The teachers are good. However, learning is difficult for many students because of students with behavioral problems that exhibit inappropriate and aggressive behaviors. This is as much of a parental problem as it is an administrative one. Too much time is spent trying to assist behaviorally challenged students to apply WHISPER values which detracts from the other student’s ability to learn. Further, many parents do not feel that rules apply to them (I wonder why their children have behavioral problems) and make it problematic to maintain an enriched and safe environment inside and outside of the classroom. When I confronted one parent about unsafe parking she came at me aggressively and stated, I dont care about the safety of the children...I will park my car anywhere I feel like it! A police presence may be necessary at the school to assist parents in keeping children safe after school. This attitude is not limited to this mother and when I complain I am told that I am mean. When there are presentations by students, many parents choose to stand in front of seated people after the event begins, blocking the seated people, so that they can take photos and videos of their child without any concern that they are blocking other parents. In addition, last year a first grade classmate of my sons, stabbed my son in the back with a pencil, in addition to other violent behaviors, and disrupted the class on a daily basis. This school needs to enforce rules inside and outside of the school, suspend/expel unruly children (along with parents that role model the same inappropriate values and behaviors), and/or have a separate class for students that detract from students that DO follow rules, so that students who follow the rules and WHISPER values that want to learn, are able to.
