I am a musician and studied classical piano and music theory for 12 years when I was young. Music is important to our family, and Chris and Pamela have taught our 2 young kids (now 9 and 11) piano for over 3 years. They have provided high-quality, serious piano instruction in a patient, positive environment. Pamela focuses on formal classical training while Chris mixes classical and jazz instruction. They have encouraged and motivated our kids to push their boundaries of musicianship. They keep it fun, always supporting our kids popular music requests and they bring on the festive holiday music in the winter. They also teach our kids how to practice effectively, a valuable life skill that goes beyond piano. Chris and Pamela are superb teachers and I recommend them highly.

My daughter began taking lessons with Pamela when she was 9 years old after moving to Colorado. Pamela has a unique and wonderful way of understanding what kids enjoy and what will inspire them to love music. She is patient and kind, she understands the time demands the kids have, and she is encouraging and makes learning music fun. Pamelas joy for teaching is evident and her love of music is contagious. While she definitely teaches her students many classics, she also allows the student to choose music that interests them - from classical to pop to show tunes! My daughter studied with Pamela through high school until graduation. Today, she is a freshman in college and I love it when she tells me that she spent some time on the piano in one of the dorms - just because. Thank you Pamela, for giving her a life long love of music. Our family highly recommends the Erie School of Music. Both Pamela and Chris are wonderful instructors that will encourage a lifelong love of music in your child.

I have wanted to take piano lessons my whole life, but as the decades slipped by, I feared it may be too late to start as an aging adult. That was before I had the opportunity to take beginning lessons from Pamela. She used her tremendous skills as an accomplished pianist and patient teacher to inspire and challenge me, providing friendly encouragement each step of the way. She made the fundamentals fun, like learning the scales and chord structures, while helping me learn challenging but manageable music pieces. I highly recommend Pamela and urge other adults like me to give it a go. You wont be disappointed!

As a long-time teacher in the Boulder area, including 25 years on the piano faculty at CU, I am aware that the level of piano teaching isnt always of the highest calibre. The difference between the better and the worse is considerable, in my opinion. Both Chris and Pamela have track records of taking the art of teaching to a high level. Both are experienced pianists themselves and have had excellent teaching throughout their student days. I am confident that joining their studio would be a very positive step for both parents and students interested in making real and regular progress.

I took piano lessons with Pamela for 8 years, from the time I was 9 years old until I graduated high school. Pamela is unlike any teacher I had ever taken lessons from, as she not only is deeply passionate about music but wants to share this passion with others through her teaching. She always let me choose the pieces that I wanted to learn and therefore I would be excited to sit down at the piano to study the song that I chose. I struggled with my love for music during high school, and Pamela was so supportive of me and really wanted to help me rekindle my passion for piano and music. If you have the opportunity, take lessons with Erie School of Music--you will not regret it. Their instructors know how to light a musical fire in you that lasts a lifetime.

I have a very eclectic piano interest including contemporary, classical, and jazz. As a music major in college my piano professors recommended a private lesson with Chris to help me in the areas I wanted to bulk up. He then came on staff and I was able to take lessons with him weekly. His ability to polish difficult music with precision and nuance as well as passing this along to students as practice techniques is something I am grateful for every time I sit down at the piano.

Chris Hatton has been our private piano teacher for our son and daughter for about 4 years now. We love him! He teaches each of them in a way that suits each of their unique learning needs, and now at 7 and 9, they both can read sheet music proficiently while also being able to play by sound. Our daughter recently became interested in singing as well, and I credit piano lessons with Chris for having developed her ear for learning to sing, as well. Piano lessons with him have been the best investment.

Chris Hatton taught my 9-year old daughter and my husband and they both loved working with Chris! He is a hugely talented pianist in his own right, but his most significant talent as a teacher is meeting students where they are, engaging children and adults in a meaningful but lighthearted manner, finding ways to tap into their love of music, all in support of musical growth and enjoyment. We highly and enthusiastically recommend Chris as a fabulous piano teacher of all ages!

My children have taken lessons from both Chris and Pamela for over 3 years. Each has their own distinct style but both are encouraging, inspiring, and fun. They really learn and still allow the kids to explore their individual interests. The biggest win for me is that my kids are always excited to practice.

Our early-elementary age daughter began piano lessons with Pamela in the fall of 2017 as a brand new piano student. In short, Pamela is an incredible piano teacher.During the very first months of being introduced to the piano keyboard and learning the basics in order to read music, Pamela simultaneously taught her to play simple songs by ear. As a parent working alongside my child to initially guide her in piano practice, I witnessed how Pamela taught and built upon fundamental skills of playing music in a developmentally appropriate way that also stimulated her internal motivation to continue with the hard work of learning to play piano because she had the simple reward of learning to play a song the day of her very first lesson. Now, she is reading music and playing complex songs! As a piano teacher, Pamela is very technical and detail oriented. Pamela’s skills and expertise as a music teacher speak for themself in the progress my daughter has made over time. She has high expectations for what children are capable of, and I’m continually noticing how my daughter isn’t simply learning to play songs or read music, but is becoming a highly educated young musician. She practices drills and exercise to make her fingers fast and strong, and she is learning music theory, and learning to play with excellent musicality, rhythm, and dynamics. We have had the opportunity to prepare and participate in two piano recitals so far, as well as Achievement Day, and Pamela is also working with my daughter to prepare a CD of her recorded piano songs. On the other side of simply being an excellent piano teacher from a technical perspective, Pamela is a warm, approachable and inspiring teacher. Over the past years, I’ve had the opportunity to see the way she connects with students individually and meets them where they are. My daughter always smiles before, during, and after lessons, because she absolutely adores her piano teacher. Pamela’s friendliness, enthusiasm, and positive attitude come across and I believe that has a huge influence on my child’s growing love of music as well.Pamela’s experience as a piano teacher is also reflected in her understanding of young children and her thoughtful approach to nurturing the drive from within and her emphasis on developing internally motivated piano students. I can also attest that when working with young children with sometime involuntary squiggles, Pamela is endlessly patient. In fact, I believe my daughter has grown so much in her abilities to focus, listen well, and sit still especially because of her work learning to play piano with Pamela. We as parents are so pleased and impressed with Pamela as our child’s piano teacher, and we recognize how Pamela has truly become part of our family, especially with the beautiful music that fills our house daily as our daughter practices at home. I would highly recommend Erie School of Music!
