Both of my children attend the Lerner School. It is a wonderful school that has become a home away from our home. There is a strong community sense and a warm, nurturing feeling. The school is small and the children receive individualized attention. My kids have gotten excellent educations so far and I am confident that will continue. In fact, I see the curriculum getting stronger each year. The children are treated with compassion and respect and these qualities are fostered in them as well. My children are developing positive identities and they are taught to respect many ways of thinking/being/believing.. Most importantly, at the Lerner School all of the children are learning universal values of kindness, helping others, taking care of the environment, being thoughtful, creative problem solvers, and making a positive impact on the world. I am very grateful for the Lerner School!

I was very impressed at the preschool program when I sent to observe. As a speech language pathologist working exclusively with preschool for 20 years, I feel I know how preschool learning should look. I saw every child treated as an individual. Every moment was made into a child-led teachable moment. Comments were made to positively encourage the child to think rather than telling him/her what it is or how it should be. The environment was warm and inviting. I love the idea of Imagination area which most come in handy or inclement days. Movement and creativity with the whole body is a wonderful way to learn.

Academics and the care with which my children are treated would be enough to mark Loved it. My children are absolutely individuals who are met on their own terms and treated with respect and kindness by the teachers and staff. The love of learning Lerner has instilled in my children I do not believe we could have gotten anywhere else. But wait, theres more! In addition to learning to be caring, compassionate members of the community at large they stand just a little bit taller as Jewish citizens of a larger world because of their experiences at Lerner. They take pride in their Judaism, their culture and their family traditions and openly tell people they are Jewish and beam! It is a wonderful blessing to have such a school available in an otherwise relatively small Jewish community and I have been honored to have my family be a part of it.

I am both an educator and a parent at the Lerner School. In my 17 year teaching career, I have never felt as supported and professionally fulfilled as I have the past three years. All members of our community have an important voice. Our students are energetic, happy and engaged. Our curriculum is rich and differentiated. We integrate strong academics with Jewish values and ethics. Above all else is our warm environment. As a parent, I am confident in my childs educational foundation and in our decision to be part of the Lerner family!

We are now finishing up our second year at Lerner school with both a preschooler as well as a first-grader attending. The school is fantastic, nurturing, everything we could ask for. My wife is Israeli and she absolutely loves the Hebrew and Judaic studies curriculum. Our children are thriving and maturing thanks to this wonderful school. We cant imagine what the negative reviewer has experience or whether she/he is truly legitimate, as I have not witnessed such issues as mentioned in that review. I would like to counteract those remarks. The school treats its non-Jewish employees and family members with respect. One piece of evidence is that the long-time head of school is non-Jewish. It is further noteworthy that I am a non-Jewish spouse with a Catholic background. I always felt fully accepted and was not treated in any way differently from other parents. The Lerner school has welcomed my children, my wife and myself with open arms.

The Lerner School is an amazing community Jewish day school focused on building community and offering a strong academic base for students. The Lerner school graduates students who see themselves as active members of the Jewish community, they have a personal connection to Israel, and students view themselves as important parts of their local communities. An education at Lerner focuses heavily on understanding and integrating Jewish values into students everyday lives. Torah and Rabbinic thought are taught through experiential and project based classes. This is mirrored by The Lerner schools focus on providing the best in General studies classes as well. Lerner is a great community of families, professional staff, and exceptional students.

My daughter got an excellent education at Lerner -- secular and religious subjects were both really strong. Many kids there qualify for the Duke Tip program, which is based solely on standardized test scores. My daughter went on to Durham Academy, and felt very well prepared for the academic rigor there. Whats more, Lerner offers warmth, acceptance, hospitality and Jewish values to boot.

When we moved to Raleigh from New Jersey we were not prepared for the small size of the Jewish Community. At that time we did not have a Pluralistic Jewish Elementary School. When I heard about the Lerner school, even though my children were all too old to attend, I decided to explore it just out of curiosity.I observed some classes and took at tour of the school. I was impressed by the tender and sincere interest the staff took in the students. Being the parent of a child with learning issues, I was very happy to see the positive classroom management style. If It were possible, I would have sent all 3 of my children to Lerner and been very proud of it. I have been actively involved with Jewish Education since 1980 and would endorse the Lerner school to any parent who wanted their children to have an empowered, pluralistic, academic and nuturing Jewish Education.

As a parent of 2 daughters who graduated from the Lerner school, I will say that this school helped them embrace and own an incredible pride in their Jewish Life. Our family began practicing shabbat in our house because of the school. My wife became a Jew by choice because of the nurturing of this school. My daughters, one at the American Hebrew Academy, both live engaged Jewish lives, post Bat Mitzvah. Both will visit Israel. Both have a strong sense of Connection to Israel. Our friendships, and Community have been enriched by our experience at the school. An incredible asset to the Durham Chapel Hill Community.

I am a father of 4 children who have attended Lerner from Preschool. I have spent the last 8 years in this wonderful, caring community. The school and the community surrounding it have given me much more then a post on Google will state. We are an Israeli American family which the school fosters a love for Israel that cannot be questioned. Visit the school on Israel Independence Day and you can see, hear, smell and taste the love of Israel. With a strong Judaica and Hebrew program the kids are learning necessary skills when they enter this world as a minority. They learn who they are and why they should be proud of the great accomplishments the Jewish/Israeli people have contributed to the world. If this was not enough, my daughter is in middle school now, which tomorrow she will win an award, not just being a straight A student but for also being a great person. My daughter is ready for the next stage of her life. She has the skills and the drive to be successful. All of this is because of the Lerner School.

I am immensely grateful to be both a parent (of two students) and an employee at The Lerner Jewish Community Day School. We moved across the country to have an opportunity to go to Lerner, because I knew from my first visit that the school balances challenging children intellectually, nourishing them spiritually, and supporting them emotionally and socially. Everything about Lerner has exceeded my already lofty expectations.

We love Lerner! We enrolled our child in the preschool several years ago, figuring that we would move her to public school when she was old enough for Kindergarten, but our experience has been so fantastic that we have stayed. The curriculum includes a balance of academics and Judaic studies. We have been very happy.

In all the years my family has been a part of the Lerner School community we have only experienced a school that is wholly committed to its love of Israel and its mission to instill strong Jewish identity and values in our children. In addition to excellent general academics, our children participate in daily Hebrew instruction, Judaic Studies, and Tefillah. Over the years Lerner School faculty and personnel have been completely dedicated to helping our children become proud, active, compassionate, and charitable members of our local and global Jewish community. We are delighted that such as school exists in our community.

What a wonderful school and community! This is our familys fourth year at Lerner, and our sons first year in the elementary school. We continue to be amazed at what he learns here, whether its Hebrew language or Israels geography or states of matter or the proper way to write his (English) letters. Even more than the excellent academics, we are thrilled with the kindness and compassion that all of the faculty and staff model for the students, and the kind and compassionate human being we see him growing to be.

Amazing school. Sent all three of our children and we love the quality of the teachers, the nurturing environment, the academic excellence and the Jewish education. Lerner is a strong, inclusive Jewish Day School that has instilled a strong Jewish identity in our children and helped them build wonderful Jewish character. We feel they are very prepared for middle and high school and are very well versed in Hebrew, Jewish history, culture and practice, as well as math, science, english and all the other studies they need to be successful in their future.

Our family couldnt be more happy with the Lerner school. The curriculum is top notch in addition our son receives daily Jewish instruction and Hebrew instruction. Paramount to the value they bring to a young Jewish persons life is the deeply rooted connection to Judaism and Israel. Two aspects that are hard to develop in children in modern America.

We had 2 children in this school and were very disappointed with the lack of professionalism of some of the teaching staff and the schools refusal to hang up a modern map of the State of Israel inside school walls.More troubling was the schools hiring of a teacher who is an anti-Israel (BDS) activist and administrations refusal to get rid of her. And when concerned parents like us voiced our objections to, what we believed was offensive behavior by the schools teacher, we were accused of bigotry. A key administrator even said we did NOT adhere to the schools Core Values, however a teacher engaging in extreme displays of opposition against Israel DID adhere to the schools Core Values. The schools principal, so angered by our complaint, wrote her school colleagues that I should worry about surviving the school because she might come after me . . . (the mother of 2 young children in the school!!!). NOT the nurturing, loving school we had hoped for, thats for sure! Its no wonder that families have left this school very unhappy over the past 3 years. For the 2014-2015 school year, the schools teaching staff was made up of several parents who stepped in as teachers (at least one is not an NC certified teacher) , perhaps because of budget constraints. We see this development as a major conflict of interest. Each of these teachers, an administrator, and now the head of school, have children attending the school and appear to lack objectivity when shaping school policies and, for sure, in handling feedback. It appears to us that the school operates as a clique rather than a legitimate learning institution.

My 3 children went to the Lerner School. The community embraced (and continues to embrace) all of the values of repairing the world, doing mitzvot and providing a warm, supportive environment during their pre school and elementary school years. The faculty and staff integrated the secular and non-secular curriculum seamlessly, giving my children a strong sense of what it means to be Jewish in a positive, loving environment.

Lerner has been an amazing education for my son for the past four years. The teachers take the time to really get to know the students, and their love of the children is evident. My son has been inspired and challenged, encouraged and strengthened by the personalized education hes received. And where else can he study the parsha ha shavua? I love that he is getting a deep grounding in Jewish study, culture, and history. We discuss what hes studied in Judaic Studies (and sing plenty of Shabbat and holiday songs!) all week long. Our family loves Lerner!

This school plays favorites with Jewish employees. Want proof? ask around. They treat their Catholic non-jews like outsiders. They do not include them in any of the festivities and it is truly sad. It is obvious that these 2 verbose recent reviews are nothing more than an attempt at damage control by the school. They were not written by parents. Would you really want to send your kids to a school like this? I would hope NOT! Would you really expect people to use their real name in google? Who are you lerner parent? reveal yourself. You are an admin member or board member trying to hide the truth with sugar coated reviews! Your school is perfect correct? Think again!
