Great self defense school. I’ve been coming here for almost 15 years and have trained at other places as well. The skills learned here equip you more for real scenarios than other places.

This is definitely a place to bring your little ones too! I have been saying for a while how much Id like my son whos 5 to join a karate class. I really thought it would give him the skills to be more patient, aware and learn how to be a good sport! It did all of those three things.His teacher has mentioned to me his focus in school, and learning to stay still has improved! It really was a great choice! The facility, I love that its a comfortable and cozy place. I am able to bring my 1 year old. The teachers are all awesome and super enthusiastic with the kids ! Its great!! The schedule is also a great time for us and they are flexible with how many classes you attend as long as its twice a week. And as for the owner Jerry! He is great! He really cares about the kids and makes you feel comfortable! I really enjoy watching when he interacts with the kids in a funny manner, the kids all really take well to him! So Id say Try it out!

My daughter has been going to this center for over 3 years. I am pleased with the what she has learned. They encourage positivity and cheering for others. As well as teaching self defense skills. The instructors are all amazing!!! They have patience and work well with the children.

This place is the best. My son started out and he was so shy. This place has given my son confidence, determination and willingness. The way these teachers teach and help all the kids is great. I highly recommend this place!

We came to Makoto a little over a year ago and have loved it. My son enjoys coming every week. The classes are spread across the week and allow the flexibility to come at different times and days based on your child’s age group. Great staff that is super encouraging and dedicated. I love that they focus on giving all students an opportunity to learn in a safe environment. The classes focus on manners, technique and having fun. I highly recommend for all ages.

My son Jack has been coming to Makoto for the past 3 years. I have seen some amazing changes in him. He has more confidence and is starting to be more out going. Leadership is helping him find even more of his voice. My second son started over a year ago and after watching his brother in class For 2 years. He was so excited to start and has been just as determined as his brother to try new things. My youngest son participated in the lobby awaiting his turn to start. The teachers are all caring towards all my sons. They know each child by name and help with real life skills, lessons and encourages them each and every class.

Excellent Martial arts school. Jerry and his staff are great teachers and have lots of patience. My son started when he was 4 years old and he is now 7. Not only has it taught my son self defense but it also has taught him to have a positive attitude.

My kids enjoy going to class. My oldest has attended for a few years and he now also partakes in leadership class to help teach the young students. It has helped him grow and apply skills needed to defend himself. He can’t get enough training.

Great friendly atmosphere

My daughter has been coming to Makoto for over a year now. She absolutely loves coming here, so much so, that she wanted to celebrate her 7th birthday party here. The staff and instructors are always amazing, but watching them make her birthday party so special will be something I am forever thankful for. My daughter has tried soccer, dance, tee ball, etc. I always knew that when she found something she really loved she would stick with it... well, this was it, and I could not be happier with her decision.

So far, my son loves it and this is not the first martial arts school he has attended. I was skeptical at first so I got the Groupon to try it out. It’s been a couple of months and he still enjoys attending classes so Mommy and Daddy are happy.

My daughter loves coming here and is part of leadership. She loves teaching and helping out the younger kids. All of the instructors have taught her great skills.

It’s Magic!!! I notice the positive impact it has on my daughter confidence and discipline from just attending a few classes. It’s amazing and I highly recommend it.

This school provides excellent quality training from a lineage of great teachers. I started training jiu jitsu in 2011 and chose to continue my training at this school due to the excellent teaching of Jerry and the group of students training there. The facility is well equipped, maintained well, and everyone is friendly and welcoming. Here you will learn affective martial arts without the fluff, get a great workout and be left with inspiration and confidence from the teaching.

I’ve been attending this school since I was in middle school, and coming from another school, this school was nothing but supportive. They’ve helped me grow as a martial artist and a person and the lessons and discipline I’ve learned will be with me for a long time. I’ve suffered an injury from sports, and this school takes great care so I do not aggravated my injury. Highly recommended.

My son loves coming to Jujitsu. Jason is a great instructor who takes time with our son and has really helped to encourage him to stay focused!

Been training at Makoto for a year now. Have to say the experience has been LIFE ALTERING. Ive been wanting to train in the martial arts for years and could not be happier that I made the decision to begin. My only advice would be if this is something youve wanted to do then take the plunge. You will not be disappointed. As a 46 year old man Im living proof its never to late to start! Out of all the sports my kids do, Makoto Ju Jitsu is hands down the best! Not only do they have fun, they develop many important qualities such as self respect and confidence. I definitely recommend Makoto!

Jerry is a rude obnoxious man.. he acts as if because he knows karate he can bait and pick on anyone.. I would not recommend this place.. save your money or go to a more reputable place. Jerry yells at people and is a out right a hole! Horrible place!!

I’ve been at Makoto Jiu Jitsu for 8 years. It has changed my life drastically. Like Shihan Jerry, I used to be the shy kid. But soon after I joined it helped me learn to interact with others. Also being here taught me respect and discipline as well as of course being able to defend myself and others. I’d recommend this amazing school for children and adults for all ages.

I have been attending Makoto Dojo for a little over a year now. I was not sure if Jiu Jitsu was for me. I am sorry I did not start training years ago and would not train anywhere else. This is not your cookie cutter Dojo. Makoto Dojo is very clean, organized and equipped with a great staff! Sensei Jerry is an amazing instructor, not only with the Physical aspect of Jiu Jitsu, but the psychological mindset needed for total success with all aspects of life staying true to the art. I would definitely recommend Makoto Dojo for adults and children!!!

Absolutely horrible experience, which included a crying and emotional 4 year old and having to explain to my child how some people are just mean and awfulI would most definitely not recommend this placeAnd I feel that this man, Jerry, should be nowhere around children of any ageHe was rude, nasty, and pushy over the phone to get my child in as soon as he turned 4 years old... Including telling me it was a shame I was pregnant and how my son was going to be disappointed... His actual words to meThen when we went, after psyching my son up to get him there, he spent all of a minute and a half with him before saying we should leave and try again in 6 monthsReally??? Shame on himHe talked about how jiu jitsu builds self-esteem and all And then shot my child down immediatelyHe didnt even give him a chance to get warmed up to a stranger who he met for only a few secondsI had to console a crying child who could not comprehend why someone would treat him that way
