This school is not for everyone but if you do find its for you, get ready for your college life to get easier and in cases, have your parents save money on your tuition fee.I have spoken with many of my Gateway Alumni friends and each and every one of them had the trend of, It has helped me so much to get prepared and its almost the exact same as college. I dont find college to be hard at all since attending Gateway College Prep. You have to understand this is a CHARTER PUBLIC school and not entirely a PUBLIC school so it will not have the same qualities of a public school in the district. With so many generous families, we are finally starting Phase 111 of construction and it has only improved since starting the school 8 years ago. This school has its downs just like ANY OTHER SCHOOL ever existing but if you seek it, its actually a very great school! If you dont plan on getting exposed to drugs and alcohol this place is the perfect school!

I am so glad we found this school! We recently moved to Georgetown from the NW suburbs of Chicago and found the public schools here to be...lacking. Severely lacking. We didnt know what to do. Private school was an option, but extremely limited if you desired a secular environment. Charter schools are virtually unheard of in Illinois so we were unfamiliar with their concept. Again, I am SO GLAD we found this school! It upholds the high standards we are used to. The teachers are amazing, the extra curricular activities are varied and abundant. Our child is thriving and we are beyond ecstatic to have found an institution where high standards are placed not only on academics, but individual development as well.I will say this, our daughter is advanced for her age, and Gateway has proven to be the perfect environment for her to grow at the accelerated pace she requires. I have read all of the negative reviews and my response is this, Gateway is not an alternative school. If you are simply looking for a place to dump your academically or behaviorally challenged child, look elsewhere. Yes, Gateway is strict. Yes, they require accountability both academically and behaviorally. And if you have any experience with the top educational institutions in our country, you will see that they all have this in common. However, if your child is dedicated to learning, and would do well in an environment that offers more than just your run-of-the-mill public school setting, Gateway would be a great choice!

Amazing teachers, and some of the best students and people Ive been privileged to meet. Many issues with the administration, and a lot of organization still needed for this school to be considered college preparatory. I find that some of the administration is very passionate about helping the students (like Mr. Benjamin Boorman) whereas it is clear that other parts of the administration could care less if we succeed as students and citizens. Overall, sending your students here will certainly test their aptitude and abilities, but it is from this that they may be far more prepared for the real world than students at other institutions.

If I could give it zero stars I would. Negative stars would be generous for this school. The only good reviews are from people before the school went completely downhill. Listen to the most recent reviews before you send your kids here

I heard through the grapevine that students were putting up bad reviews as pranks or because they thought it was funny, well its not funny and it needs to be known that some of these bad reviews are fake. Gateway is too gracious to point it out but I do like their witty and thoughtful responses. So please use discernment when reading through some of these. Now for my Review:We have been at Gateway for about 5 years now, I have a son that is a Junior and one in 6th grade. I couldnt be happier with their progress and opportunities. My oldest is already getting recruited by universities which I never had when I was in school. He is becoming a well rounded individual and I couldnt be more proud. They have a new technology class and robotics for my 6th grader, which is very cool. Gateway has come a long way since we started going there with all the additions. And Mr. Ricky(aka Tony Stark) has a big heart and is a man of vision. It is only getting bigger and better. My wife also works there and being at Gateway I have noticed that she is much happier at this district then previous districts. She is a pretty good Teacher by the way.(Im not biased or anything) The reviews about the Cafeteria are ridiculous, My son never complains about the food and My wife says its pretty good. If she eats there thats saying something.

I have gone here since 5th grade (so currently 2 and a half years), and it manages to be simultaneously amazing and slightly annoying at times, with certain students I shall refuse to name for their safety and mine, and the construction going on at the moment. However, I think it is good overall.

This school is going downhill fast! My child has attended gateway for the past seven years and for the last 2 years weve notice a decline within the school, curriculum, and teachers. If your child is sick you can expect zeros for all assignments due for the days absent. It is Gateways policy that no late work is to be accepted even if the child is sick. Ive complained to numerous faculty about the policy only to hear excuse after excuse. The internet textbooks are inappropriate for the grades using them. The instruction provided by the teachers are less than acceptable. Throughout the school year my child and other gateway students have come to me for further instruction on a homework assignment. This is after receiving tutoring from the assigning teacher. The student have expressed the teachers dont teach them anything. The teachers ask the students to open their books and repeat the example on their own paper. This is not teaching! My child has needed more additional outside tutoring than any of the previous years. When asking other older students if they have this problem it seems to be the Gateway Way now. I have enrolled my child into a more appropriate school. So my advice if you are looking for grades K-4 then gateway is good, but anything higher look elsewhere. I am not alone with these feelings many parents are pulling their children from Gateway.

Once again absolutely horrified by gateways beaver as a school, today we had a sheriff show up at are door to hand my mom a paper that states she is no longer aloud on school property due to the fact that miss Arnold said my mother attacked her. My mother has had 10 back surgeries , congestive heart failure& so much more that to be able to walk everyday is a blessing, do you honestly think she would have attacked her or been able to?, today I went to go withdraw the kids from school & got the cops called on me because they thought I was my mother, the so called head of student services mr Ben borman could absolutely give no care in the world that she had lied, it was on tape& that I was withdrawing them, this school is always saying how big they are on family yet that was not the case. If you are coming to Texas and looking at this school be warned that if you stand up for your kids, you will get the cops called on you & the school making you feel so less of a human being. Next step is to take miss Arnold to court & fight this. Me not having a car right now & a busy schedule, my step dad working 24/7, my cousin & boyfriend working during school hours & my mother not being able to step foot on gateways property the school is only giving us one option which is to pull the kids out of school due to no transportation, this is Beyond illegal, & I know that karma will come back to them, when we go to court & they pull the footage to see when did not touch her nor raise are voices to her she will be dealing with the consequences.

These reviews shock me. Ive been here since 3rd grade and I started high school this year. My mom happens to teach, so I get an inside viewpoint of why teachers leave and are replaced. Its nothing to whine about- you cant complain about your favorite restaurant because one of the waiters changed jobs. While the construction does seem to constantly get pushed back, its much prettier now than it was when I started. It used to be a circle of portables for everyone without plumbing, we all ate in Triple Play, our gym classes were in the two-classroom rooms of the portables. Now, we have our own gym, our own high school, our own Union, even our own fields. Perhaps we arent progressing as quickly as well-funded ISDs, but were absolutely progressing. The STAAR, SAT, PSAT, and EOC scores at this school are phenomenal and will probably continue to be phenomenal for a long time. Our cell phone rules are stricter and are classes are harder because school is for learning, not texting your parents. Call the office if you really need to talk to your kid. Ive never gotten below commended on a state test in all my years here because I focus, follow the rules, and try to learn. That said, we should IB Courses for students who want that extra extra push to college, thats my only complaint.Anyways I love this school and get really upset when I see people pointlessly hating it. Our high school is ranked #18 in Texas charters, our AP enrollment is (somehow only) 98%. The admins know whats happening. This school is amazing and I cant imagine leaving.

Horrible, and a black hole for a childs creativity. You cant expect anything from the teachers here, and even less from the administration. Teachers are dropping like flies, you should look for a variety of other schools for you child. This place is falling into a bureaucratic hellhole more than any Ive ever seen before.

Bad, they dont let their kids use the bathrooms. its like a prison at this school. they dont serve healthy food, two out of every five days they only have hot dogs, nothing else. Also half their teachers tell the head of school lies about students. never send your kids here.

For all the people who complain about the new administration. Here is a factoid - STAAR results have improved year over year since 2013. (source: Greatschools) Gateway is a charter school with charter pains but there are many teachers that have remained for some time. Teachers are not on contract so there is higher turnover. If an ISD job becomes available, a teacher will go for it. Teachers leave for a variety of reasons. Gateway is a good option, especially for those who are zoned to poorly performing ISD schools. My kids are actually zoned to good ISD schools but I prefer the concept of going to the same school from start to finish.

Gateway used to be a wonderful school with some really unique ideas. Only 2 years ago Gateway offered a full day to complete school work at school, friendly administration, and would have projects at the end of the year instead of finals. Although after a large change in administration the school turned in to a complete mess that has made it a living hell or both teachers and students. For starters, realize that this school prides itself in being an online school, meaning that most assignments are done through an online program called Moodle which requires a WiFi connection to operate. This school has a miserable WiFi connection, results in many students having to sit and spend time trying to make their WiFi work rather than working on assignments. Gateways solution to this is blaming the students by making up any excuse they can think of.Gateway also has recently waged a war against cellphones. If you would like to contact your student about something, even an emergency, you will most likely cause your student to loose his or her phone for who knows how long. Any phone they see will immediately be taken up and getting it back is up to them. If they feel like charging you money to get it back or cannot retrieve it becuase they have misplaced it (something that has happened several times) its too bad for you since they force you to sign a contract that legally allows them to do this. They take their cellphone rules to an unrealistic extreme, a good example would be when a tornado came close to forming nearby the school in October of 2015. They locked down the entire school, although any student caught trying to contact a parent or be contacted by a parent still had their phone taken away.Their cafeteria food is complete slop and priced the same as restaurant food. They are also not afraid to make sick employees make and serve food to students. Their only way of cleaning the tables and floors of the cafeteria is by taking dirty Swiffers and wiping everything down. And the worst part about that is that they usually will clean the floors before cleaning the tables, and yes they use the exact same Swiffers each day, to wipe up the floor and the tables. How is that sanitary? They also treat their teachers like complete garbage. I would say some of the best parts of Gateway are the teachers, partly because of their skills at teaching and partly because of the perseverance it must take to put up with the constant garbage thrown at them each and every day. As expected, the administration has caused many teachers to straight up quit. Having roughly 5-8 teachers a school year totally abandon their jobs will usually result in even more stress for students as they must deal with a totally new teacher and curriculum when the school can even bother to find one. In recent years the teachers have been pressed to assign student even more work than before in attempts to simulate college. This usually results in roughly 20% of the student population having to drop out and find somewhere else to go to school. With the other 80% spending almost all their free time trying to keep up. Many of the classes will force you to read the textbook at home and take notes (on top of having to do any homework assigned in the class). This may be good way to teach some classes but usually students are then quizzed and tested over the material before a lecture over the content is actually given by the teacher.I could actually go on for much, much longer on all of Gateways flaws and shortcomings but hopefully you see my point. This school is far away from what it used to pride itself in being. At the rate things have been going this school is only going to get worse, and you have to stop and think if youre really ready to deal with all of this. All this information above only covers how this school handles its 9-12th grade students, so stop and think carefully if this is really the right high school to put your student in.
