Regret sending my child here. They have no communication with parents. Very unorganized the teacher might be good but the administration over weights the good. They dont allow you to be involved in your childs education unless its for their benefit for example you are not allowed to have lunch with your child but you are encouraged to help at dismissal to direct traffic. I am trying my best to change her school.

Not so good since people from nearby neighborhoods started bringing their kids here. This school is not what it used to be when I attended 15 years ago. It used to be a peaceful place. Now is too ghetto.

I was stoked that my first child would be attending this school, but our experience changed my perception before his Kindergarten year was complete. First, upon registration, I followed the instructions given by a dual language coordinator to enroll my child in the program and yet he wasnt added to the program. On meet-the-teacher night, we learned he was in a class not participating in the program. Mrs. Reiser gave us a clipboard to enter his info and have him added, along with her class supply list. We bought the required supplies for her class and on the first day of school, he STILL had not been moved. This caused us to have to go buy additional supplies for the class he was initially put in as we were told there was no room in the dual language program. THEN, on the first day of school, I enlisted him as a walker and yet he was put with the bus riders. YOU CAN IMAGINE MY FRUSTRATION AT THIS POINT...HES MY FIRSTBORN. Yet and still, I was determined to overlook these things as I held this school to such high regard. We ddnt put money on his lunch account for the first TWO weeks due to not having a lunch calendar, so he was taking his lunch EVERYDAY. Yet, we were notified of a negative balance bc his lunch card had been given to a random student during the FIRST week. Trying to remain positive, I overlooked this as well knowing the $2.25 went toward putting food in a childs stomach, regardless if the child wasnt mine. Then my student participated in GT testing in Dec. We received results in late March and I requested a meeting, IN PERSON, to discuss his results. I was told the person responsible for GT was not avail, they took my name and number for a callback which I never received. Before the school year was over, I called in a second attempt to get an explanation as to what my students test results meant for his academic placement and was told I would get a callback after leaving a message. AGAIN, I have yet to receive a callback and were approaching a new school year. So, after getting a response from a charter school I applied to, I decided to withdraw him from GV since they dont care to correspond with parents in regard to their child, nor take precautions to ensure the children are placed where they belong and where parents have agreed to have them (i.e. Classroom, after school pick-up areas, etc). Still, it couldnt be a simple withdrawal. I contacted the school to retrieve a copy of his report card and was told they werent in the system and since their registrar was on vacation I would have to wait on a callback! I kindly explained my position on having to wait for their returned calls, and after 30 minutes of holding time, I FINALLY got someone to send me a copy of his report card! But NOT BEFORE I had to callback bc the assisting person did not confirm the message had been sent prior to leaving for the day on Thursday! Office was closed on Friday, so Monday morning at 7:30 Im calling to request, YET AGAIN, his report card. I actually received it within 15 minutes, this time. Praise God! 🙌🏽
