My Nephew called this school while visiting me and I over heard the call on speaker phone. He is 23 and looking at flight schools in CA and Arizona. The man who answered seemed disinterested and not very helpful. We got the sense he just wanted to answer the questions and get off the phone. We called a few schools and by far this was the worse call. The other schools we called, the admissions people were very enthusiastic and did not rush us off the phone. I run a business and deal with customer service and this person would never work for me.

I was in this school for 7 months without PPL , I would not recommend this school for International Students especially. I transfered to another school and got everything from PPL to CFI in just 4 months. Most international students last 3+ years until all their money is drained and they are kicked.Old Cesnna 172(no g1000), few instructors, new rules everyday(go to an established school), student housing just to name a few. I am glad I left this school early before they drained my passion for flying. Definately not worth it.

California Flight Academy has a great culture and environment. The CFIs and flight staff are amazing and truly care about their students. I really love the diverse backgrounds of the staff and student body. It is inspiring to be around other students who are pursuing a significant goal in their lives of building a successful career as a pilot.

They charge us rent during the crises when we had to scramble back home and not even offer a discount to keep our things there. Not like they are going to rent the room to anyone. Many students are very upset and the school only cares about charging you money. The admissions person Ali lied to me and I talked to others and many said the information he gave us was not true about cost and fees and time to get training. School has had major safety issue and accidents and death and not had a maintenance person who died in a crash last year. They downplayed the accident and gave us no updates for months. Many of us have chatted and are already looking to go to other schools. The school is owned by big corporation and the owners do not have any idea about flight and aviation. The Chief Pilot and Dina are the only ones in the school who seem to really care.

Avoid this school if you are a US based student!! Caters mostly to International students .I visited a few flight schools in SD in January, as I am getting out of the military in July. Dropped in and was given tour and the dude seemed totally bored and not comfortable .(he also was not American and it was an awkward tour at best). Planes are all old and I did some research, it seems they have had a few incidents and accidents in the last few years. On the way out, ran into a few guys and they were the flight instructors and they said, yeah schools mostly international students and management is awful . Neither of them said they went there for flight school and just work there to get hours, but would not go there if they had to for their license. Recommended me to check out another school called Coast. I went toured and it was clearly a better fit. I did not even give them my real info as i did not want them to contact me after. I wrote this review for any other vets thinking of flight school here in SD. Semper Fi!!!

Do not choose this place.Airplanes are old and not well maintained.Engine fires, Engine failures, even emergency landing on freeway.Overwhelming students, short of instructors. Also very disappointing housing service.Go find somewhere else. Any place other than this would have better airplanes with better price.
