Herndon center of Shaolin Temple USA offers Kung Fu by excellent Shifus who teach with passion and makes sure the students get the essence of Kung Fu with discipline rather than just the posture. The Shifus pay special attention to detail for each student. I have been taking lessons at this center along with my son for the last two years. Every time after every class I get a feeling of contentment. I feel lucky to have this center to pursue my passion along with my sons.

The real deal! This is genuine Kung fu training based on traditional concepts from masters who have trained at the Shaolin temple. As such, the training is much more detail oriented on proper technique than other Kung fu schools. The Shifu’s help kids to maintain discipline while still being engaging and keeping class fun. They are able to teach all levels of students from advanced adults to younger kids. I particularly like that when learning new forms, there is a focus on the proper technique and what the purpose of the technique is. Though we started Kung fu before COVID, we have been able to continue with zoom classes and have been able to advance even with remote learning. We have found everyone to be flexible and responsive, and are really grateful to participate in Kung fu as a family during the pandemic.

Authentic teachings from monks directly from the Henan Shaolin Temple. Great attention to detail in all the forms and very skilled instructors. Great option to learn real Shaolin Kung Fu.

My daughter has been attending kung-fu training here for over two years and really enjoys working with the shifus. Their skills are amazing and she feels shes learned a lot not only physically but also mentally. This is NOT a standard martial arts school - they dont just push you through testing and hand out belts. Everything is hard-earned, so it really means something when you are able to advance.

My youngest daughter has thrived since starting at this school a year and 4 months ago. She has progressed very well on her own merit by practicing at home and taking her classes seriously. We have tried several sports and this is the first time we have seen her truly happy.I am grateful for everyone that has supported her, including the staff that work there. I’m typically busy as a working mother, with my older daughters schedule to take care of also, but the class times make it easier for my youngest to attend twice a week.

Do not mistake this place for a Buddhist temple. It is actually a martial arts school.

We absolutely love this place and drive 20 miles just to train here!My older son has attending this school for 2 years now and as soon as my younger son is old enough he will all start lessons. This is not a blackbelt factory, its traditional Chinese martial arts training. Ive been training martial arts for nearly 30 years so I am very picky as to where I want my children to train.First, the training space itself enormous! It is also well lit and has plenty of mirrors so that you can see yourself while practicing. They have all of the training equipment one would expect in a training space, heavy bags, mats, storage space for martial arts weapons, and provide sparring equipment when needed. There is plenty of seating for guests, and a welcoming lounge/office area. They also have separate restrooms and storage for miscellaneous items.Second the variety of classes is tremendous. Classes are held 6 days a week and there are specialized classes on different topics ranging forms, sparring, qigong and even acrobatics. You or your child are guaranteed never to get bored with the wide variety of lessons you can take. Classes can have a wide variety of different ages in them as well as kids and adult oriented classes.Third, the teaching staffs knowledge and athleticism must be seen. What is even more impressive is the ability to pass those skills on to their students. They are also really quite good at motivating kids. Have a shy kid who needs some support? They will adjust accordingly. Have a kid that needs firm guidance or a bit of a push? They readily adapt their teaching in the manner best for each student. They treat the class like the serious business it is rather than daycare or just play. They will also help you, as a parent, understand what elements your child needs to work on when they practice at home. The management is very accommodating. If you have various issues, you can count on them to do everything they can to help you. Ms. Foo and her daughter are very friendly and are happy to engage in conversation with guests and parents. They also communicate very well and dont try to hard sell you on anything that you dont need.

I have been practicing here for six months and wish I had found it years ago. The style is beautiful, supple and powerful, and is taught in a way that is very accessible to students of all ages and skill levels. The students are a good mix of adults and kids, and the community has a friendly, down-to-earth feel. The instructors are sincere, generous and have a teachers ability to instill a love of martial arts in their students. Quality standards are high, and students from beginners to advanced receive individualized attention and are challenged appropriately for their skill levels. All classes are taught personally by the two instructors and there is a good student-to-teacher ratio, with classes rarely exceeding fifteen students. There are separate classes for beginners and intermediate / advanced students, and most classes are a mix of kids and adults. The core curriculum focuses on traditional forms (empty hand and weapon), techniques and fitness, with sparring, acrobatics and Qigong offered as optional classes. New forms are taught gradually over the course of several months, making it easier to deepen ones skill. There is more focus on mastering basics and improving quality than rapidly earning belt ranks or winning competitions.Practices are held six days a week at various times, and there are several price options depending on how many times per week students opt to attend class. Class attendance is flexible, making it easy to fit into work and school schedules. The facility is spacious and well-equipped. I have always found the management staff to be helpful, friendly and professional. This is not a commercialized, mass production martial art. The Shaolin style is incredibly rich and encompasses many areas of skill, and there are so many layers that it would take more than a lifetime to learn all of it. At first the thought of learning Shaolin Kung Fu seemed daunting, but the instructors make it very approachable and an effective tool for improving oneself.

I was approached today after my son, Nicholas’ class by one of the shifu’s.He informed me of the following message from Shi Yan Ran (Head of Shaolin Temple USA)The review I posted around January 25, 2019 (see below) must be removed immediately or else 2 things will happen;1. Shaolin Temple USA will take legal action against me for posting an honest opinion as a customer for 2.5 years.2. And until I remove the review, Nicholas will not be permitted to participate in classes. After the shifu delivered this message to me, My son and I walked to the car and he started crying because he said the shifu taught everyone else in class and did not explain why he couldn’t participate. My son was asked to sit on the sidelines and was so traumatized from not understanding why the shifu would teach everyone else but him. What I’ve learned from this experience is the following:1. Do not ever voice your opinion about the temple even if what you are saying is completely factual because they will bully you into submission by trying to scare you with the threat of legal action.2. If they feel their reputation is being threatened, the temple will punish your child in order to get you to retract your review.3. There is zero understanding of customer service as normal businesses would address negative feedback immediately and show signs of reflection and a willingness to improve. As Nicholas said eloquently as he cried on his way home today, “They make it impossible for me to continue.”January 25, 2019 Review:If I could purely rate the shifus, the school would be 5 stars. But taking into account the extremely unprofessional and corrupt management of the school, I will have to give it a one star rating. This so called temple is managed by Ms. Foo who deems herself to be a practitioner of Buddhist principles but is a complete hypocrite. Examples of things that have happened at this school which would be completely unacceptable anywhere else:- Storming out of her office and yelling at parents during class because of her poor communication regarding a new class schedule- Spreading rumors about how several parents have crushes on the shifu and want to seduce them away from the temple.- Spreading gossip in general about anyone she doesnt like- Punishing the shifus for having friendships with the parents- Admitting that she is jealous of all the attention the shifus get and nobody thanks her for her efforts. The list of things she’s done because of her pettiness and insecurity continues to grow and her behavior will choke and stunt the growth of this temple. For those visiting, you will notice that theres a lack of students in the higher belts and parents who have been at the school for longer than 2 years have stopped talking to her. Its because everyone gets a taste of whats shes like and can no longer support the school or interact with her.If this place didnt have great shifus, it wouldnt be in business at all.

I have been training here since the school opened and now my sons train here. This is an unique opportunity to learn traditional Kung Fu and wellness from Shaolin monks as taught to them at the Shaolin Temple - China, and to be part of a friendly and close knit community of students and their families.

Weve been taking our kids here since summer of 2014. I was not sure what to expect, and I am extremely excited that we chose this location to expand our childrens interests in martial arts. For this seeking traditional chinese kung fu, look no further...this is the place. The traditional chinese kung fu art form is taught here by shoalin warriors from China - it provides a real authentic experience and instills a real quiet discipline that is not found in other commecialized settings. The sifus create a fantastic learning environment for all ages and promote a strong sense of community in this organization. The administrative staff is also very friendly and flexible; and moreover, engaged in the continued success and enhancement of the program. Our family highly recommends this organization and we plan to keep our kids in this program.
