My youngest child was offered some promotional classes at his elementary school and came home raving about it. We decided to check out the school and the instructors to see what made them different from strip mall karate schools. It was truly a surprise listening to the instructors and watching their interactions with the kids and parents. The instructors are positive, energetic, and patient. They pull from their own experiences to make the teachings hit home. They draw the kids’ attention and as a parent you can’t help but listen and take it in yourself. The lessons so centered around applying skills to all parts of life that just listening to the instructors has helped me in my career, my outlook, and my relationships, and I am not even enrolled! My children are. My kids constantly look forward to each class and strive to get better and break harder boards. When you step in and see how it all is put together, you see what separates them from the strip mall karate schools. No matter what your experience level is, I encourage you to look into this locally owned and operated company. Not only for your kids. But possibly for you as well. They do offer adult classes, after all.Celebrate Life!

After coming to CE-MMA as a solo student, my wife and I decided to start bringing our whole family. These instructors not only provide my kids with reinforcement of our familys beliefs and values, they have become what I consider close friends.Their ways of communicating the moves, as well as the lessons behind them, are professional and concise, yet no one class is dry or boring. Its loud, relaxed, engaging, and carries with it an air of understanding that everyone is at a different physical fitness level. These are great people to have in your life. Be here.Im Craig, and I approve this message.

My family and I have been at this school for over a year now and we love it. I come from a martial arts background and I can tell you this school has a great blend of practical techniques, decision making, with creative and fun exercises. The instruction begins with a lot of core movements and evolves to advanced techniques and detail. There are always new programs and events to attend including weapons training, womens self defense, board breaking, adult sparring classes and holiday special events. From general interest, self defense, fitness to competition, advance techniques and instructor level sparring.. this school has you covered.

My oldest son was never into competitive sports. We signed him up with Competitive Edge several years ago-his goal was to get a black belt. Being in MMA has kept my son physically active, confident and has helped him build relationships with other students outside of his school. He will be getting his black belt within the next year. We discussed having him try something new once hes passed his black belt test, but he was adamant about continuing to go to MMA.Another wonderful thing about CEMMA is how they build the students up. Kids hear enough bad things about themselves out in the world. It is good to have another safe space to hear positivity (especially for a teenager).

The pros: The instructors are knowledgeable and are great with the kids. Encouraging while also requiring discipline and hard work.THE CON: The CONTRACT!!! DO NOT sign the contract unless you are certain NOTHING is going to change in your life for a full year. The minimum contract is 1 year and you can only cancel for death, permanent disability or moving >25mi. When we signed we didn’t think we would have a problem. However, our family scheduled was changed based on circumstances out of our control and they do not care. Whether it’s a change in finances, jobs, schools, other activities, or just that the kids don’t like it anymore...they do not care. You will be forced to pay.Seems ridiculous to me that I can cancel a gym membership, apartment contract, etc etc (yes with a penalty fee but still cheaper then paying for a class we can’t use) and I can’t cancel a kids MMA class.

Competitive Edge has been such a positive part of my daughters life! She has been training here since she was five years old. Her confidence and security in who she is, is a direct result of her training at this academy. She earned her junior black belt two years ago and her next goal is to earn her adult black belt, which she will do before she graduates high school. My husband and I get consistent feedback from her school teachers saying what a hard working and dedicated student she is. Competitive Edge has taught her how to be strong physically and in any challenge that life will bring her. The character development at this academy is equal to, or greater than, the physical martial arts aspect. The instructors here pour their heart and soul into every student and being a part of this academy has made my daughter realize just how powerful she really is.

Ive been training with Competitive Edge for over three years, and it is honestly an amazing place. The atmosphere is really positive and the instructors are genuinely interested in helping their students improve not just their techniques but their character as well. I dont believe Ive ever seen another place care as much about character as the service they are providing. Additionally, the instructors are very down-to-earth and do their best to make sure students have fun learning new techniques, reviewing footwork, etc. For teens and kids, they sometimes create competitions or devise games for us to understand when to use the technique and at what pace. I really cant say enough about this place; it is fantastic, I love it here.

Our four, almost five year old son, has been attending Competitive Edge Mixed Martial Arts for almost a year and he loves it. The facility is great. The staff is extremely talented and professional. I would fully recommend this to anyone. It is a great place for children to have a lot fun and learn a disciplined sport at the same time. It is amazing to see how quickly kids can learn and how proud they are of themselves when they progress up in belts.

Offered a free birthday party, so we accepted. had 20 kids waiting outside at the date and time agreed upon, and no one showed. Left a message, never received a call back about this. Still getting calls about how we won 2 free classes. Be warned that if you enter into a drawing of any sort you will keep getting calls.

On my 4 year old sons first day in August of last year, he was unable to look someone in the eye when talking with them. After working with Mr. K, Mr. Garrett and Ms. Kristy for the past 6 months, he is as confident as a four year old can be. At church, his favorite part is when you introduce yourself to the people around you. He no longer introduces himself to those around us, but walks around the whole sanctuary introducing himself. Love Competitive Edge!

We had a horrible experience with this organization. My son and I both were overwhelmed by size of these classes 30-35 plus with only 1 instructor. I am not sure how it is not a fire hazard to have this many people packed into such a small area. Not to mention they are severely understaffed. We were told they were smaller class sizes and they would receive personal attention. With a ratio of 35/1 you can imagine the personal attention these kiddos receive. I also noticed a high ratio of turn over, when I expressed concern for the class sizes I was responded to rudely. The staff that are there are not consistent and staff are also high turnover and do not appear trained or aware of what they are supposed to do. When I asked to cancel our trial membership we were told to contact another company ASF International who told me to fax them a cancel letter they e-mailed me. Once I did this they continued to say they were reviewing it. After 20 days they responded that they could not cancel trial membership. I received the same avoidance and being told to contact other people via e-mail who did not respond, until it escalated to a verbal argument…. Dont waste your money, these guys are a joke!

I trained at CEMMA from the time I was very young. I committed to my training. It took over 4 1/2years for me to receive my black belt. Anything worth earning takes time and commitment. That philosophy which I learned early in my life has helped me in many of my achievements. I am now 21 and realize that with hard work and consistency I can achieve anything I set my mind to. I graduated college with a Bachelor degree in a year and wrote a book about it which I self published. This concept was taught to me through Competitive Edge Mixed Martial arts. They do not only teach self defense but personal development as well. It is not like any other Martial Arts school!! The instructors are the absolute best!!! It was a life changing experience!!

This company takes advantage of their clients! They over sell and under deliver. They always push extra classes and seminars (for additional costs) and they are always telling the kids to bring as many friends as they can. The classes are really big, overcrowded and rushed. All they care about is the money and as soon as they have you locked in the customer service plummets. Here is what I have experienced in detail. When we first started inquiring about the program we were very excited and the instructors seemed great, but that didn’t last long. We signed a 9 month contract that costs us $150 a month plus $60 for the basic gear. I saw their true colors after my child did a trial for their black belt training program. Pretty much they just want you to sign a 3 year contract at $170 a month. I told them that unfortunately right now we cannot afford it because I am a stay-at-home mom and until our youngest gets into first grade I will not be working. The instructor talked to me for probably about 10 minutes and in that time I felt like I had to almost explain my finances to him because he was getting pushy with me. Then after that he told me, Well, lets schedule a meeting with your husband so I can see where he is coming from too. That offended me a lot! Does he think that I am not capable of making these decisions without my husband present, even though this is my husband’s decision as well? That was very demeaning and I do not appreciate someone needing to speak with my husband when I have just told them that we cannot afford the program. That is so horribly sexist! They also lied to us so we would do the trial. I was told that very few white belts (new students) even get to do the trial because they like the kids to have more experience. It made us feel special until less than a week later I heard the same instructor asking two other white belts to try out for the program and he gave them the same talk about how this is a special privilege to try out for. I now understand that is just a sales pitch and that we were lied to so we would feel special and sign up for the program so they would get more money and a longer contract. Additionally, we were lied to about the program as a whole. Their sales pitch does not match what they actually do in class. We were told when we signed up that they will be working on holds, take downs, throws and escaping holds. I didnt expect that to happen too often but after 5 months I have not seen any of that in class. The sales pitch was over promised and we have been under delivered.Another issue is that their employees are never on the same page. We were unable to make it to the belt graduation so I called and spoke with an employee. I was told that we can just buy the new belt for $10.99 and that I didn’t have to pay the $35 fee for graduation. When I went to buy the new belt I was told that I cannot just buy the belt and that we have to pay the full $35 graduation fee even though we couldn’t make the graduation. After that I even called the other location to see what they would say and the guy that answered told me that it shouldnt be a problem to just buy the belt since we cant make it to the graduation. Nobody actually knows the policy because I got 3 different answers. In the end and after a lot of hassle they finally let me buy just the belt. After emailing the founder, Scott Aksamit, I realize that he isn’t interested in actually solving issues. He offered some free gifts like a graduation party but now I know this is just so they can poach our friends and family and get more money! He said they were sorry for their recent failures, they would do everything in their power to regain our trust and to let him know if I can think of any other action they can take to repair their errors. I told him that we are very unhappy with the program and I would like to be out of our contract and he never wrote me back!!! All they care about is getting your money.

Do not sign up or be on the hook for hundreds of dollars a month! If god forbid your 10 year son changes his mind (like most children) you are stuck paying thousands of dollars still. They are always trying to sell you something, it is very annoying. And everything costs extra...belt, graduation (very often), etc. I have 4 kids that have signed up for many things and have never had a business that works with kids treat me like this.

BE AWARE! This company has taken advantage of their clients. Their services do not meet their sales pitch and even worse, they expect payment for the services promised but not delivered. Let me explain further. My daughter started the Mixed Martial Arts Program a few years ago. She was getting bullied at school and was very shy. I thought this program would teach her to have confidence and how to overcome her fears. Since my daughter was struggling with these issues at school, my husband and I decided to sign her up for this program. She would go twice a week and practice with other children. One of the instructors explained that we would have to sign a 3 year contract with them.I specifically asked this employee what would happen if my daughter did not want to continue this program at any time for any reason. He said it would be no problem to discontinue the course if I came and spoke to him. After taking some courses, my daughter became very stressed out began refusing to go to class at Mix Martial Arts. My daughter would get so upset about going to this facility, she would have stomach aches. This atmosphere would cause her extreme stress and insecurity. The exact opposite experience they claimed they would provide. My daughter at no time felt supported or confident from participating in their program. I know my daughter well, she would not lie about her feelings. She was doing ok with the program until she reached purple belt. At this time, students begin sparing and having more physical contact with each other. I watched these classes from the side and saw my daughter becoming more and more miserable as this program did not fit her personality or disposition. After paying for classes that my daughter did not attend, I finally convinced her to go back and try more classes. The instructor said I needed to pay for more belts and tests for her to continue even though she had missed so many classes. He was not concerned about her mental status, ability level, or comfort with the program. He just wanted to test her and charge me another $90 to continue. After trying to comply with what the instructor said and pushing my daughter to keep trying, I finally pulled her out of the program and talked to the instructor about terminating the contract.I was told by this instructor that the only way to terminate the contract is if we moved 25 miles away or more or if my child were to die! He was not willing to help me as he verbally promised before I signed the contract. They did say I could transfer this contract to another child or family member. As I dont have anyone interested in taking over my contract, this is simply not an option for me. I tried to talk to Dean Kokorus who originally signed me up. He is the instructor that gave me his verbal word that he could get me out of the contract. I trusted his word and it turns out his word was not worth anything.I know I should have gotten this verbal promise in writing, but I trusted Mr. Kokorus and his word. I finally researched this company on the Better Business Bureau website and is testimonial from parent like me that have had similar experiences with Competitive Edge Mix Martial Arts.Make sure to research this company on yelp and BBB. They will take your money if you decide to cancel the program. They did take mine. This company doesnt care about well being of your child. I would never recommend this company to anyone.

I have nothing but high praises for this Karate school and referred many, more than satisfied people to them. The staff is outstanding, well trained, attentive and helpful. Let me tell of my experience with them. My grandson was hyper and difficult early on. We made excuses for his behaviors even though our friends were getting so they didnt want him around their kids.I had heard very good things about Competitive Edge Martial Arts but was dead set against spending money so my grandson to learn to kick and punch. After much thought we paid a visit to the school to watch a class. OMG, I was awestruck and saw Martial Arts is far from just kicking and punching.I asked to speak with an instructor about classes. I was so impressed with the courtesy and politeness he showed me. He was attentive to my grandson. I signed for intro classes to see if he would like them. Needless to say, we later enrolled him in the school. Because of the focus and life skills they incorporate in the classes, my grandson began to be more polite, learned to focus on what he was doing and was becoming a nice, controlled, likable child. He made friends and his grades improved. He truly is now a pleasure to be around, no meds and he is now always cheerful and friendly.I highly recommend this school. They are caring, competent ,And truly care about each Student and .their progress. We certainly have been blessed and would love to know that our experience guided your children to a positive experience with Competitive Edge Martial Arts.

CE-MMAs staff are top-notch. Their teachings go far beyond normal martial arts skills to include character development, motivation, a positive attitude, goal setting, and more. Class sizes are almost always appropriate and well managed, at least for youngsters (4-8 year-olds). The physical activities combine karate, Aikido, kick-boxing, judo, and more. Training is age-appropriate, and repetition and intensity is gauged accurately for the kids. The focus is on what my kid does well, and Ive seen growth in him that I attribute directly to these classes.
