My wife and I went sailing with Waikiki Sailing School today for my birthday and had a great time. Captain Matt was a patient and helpful teacher despite us both being total greenhorns about sailing. This was the intro to sailing course and not one the ASA certification courses but we still learned a lot. The 33 Essanza (Italian for essence), Ranger class single hull handled very well and I found out the wrong way how quickly it could turn! Its also a great boat for 3 people so you get a lot of one-on-one learning. We really enjoyed ourselves and look forward to sailing with Waikiki Sailing School again. Mahalo, Captain Matt!

I did a 7-day cruise with Waikiki Sailing School with my girlfriend and another close friend to Maui and then back along the north shore of Molokai, completing our ASA 101, 103, and 104 certifications in the process. We sailed on the Nordic 44’. Matt is a great instructor, with 50 years of experience on all kinds of sailboats. If you’re serious about learning to sail, Waikiki Sailing School is the place to go.

Matt is the consummate waterman and was a great teacher for a week of sailing. I learned a million things about boating and we anchored at some really stellar locations (especially on Molokai!)

Sailing with Captain Matt was a pleasure and we have been out with him on multiple trips to the islands.Whether its cruising with dolphins or working through some stiff winds its always been a great time and learning experience.

Captain Matt had an attitude that made me feel very uncomfortable and discouraged me from sailing. He also took us out sailing although it was a storm and NOAA had said no boats should leave the harbor. Captain Matt refused refunding or postponing the trip. I chose to leave the boat on the second day although I had paid for three days, because Captain Matt was so unpleasant and disrespectful. Also the storm made it impossible to sail without the motor. The whole experience was bad and I hope that no one else will have to go through this. I strongly recommend that you look for other sailing options. Sailing should be fun, being onboard should feel safe, and you as a visitor onboard should feel respected as a human being. Don’t sign up with Captain Matt.

I have sailed many times with Captain Matt of Waikiki Sailing School, and every time is so much fun, and with breathtaking views of the islands from the pacific blue. Captain Matts first priority is always safety and immaculate care of his boats which is a huge plus in my book.
