We love Edgewater Kung Fu Academy. Our 8 year old son is in the advanced program now and it’s been wonderful for him. The school is very traditional so they’re not just teaching self defense and promoting physical activity, they teach the kids important lessons in respect, self confidence, self discipline, focus, and effort. My son looks forward to his classes each week and it’s great having in person as well as virtual options.

Edgewater Kung Fu is a wonderful business and Kung fu school. But, it goes beyond that. The staff is professional, skilled, customer-friendly, and takes all of the right precautions to ensure safety for their students (especially with the right measures in place given Covid). Our son has been coming here for over 4 years now and each of his teachers have not only taught him the fundamentals of Kung fu and technique but also the importance of the values associated with it (the importance of respect, kindness, confidence, integrity, and dedication). I cannot recommend this place enough and am very satisfied with our son’s experience here, the skills he has been taught, and the values that have been instilled in him!

Our daughter has been going to Edgewater Kungfu for a few years now and we could not say enough great things about this place. Everything from the way the teachers engage the kids to the customer service is top notch here. Not only do the kids learn the art, they also pick up valuable life lessons, which is ingrained in the way the classes are conducted. We are very grateful for our Edgewater Kungfu family.

I was hesitant to go back to working out because of Covid. I tried for the first time yesterday. They’re super careful, temperature checks and questions at the door, tons of space, disinfectant between everything. It felt great to be back! These guys are always fantastic.

It started off so well, but then it quickly went downhill. My partner and I signed up for Tai Chi. At first everything was great and we enjoyed the lessons, but then our new client 3-pack ran out. We tried to purchase additional classes, but they didn’t have any.Basically this place doesn’t have any consistent pricing, its whatever promotion they have. In our case they only had a 3 month and 6 month special. This was unrealistic for us as they only offer 1 evening class (the other 2 are in the afternoon and early morning). With our busy schedule, an unlimited monthly class pass just doesn’t make sense. This is the only place I’ve ever been to that doesn’t sell packages like 5, 10 or 20 pack of classes. What’s also upsetting is that they don’t have a class registration process. They have all these covid measures in place and taped the floors so that student are 6ft apart, but if you don’t need to register for class, then anyone can show up really. What are they going to do when it gets full? Tell people to leave? Let them in and negate their own Covid measures?I work for a fast growing tech startup and Id like to think that I know a thing or two about business hurdles and what it takes to grow and expand. This business operation needs to pivot. Sign up for a service like Mindbody, have an online schedule with registration and implement a clear pricing structure with additional monthly or holiday promotions.Lastly when a client is telling you that they want to keep coming, you should do everything that’s possible to make that happen. Don’t tell me sorry check again at a later time when we have a different deal...

I have nothing but high praise for this School. Sifu Robinson is a great teacher and has been a wonderful influence in my grandsons life. He has been a student there since he was three years old. He is now 7, and it has become very important in our lives. It is as much about integrity and learning to do the right thing, as it is about developing A Martial Arts practice. I am a very grateful Grammy!

I lived in NJ and moved to NYC, and one aspect I miss the most is going to Edgewater kung fu. I enjoyed taking tai chi, but I really miss the kung fu classes for my son. Sifu Robinson is truly a special person and teacher. All the children love him and the discipline and confidence he instills in the children is amazing. Other schools for young children make it play time . Edgewater kung fu is about instructing the children proper kung fu technique and life lessons. I also like how in each session the parents participate with their kids

I have been training with Sifu Romain for the last 9 years. Joining Edgewater Kung Fu Academy was one of the best things I did for myself. The experience has been great for myself and my family. The group of instructors and students have been nothing but 1st class.

Bought a gift certificate for my mom so this review is from her to try Tai Chi. The facility and instructors are good. Lots of different classes available. The only things that could be improved is providing more tai chi class times - some of the classes are quite full with people a bit close. And the facility can be warm at times. Maybe set the ac to a lower temperature.Otherwise a good facility in a good location. If not for warm facility and congested classes she would have subscribed.

One of my favorite things about Edgewater Kung Fu is that I have been able to train together with my kids and we have continued to stay motivated all through these years. They frequently tell me how much they love training here and would always talk excitedly about what theyve learned in class on the drive home. Its also inspiring to see so many other parents also working out with their kids as they learn self-defense, get fit, find their inner strength, feel challenged, have fun, and yes, graduate to the next rank together. The staff is friendly, never intimidating, always motivating us to give our best.Gym memberships never worked out for me because I would eventually get bored then would stop coming in. But with Edgewater Kung Fu Academys tai chi, weapons, kickboxing and self-defense classes, theres plenty to keep us challenged and interested. I highly recommend this school.

I have no idea what school was discussed in the review above, but it definitely is not Edgewater Kung Fu. Im just beginning my second week here, and I absolutely love this place. The instructors are very much focused on getting you to do your best, and work very hard to foster a strong spirit of family amongst the students.Unlike some martial arts schools, which tend to be belt factories and are focused on cranking out black belts, the instructors at Edgewater Kung Fu make sure that you grasp the basics before moving on to more complicated moves. They truly want their students to be well-rounded and get a good grasp of kung fuI cannot recommend this school enough. If I could go every day of the week, I would.(FYI, I got an actual uniform, not a T-shirt.)

I am a senior citizen with Angina and lung impairment due to a long stay in I C U on ventilator. I was not sure if Tia Chi or some other discipline would be conducive for improvement of my condition.I am so glad that I found Edgewater Kungfu Academy in my search.I think my breathing has improved. My balance has improved and it gives me a mental as well as a physical sense of wellbeing. I am also hearing impaired due to massive dose of antibiotics given to me in the hospital. My compliments to staff they carefully position me in the line up so that I dont feel left out.Overall a great Academy .I highly recommend it.

Joined for a year. My goal was to lose weight and I didnt lose a pound, and not for lack of trying. I attended every class in the nightly adult classes, even modified my diet to a very strict healthy one.Secondly complaint.. You get a free one-on-one training session with the owner when you join, I suppose this is supposed to be a taste of what his sessions are like if you decide to hire him as a personal trainer. The one on one session was completely unprofessional as the owner would check his iPhone constantly during the workout session. Astoundingly unprofessional. Some other observations about this place. They have overweight instructors that teach the classes when the owner isnt there. It is odd that the instructors who do the regimen multiple times a day are not fit and hadnt lost any weight in the duration of my membership for a year.Thats right, the instructors that teach classes 3 times a day arent losing weight. That is really telling about the effectiveness of their program with regard to weight loss. The instructors are friendly, but they are also walking evidence that it is not an efficient weight loss regimen. With regard to self defense applications, there is no way the techniques they teach would ever help you in a situation where you are being mugged or youre ever in a situation where you need to defend yourself on the street. DO NOT look for self defense training in the evening adult classes. The nightly adult classes are closer to gym classes you took back in elementary school rather than a real weight loss program or a self defense course. The owner, Romaine, only taught one nightly class there a week during the course of my membership. The rest of the nights they were being taught by young instructors, some of them clearly not in any decent physical shape.Do not be persuaded by the Free Uniform they entice you with to join is just a plain black t-shirt.One final note, after I let my membership here lapse, I started a regimen of jogging on river road and lost 20-25lbs this past summer. If your goal is to lose weight, you can save yourself a ton of money by just jogging and eating sensibly.

You will spend lots of money while learning very little.I can only tell you about my experience there so i do not speak for everybody there. but feel free to correct me if i am wrong. This whole model is a cash grab. My free class was just a one on one with the instructor who didnt teach me anything. Instead using a script the entire time tried to sell me membership. in which case i did. you join the Basic program for $100.00 a month. not to bad right? wrong! as you progress in rank you pay $50 as you acquire each new rank. (price may have changed) the Basic program only bring you up to orange belt. YOU CANNOT PROGRESS IN RANK WITHOUT UPGRADING YOUR MEMBERSHIP.To upgrade there is a fee of somewhere in the $500 vicinity. this includes new uniform and sparring gear. you choose from either the Mastery program $150 a month or Leadership for $200 a month. you can now progress even higher in rank but will not learn much else either than forms and some basic weapon. Kali sticks, sword, and knife fighting. i cant emphasize how basic these skills are. Youtube will provide you with better training. The sparring is very limited because if students get hurt you lose out on paying members.Your instructor, a former member who was sold on the idea he or she can be an instructor. they then go through the instructor training program and Karl Romain gets cheaper labor while selling the idea that you too can be an instructor. Mr Romain has a great success story that he unfortunately decided to exploit. Instead of teaching martial arts he is a business man that uses a business model similar to the pro martial arts or Karate America franchise in Florida. There are plenty of other facilities that you can train at for much less money. DO NOT MAKE A DECISION BASED ON THIS REVIEW. i suggest you see it for yourself to come up with your own opinions. stop in and watch a class. observe the students who wear high rank sashes and determine if thats your idea of success. I love Martial arts. i hate that it has become a cash farm for some. good luck.

Ive done one style or another of martial arts since I was 10 years old. I discovered this academy quite by accident, and when I went inside to investigate, I was immediately impressed by the cleanliness, the friendliness and the professionalism of the instructors I met. This was in August, 2007. I have since earned my Black Sash, and even though I do not train as often as I might find beneficial, I have never felt more comfortable, and more as if I was a part of a wonderful, martial arts family. Sifu Karl Romain, Lao Shr Robinson and Lao Shr Loren are incredible instructors and friends. The curriculum is varied and there is something for everyone -- Tai Chi, Chinese kick boxing, kung fu ... all of it.
