Arpita Roy was my daughters teacher for a number of years. My daughter graduated with a 5 year diploma from Jhanak. Arpita herself is a talented dancer and a very dedicated teacher. As part of Jhanak, my daughter has been part of many award winning performances, and has learnt a lot.

Arpita Roy is a gifted Kathak dancer and an excellent teacher. My daughter has been learning Kathak from her for last several years and has really blossomed under her guidance and looks forward to her weekly dance classes. Arpita is extremely supportive and encourages her students to perform at multiple platforms. She is very organized and really committed to her students. Jhanak Dance Academy’s annual recitals and performances are a treat to watch.

She is enthusiastic about teaching the art form, and works really hard to convey that enthusiasm to her students. She is a perfectionist and works with you till you get your steps right. In addition to teaching the steps, she also teaches the theory and shares detailed notes on various taals and forms, as well as the meanings related to various parts of kathak. My daughter has learned so much more than just dance steps from her. She has grasped the essence of each and every move, thanks to Arpita’s teachings.More than anything, Arpita is very professional and teaches with ease and expertise. She concentrates and teaches each individual based on their potential. She is able to pinpoint the strengths and weaknesses of each student, and works with them to exemplify the true extent of their abilities.

My daughter learns Kathak from Arpita Roy since last 7+ years, and she has learnt this beautiful dance form very gracefully, adding right techniques for it. She has done numerous performances with her group, under Arpitas teaching, and won many awards for the same. We are very happy with his class, and would highly recommend it.

I’ve been a student at Jhanak Dance Academy since last 8 years and the Academy has fostered my love for kathak. I have learned so much discipline and dancing from Arpita aunty and will carry this throughout my life.

Jhanak Dance Academy is my second home. Arpita Didi introduced me to the beautiful artform of Kathak about 13 years ago. She gave me a strong foundation on the essence of Kathak. She always encourages me and my peers to practice daily, sharpen our technical skills, and personally guides us so that we can continue to improve with every single practice session. The amount of attention to details, care, and patience she has for each student is impeccable. She always goes the extra mile to make sure every student is learning and practicing Kathak the proper way. It is not at all uncommon for her to stay longer than allotted class time and hold additional practices to make sure her students can reach their full potential. She always encourages me to engage in multiple projects and performances to make sure I challenge myself and grow in the process.Arpita Didi is passionate about Kathak and teaching Kathak. She inculcates perfection in students by giving us proper guidance. I am so lucky to have Arpita Didi as my Kathak guru. I have been learning under Arpita Roy (Aunty) for the past 11 years and am truly blessed to have her as my guru. My passion for dance has only grown over the years and I look forward to my class with her every week. With the perfect mix of Kathak technique and choreography, Arpita Aunty has provided me and others with an amazing Kathak education. I have made many close friends and great memories during my time at Jhanak. Even during the COVID pandemic, Aunty continues to provide all her students with a quality and fun learning experience. I thank her for all she has done for me :))

Teachers of Indian dances are called Gurus for a reason.. because they see potential, realize it and encourage the disciples to realize their own potential in a loving, calming, and encouraging manner, especially in kids. It’s not enough to teach them to seek gurus blessing after every class by touching their feet but also teach the dance form in a way that makes the kids fall in love with the dance. Unfortunately, that did not happen for the kid and in return the self confidence started going down- compounded by the fact that the guru was not organized with her lessons, writing, exams, teaching a mix of mostly Bollywood and kathak, holding the kids arm tightly to move from one spot to the other or making them sit through the class instead of dancing while parents are waiting outside. This is not a disgruntled parent review but do think ten times about sending your kid here if your goals are what mine were.
