My son attended Kumon for last 10 years. He is a special need boy. But because of Kumon his math skill is really strong! The course is very structured which helped him a lot. After he joined Kumon he never struggled with math. I would highly recommend Kumon all the kids. If it helped my son and I sure it will definitely help all the kids!!

I went through the Kumon process when I was 9 and ended it around 15. I cannot begin to tell you how it has changed my way of thinking. I went through only the math program, and it helped me to achieve a near perfect SAT score on my math section. More than that Kumon has taught me discipline and time management when it comes to any tasks that I have to do. These life skills are key in development, and I have Kumon to thank for them. My only regret is not going through the reading program as well!

Were only paying for the homework, +100+ a month for some paper, when the tutor tells you how to do a type of problem and once you understand, you just do the homework and keep practicing, so yeah, theyre just telling you how to do it and you just have to practice it when we understand the whole level already, I was put in a level(s) where I already knew but they still kept me in the level(s), so youre paying like around $100+ a month for classes that are 4 TIMES A WEEK and some paper to keep on practicing.

Beginning:We started attending Kumon in March 2015. My daughter was in the second grade and was struggling in math a bit because the way math was explained in school didn’t work for her. Another parent suggested Kumon.Cant Afford Private School or SylvanSending kids to private school or even Sylvan can be expensive. Signing our kids for Kumon was an option that we could afford and also help our kids succeed in school.FeeThe fee is $125 per subject per month. The fee increased $5 over a span of three years.CenterThe Des Plaines center is run by Mrs. Veronica L. I think Mrs. Veronica is fantastic because she is warm and caring but at the same time she is tough and holds kids accountable. She has been in the DP center since 1995, which demonstrates that the center must be well managed, otherwise, if it wasn’t it would have either closed or changed hands few times.Days & HoursHours are short and sometimes it is a challenge to find a good fit with all the kids’ schedules. However, the center is very accomodating about changing your come-in time. I have changed our time several times, especially when our schedule changes each Spring to Summer & Summer to Fall. There are times when the center can get packed, therefore make sure you ask which times are lessy busy. If it gets very busy then your kids will have to wait long time to get their worksheets corrected or receive help.SubjectsYou can have your kids work on Math, English or both. We started with Math for our daughter & English for my son, as these were the subjects that they struggled with. Then at some point we decided to do Math & English for both. That was a bit too much, especially during the school year. After that we decided to just keep Math for both of our kids for three reasons: 1) my daughter needed a bit more help; 2) we saw a large progress in Math with our daughter, however with English it was harder to tell the advancement that my son made, therefore 3) we decided to nurture his strenght.PlacementAll the kids are tested and placed according to their level. Sometimes they may start working on material from a grade lower to make sure they perfect all the basic concepts.BagsEach child receives a different color bag, which identifies their level. In the bag, each child caries their weekly Kumon worksheets. Once a week they bring the completed worksheets & receive new ones.ProcessTwice a week, children visit the Kumon center where they get help and do worksheets. During all other days of the week, your children will do the remaining worksheets at home.Tutors/GradersIn the center, there are tutors/graders who work with the kids to explain topics and make corrections. Whenever graders take a long time to check your kids worksheets, make sure you reach out the Mrs. Veronica.CorrectionsWhen kids do their worksheets at the center, the helpers/graders check them and if any corrections are needed, kids have two tries to correct them. If they are still having trouble, the staff will go over the material. The rest of the worksheets that kids receive have to be corrected at home by the parents against an answer book that you take home. For us it was always hard to make corrections on daily basis so now we devote one day a week (the day before kids return their completed worksheets to the testing center) to do all the corrections at once.Worksheet AdjustmentThere were times when the Kumon material was a bit challenging for my kids and it was taking them too long to do. Therefore 1) for temporary need of adjustment - I ask my kids to do half of the worksheet; 2) for permanent need of adjustment - I aks Mrs. Veronica to cut the lenghts of the worksheets.ProgressAll the worksheets that your kids complete are entered into a system and you can ask for progress report whenever you like. This will show you whether your children are below, at, or above their level in school.

They have a program which is a combination of home work and class work, not like some other places were they only give homework.
