Im really at a neutral point when it comes to this school as from one point it has drastically helped me to improve in both comprehension and mathematical skills, and on the other hand it has caused me incredible amounts of stress as result of the excessive strictness and bias that it amounts around certain students. It has suited me better academically then my old school, but overall it can be a depressing place especially if you make the teachers hate you. Ultimately, if you have no social life and are a fan of getting those (exceptional) Straight As then this is the school for you, but other than that you might find a hard time to deal with the oppressive culture and hassle of getting good grades.

I like the school ,most beautiful building a have seen for school .Them interiors are nice also .Very expensive technology throughout school .Great kids .Only think I never seen in any school around the world but here is miniature home works and other paper works with miniature writings ,like somebody dont know how to use printer. Our kids deliberately destroy them eyes on this .Seriously these are written in sizes smaller then 1/16 of an inch .If they need more support from parents on delivering more printing paper ,we are ready again and again .Thank you ,and hope for brighter future on this .

Spent a morning here on a job interview. Entire teaching and admin staff is white and under 40, including the other candidates in my tour group. Observed 2 classrooms. The classroom management is neurotically robotic. And while the teachers talk a lot at least 50% of what they say is be quiet or sit up. Saw zero creativity displayed by students in classrooms or on the walls. An expensive baby grand piano sat unplayed in the lobby with a list of acceptable playing on the keyboard. Sports teams are either non-existent or horrible. No extracurricular activities that I heard about except robotics club. Felt more like a factory than a school that students will look back upon fondly. I don’t think they even have dances. Borderline military school run by millennials.

They dont Care about their students. Most of what this school cares about is staying the #1 middle school. They could care less about how their students feel or about the amount of stress they give their students. The amount of homework that their students are given is insane. They say its supposed to take around an hour but sometimes I find myself working late into the night even when I start at a reasonable time. Most nights I get less than 5 hours of sleep. Even though they perform well above the state average, the students are overworked and stressed to an unhealthy level. Only some of the teachers understand how stressed the work can be and the others dont care at all. Lately theyve been trying to address bullying, depression, and suicide but the school doesnt try that hard to stop it. Whenever someone is being bullied most of the staff dont respond in a helpful way. The last thing is how unnecessary the College Preps and Refocuses are. If someone forgets to charge their computer they have to stay for an extra hour after school. This is so unnecessary because every classroom has power strips just so that students can plug in their computers if the battery is running low. If you forget a belt then you have to stay after school to write a 5 paragraph essay about what you did wrong. The staff need to be more understanding about what the students go through. Overall, this school needs to make some serious changes and until then I would suggest not coming to this school.

Teachers are very biased towards students. Miserable, fun sucked out of everything, and Ms. Berg was the only good thing. Also friend was consistently called out for pants that had pockets on the wrong places even though it was only one teacher, there was no rule against it, and he couldnt afford new pants. Shout out to my boi Adam

Dude this school is an actual meme. I have been here from 6th grade and i am now in 8th grade at DSST: Byers. Many students here would agree with me that the teachers here are all arrogant. Also every teacher is biased towards the straight A students. I have many incidents with the school and no justice is applied. Half the kids at this school are depressed because of this school. I am very fed up with this school and every one thinks that this is a great school. But really it is not the number one middle school in Denver.

If you are currently in the process of reading reviews, you should first know that a majority of these reviews are coming from the students at my school. The reason of their negativity being that despite the quality of the education being among the best in the state, the amount of work and effort involved in attending this school is quite burdening and can be a difficult transition especially for those transferring from elementary; the homework here can range from an hour or two to the entire night. The teachers and administrative staff are truly interested in creating the best education for the students here, and the clubs can be an engaging aspect in the middle school experience (given the time of course). So, if you are planning to have your child be involved in many other after school activities, this is not the school for you. However, if you want to teach your child the values of hard work and self discipline you should consider sending him/her here.PS: I am writing this as a student of DSST: Byers middle school currently in my 8th grade year. I have experienced many hardships here including anxiety and having a three hour commute in order to get to my school and back, but if it was one thing that I learned from the strict, albeit sometimes harsh, learning environment is that it is necessary to work hard in order to achieve anything; dreams alone do not change the world.

Overall, this school is very hard on the students and dont handle situations professionally, if at all . Personally, Ive been through many situations of bullying, including, inappropriate name calling during school hours and cyber bullying made by other students. Although my parents and I addressed the problem to the school, nothing seemed to be resolved. I would not recommend any student to attend this school.

I couldnt be happier with this school, DSST Byers! They hold my son accountable and I see the growth in both academics and in his personal life. I cant say enough good things. We need more DSSTs!!! Every teacher that I have encountered has been awesome!

I looked for the best school available and we found it. DSST Byers has an unique and fabulous way to teach. My son is attending for the first time this year. He was a bit afraid but now hes confident and assured after attending mandatory summer school. If mandatory makes you a bit afraid just come and see for yourselves and discover what made me choose the DSST family. My tiny mouse is now a soaring FALCON. Thanks to all the faculty at DSST Byers for giving me a great perspective of what the future generations require to succeed.

DSST: Byers High School is a school where the teachers or staff do not follow through with what you request them to do. We have been trying to transfer my granddaughter out of that school for at least a month now and still have not heard anything back from any of the staff at that school. The school does not handle teaching situations well at all. We are very disappointed in this school and the way they handle things.
