinent details ..... please do a better job of describing the commitment you are asking them to make before they sign. ( I made obvious comments now looking back which indicated I did not know it was an ‘18 MONTH CONTRACT’I am not sure I can even give this company a 1 out of 5. They seem to be wolves in sheep clothing . I signed a contract and to be honest was not clear on all it entailed. All of the the activities I have had my kid in; I never had a problem with a monthly cancellation... I feel so naive but had no idea what he now described was what I signed. At times information can feel incomplete or just overwhelming . To have a new comer sign an 18 month contract is just bizzare so I did not even come to that thought. After signing I called the next day to tell them that that my family can’t really afford it ( I had not used his service and still my son have not , just the trial) ...( also my son was really not very thrilled about it when we spoke the night after the trial, Master Johnson just seemed like he would be a good instrctor ) As a new person to the martial arts world , there should be a clearer description of all that it entails . I had no idea I was signing up for 18 months contact vs. an 18 month plan : for a kid who has never had martial arts . However, I know believe I should make it a point to let everyone know don’t be bambuzzled.... They give unreasonable contracts for new comers where only death , Heath problem or moving can alter ( found this out 04/08/2019) .... I am just flabbergasted at this especially when it comes to kids .... if you are new to the sport start with a three month contract or so and then make a greater commitment after ....it is truly seems like a money making scheme.....

I have been a student at Tonchu Decatur for almost 9 months. I recommend Tonchu to everyone I know. All the instructors care about me and my growth as a person and a martial artist. I looked at other schools around Atlanta and I didn’t have a positive experience. All I had to do was walk into Tonchu Decatur and I knew this was the place for me. They are understanding of my medical diagnoses and my school schedule. I have truly found a family at Tonchu and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Everyone thinking about doing martial arts should consider only one school and that is Tonchu Martial Arts!

My son was very spoiled and had never been in anything as physical and strenuous and started off not listening or responding but after several personal workouts in the midst of regular he has really responded and picked up quickly. I am really pleased with the Tonchu Martial Arts program. My boys are really excited about going to the classes and learning great forms and great discipline. Johnson Kosinim (spelling?) and Crosby Joganim (spelling?) are great with the students and make them work really hard to earn their ranks. No handout belts here! I hope to see all of the students that want to grow, flourish!

Tonchu has been the best for my child. The instrutors are wonderful and you feel like family. They have taught her so much confidence and focus that she is now more focused in school and is doing very well. Thank you soooo much and i look forward to continuing her black belt journey.

Great Place For Kids & Adults! Highly Recommended

We moved here from out-of-state six months ago and after looking around chose Tonchu to continue our taekwondo journey. We came from a different taekwondo organization and Tonchu happily worked with us to place us appropriately. My daughters, 10 & 12, and I have been taking classes here for over 4 months now and are so happy about our decision! The sparring and forms are fun and we really enjoy learning the weapons!
