Need to do this every weekend. Captain Mike & Michelle were absolute angels! We got to bring our own drinks and snacks, they even gave us a bluetooth speaker to use on board so we could jam and have a dance party. The boat was so clean, and I couldnt believe how much space there was for 3 coolers and six people. Would definitely recommend going for three hours so you can enjoy yourself and cruise around during golden hour. The most unique and special experience Ive ever had. Born & raised on the big island, I never thought Id take a sunset charter out of waikiki but now its on the list every time friends are in town or I want to celebrate a special occasion. Mahalo nui loa Honolulu Sailing Co!!

Michelle & Captain J took great care of us during our 3hr morning sail on the 50ft Te Fiti. Wind & whales didnt cooperate but we enjoyed a fantastic tow snorkle, beautiful vistas, and peaceful relaxing on the huge deck. It was nice to get away from the masses and simply enjoy the ocean. Michelle was a knowledgeable, responsive, helpful hostess. Plus her kid sitting skills are on par (youngest didnt want to snorkel). Captain J was wonderfully accommodating and took great care of us. I would definitely recommend Honolulu Sailing Company.

The crew, Manny and Malcom were the best!!! We had so much fun and they were two of the biggest reasons why. They were both professional yet fun. We saw lots of turtles, fish and have stunning views. IF you need a private charter, I cant imagine anything better! 11,000 out out of 10 stars! We love you all from your new Michigan family.

We had an amazing experience sailing with the Honolulu Sailing Company. The staff were very friendly and nice, and they accommodated with our needs. If you are to choose company to sail with, they are the one to go. I will highly highly recommend them to anyone visiting Oahu without a doubt. Great customer service and communication!

We chartered Honolulu Sailings Gaugin sailboat for a three-hour Sunset Sailing/Snorkeling private tour to celebrate our anniversary.  This tour is a great option for one or two couples, or perhaps a small family, who want to enjoy the beautiful waters near Waikiki on a vessel that isnt packed with tourists.Captain Rick and First Mate Sebastian are great hosts and true professionals.Despite unexpected cool and wet weather, we still had a really good time, had some nice picture-taking opportunities near Diamond Head, Waikiki, and Kakaako, and we enjoyed learning about sailing and hearing about Rick and Sebastians previous adventures. The only downer was that the weather made seeing a beautiful ocean sunset impossible.

Communication before the sail wasnt perfect, but the sail was! Captain Mike and mate Michelle delivered an excellent 2 hour sunset sail. Great steady sailing and calm people despite high winds.

Our family of 4 (kids 10 & 12) had the privilege of chartering the Beneteau Sense 50 with Captain Jeremy and Michelle for an incredible sunset cruise. The boat was top notch and as were the captains. We swam, snorkeled, saw whales (twice!!) and a beautiful sunset. Jeremy and Michelle were so knowledgeable and fun to hang out with. I highly recommend!!

We booked a 42’ private charter to soak in the Hawaiian sunset! The crew was lovely and accommodating. The interior cabin has a washroom and a kitchen plus fridge to store your drinks and snacks! Two hours was plenty enough to take a dip, snorkel, take some pictures of us driving the boat, walk all around and soak in the sunset. Captain Nate and Michele knocked it out of the park and it felt like you were sailing with good friends. They educated us about the boat, sailing culture and took wonderful pictures!

Captain Mike & Michele were outstanding nautical hosts for our family outing. The booking and cruise around Waikiki were very professional and personalized to suit our family. We booked a four tour with Captain Mike. We are able to see whales, dolphins and enjoyed a beautiful sunset to cap off our boating adventure! This team made a great outing into a magical memory that our family will always cherish! Thanks again Captain Mike & Michele you are best sailing company in Oahu!

Mike and Honolulu Sailing is very disorganised, got our start date wrong, and the quality of the yacht and information he provided was poor e.g. the engine raw water pump was leaking the whole trip, the hull hadnt been cleaned for years (see photo), ports and hatches would not stay open and hence the cabin was always very hot. The maintenance on the yacht was negligent, leading into safety issues i.e the engine broke and battery issues whilst we were offshore. Do not use Honolulu Sailing - very bad to deal with.

My husband and I have chartered with Mike Mickelwait 4 times over the past 5 years. We loved each and every one of these charters. I highly recommend that you include Mike or one of his experienced captains on your voyage, however, due to the complexity of sailing in the Hawaiian islands. As one who grew up sailing in California, I can tell you - sailing in Hawaii is as challenging as it is wonderful. Mike is a low-key guy, but highly experienced in sailing out here, having been at it for 40+ years. He knows all the good harbors and surf breaks. Hell show you parts of Molokai you would never otherwise see. He is a sailors sailor, and thats what you get. If you want an authentic Hawaiian sailing experience, sail with Mike.

DO NOT Charter a yacht with Mike Mickelwait / Honolulu Sailing Co. Our trip was unpleasant at best and outright unsafe / dangerous at worst. The yacht we chartered was clearly not fit for purpose. (Note: We are experienced Blue water sailors / boat owner of over 20 years experience). We travelled to Hawaii with the specific intention of chartering a yacht from Mike for a 8 day cruise. We had a mutually agreed date, vessel and itinerary (as promoted by Mike on his website) which we researched and planned for. Upon arrival Mike had the wrong date, the vessel was unavailable due to breakage and he strongly recommended that we did no pursue the itinerary that he had promoted and we had agreed. Mike indicated that he had another vessel available - which we agreed to as we were left with the alternative of NO vessel. No information about the yacht was forthcoming other than a very brief verbal overview. No documentation was provided aside charts and cruising guides. Mike requested that we empty the primary fuel filter daily for water (this should have been a warning to us - water in the fuel tank is not something that any customer chartering a yacht should be needing to clear on a daily basis). After setting off from Honolulu, it started to become apparent that the vessel was overdue some maintenance. The house batteries did not hold charge, the tender would not fully inflate without leaking and we had to fix the tender engine ourselves as it was leaking petrol so we fixed it ourselves (see photo in gallery). There were navigation lights not working (we fashioned new ones on route), the hatches leaked, the lines were worn (see photo in gallery), and one of the heads could not be locked off - meaning sewage could easily be expelled into the sea. Upon arriving in Hanalei, I dived the hull to see if I could scrub it to increase boat speed. After an hour of scrubbing I had to give up - there were year of barnacles and week growing on the bottom - which was too hard to get off.Whilst this was uncomfortable, we could make do. However, on the fifth day - five hours off shore from Oahu the engine failed. As the house battery did not hold charge, this meant that all systems requiring electricity started to fail. No auto pilot, no GPS, reducing our ability to navigate (in unfamiliar waters) and communicate our situation to the outside world. Mike did not respond to our request for assistance until we contacted Coastguard and they contacted him on our behalf. Through out the next twelve hours as we made for the vessels home Marina we had little contact from Mike - and the most reassuring factor was that Coastguard contacted us hourly to check we were alright, and were on hand to chase Mike when he would not respond to our phone calls to make sure he would be on hand to tow us the final distance into the Marina.Mike met us and towed us into our berth. What did Mike do at this point? Apologise? Offer a refund? Offer an alternative for the next three nights? None of the above - Mike said goodbye and just walked himself off the Marina. So what next for us? We have discussed our grievances with Mike and have not reached a satisfactory agreement. We have raised a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau. We think Hawaii is a great place to sail and you should do it, just dont do it with Mike and Honolulu Sailing company.
