We recently moved to South Carolina, and I couldnt find any Kyokushin Karate Dojos in the state. I have been training Kyokushin for over 30 years, and I wanted to stick to my roots. I found the Senshi Karate Dojo over the internet, and after little research I realized that it is actually as close to kyokushin as it gets. I met Sensei Ross last Friday, and started classes this Monday. Sensei Ross Conklin is very knowledgeable in many styles of karate. He has experience in Shotokan, Isshinryu, Kyokushin, and Gojuryu. That is a well rounded teacher that will give you a well rounded teaching. I have trained Kyokushin in Bulgaria originally, then I trained in the Kyokushinkaykan dojo in Manhattan under Shihan Gorai, then under Shihan Kenji Fujiwara in Connecticut, and over the years I have trained with people ranging from almost any country in Europe, Russia, USA, Japan, South Africa, and I can honestly say that Senshi Karate Dojo is providing a traditional well rounded Karate training as should be expected. Great school that teaches REAL karate. Instructors are top notch and make sure students really grasp the technique. Kids and Adult classes are geared toward traditional martial arts and not sport. Highly recommended.

My 5 year old son has been going here for almost 2 months now, and he loves it. The Sensais are Awesome, Very patient, and teach, and do one on one as well. He has learned alot!!

My 11 year old son started taking karate last fall. He loves it (as do I) and I believe it is all due to the environment and atmosphere Sensei Ross has created at Senshi Dojo. Sensei laughs and has fun with the kids but also teaches them how to be respectful to others and how to be overall good citizens. Sensei is very patient with all of the kids and invests so much time teaching them the proper techniques and stances (from white belts to brown belts). One of my favorite aspects of the dojo is that the kids learn self-defense and real world application of these moves. I highly recommend Senshi Dojo!

Sensei Conklin is very knowledgeable of the martial arts. He has studied several styles. He is teaching Isshynryu an Okinawan style that is very much STRONG in self defense. He works well with children, bringing out their best potential, and teaches adults with ease. If you are looking for strong self defense skills, steeped in kata and history this is the place. It is better to be a warrior in a garden, than a gardener in a war.
