I attended this school from Feb 2020 to Sept 2020. It was one of the best decisions i made thus far. The instructors were very knowledgeable, helpful and very welcoming. If you want a school that will prep you, and train your mindset for offshore diving. This is the place!! Special shout out to my instructors ...Steve, Carlo, Richard and even Kirk...thank you all!!!C-Dive here I come!!!

My soon to be 18 yr old son is looking to come here for commercial diving / underwater welding training. Considerate, knowledgeable staff spent a good two hours explaining the program and what to expect for job prospects afterward, etc. One of the four premier programs for this niche occupational training in the USA. Excellent tour... got to observe a class in action in the tanks. Pretty sure this is the destiny for our son this fall.

I attend the this course back in 1987 and it was a great experience! I see the negative post here and can only say they provided a great learning experience and I was able to get a job as a tender at American Oilfield divers in New Iberia , LA immediately after I graduated. The course work they taught me totally prepaired me for this job. I worked at AOD for 2 years and enjoyed it too. I ended up enlisting in the Air Force because I wanted to see the world - which I did for 24 years. All this started at the ocean corporation.

Great school, you definitely get out of it, what you put in! I was never a great academic test taker therefore I was not college material... But I was smart with hands on work. So with the specialty training I received from TOC my career took off in the Gulf of Mexico oil field which led into working in the nuclear power industry and finally into my own business... Thanks to the training I received from this school Im much more successful than many of my H.S. friends that went to 4 years of college. Believe me, having a marketable specialty skill is worth much more than a general college education that 1,000s of others have... THANK YOU Ocean Corp. (D-149)

Great school if your looking for a great career. Teachers are really there to help with your needs and guide you towards success. Once you graduate they will help you find a job, however, it is not their job to hold your hand through that process. You also have to put in the work by emailing/personally delivering your resume to companies and then FOLLOW UP. There is money to be made here. Big time money. No, of course your not going to start your first job off making $60/hr thats just common sense. Any new job you get your going to be the new guy/girl and will have to prove yourself and work your way up. The speed at which you can get your certs and start making very good money is totally up to you. So like I previously stated, if you want a great career and all the benefits of being an alumni I would highly recommend The Ocean Corporation. Best decision I have made!

Went The Ocean Corp in the Spring of 2015. Ive been working offshore since the week after i graduated. You get out of it what you put into it. With hard work and a never quit attitude you can become a commercial diver. Is it a glamorous life? Will you be rich in a few years? Nope. But it is a rewarding career with lots of adventure. The Ocean Corp gives you what you need to be successful diving but its up to you whether you make it or not. The staff is great and knowledgeable and i believe they genuinely care about your success. It isnt cheap but the alternatives are even more pricey. If your a tough, hard worker, that likes danger and adventure go check it out.-Mike UDT 454

As far as the one star, its my opinion of how I feel the schools attitude and job placement is. Attended TOC in 1985 while Larry Cushman was president and school was on Glenmont drive . Learned the ropes from TOC and back then the staff treated me well. Been working in Asia in the diving industry for these past 35 years and TOC helped me get where I needed wrt training and insight. All the naysayers with little to no experience much less accomplishments in the industry might as well be waiting tables. Commercial Diving is not for everyone and few stay the course to retirement. If its in your blood and you have the back and the brains to make it a career then TOC can get you on the right track. Good luck and Dive Safe.

I graduated in May or June of 1995 and can say it was one of the better experiences in my life. I was recently all the military and decided before getting out that I wanted to go to The Ocean Corporation. I cant remember many of the instructors there, but Craig Jenny, Don Fast and a few of the others were all very seasoned and were very helpful in learning all the tricks we needed. Shortly before graduation, myself and another student were called into the office by the CEO and was asked if Id be interested in becoming a Sat Tech for American oilfield divers in New Iberia Louisiana. I eventually declined after getting down there but I went ahead and hired on as a tender. Work for AOD for about nine months before switching to another company because they are offering to break me out right away. Unfortunately, shortly after hiring on I suffered a career-ending injury and left the diving business for good. I will always remember my time at The Ocean Corporation I hope to come back someday and take a look at things.

Recent graduate in the UDT program, If you are reading the reviews and being scared by the negatives you have to understand the fast paced nature of the program can overwhelm those who are not prepared for the work you must put in in and out of the classroom. Without a doubt The Ocean Corporation creates some of the best memories I have to date, as well (in my opinion) fully prepared me to enter the workforce. The instructors in the UDT program all have different teaching styles. Beginning and finishing scuba with Kirk was the best knock into reality of how important the basics of diving is. I see a lot of negative written about him, and that has a lot to do with conflicting personality’s. Those who can take criticism/instruction and those who can’t. The variation from Carlo to John is incredibly well rounding. These instructors and faculty will go the extra mile to help you understand and comprehend any information you need to be successful. I’ll always recommend this program to anyone on the fence about dive school. I’m excited to enter the industry, and I’m grateful to have TOC behind me.

TOC is a good school and I’ve learned a lot while attending. But what I didn’t like was one of the instructors Kirk. He is rude and he doesn’t know how to teach and connect with his students. All he does is yell at the students in class and tell them to “listen up!” Or “sit down!” although everyone is already sitting down. Anytime anyone says anything in class he yells and curses at them. He creates an atmosphere in class that makes you not want to learn or ask questions from him because you don’t know if you will be yelled at or not. I love the school but I wish they’d replace him with another instructor that they get their money out of. I will say Carlo is the best instructor we had. He makes sure his students benefit fully from him. Overall it’s a good school.

I attended the Ocean Corporation from May 2015 through July 2016 completing both the Ultimate Diver Training (UDT) as well as the Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) program. Both programs are uniquely different in their own right, however there are many similarities. Either program you choose to attend is approximately 7 months in length, 5 days a week, for a half day. The UDT program does have some overlapping content if you choose to do the NDT program as well. The quality of education you stand to gain from the instructors as well as the help from the staff of the Ocean Corporation is excellent. Most people criticize and say the instructors are burn outs, dont care, etc. I can say that without exception, every instructor and staff member at the Ocean Corporation is solely dedicated to the success of every student. You can make some lasting friendships while your attending school as well, and the staff and instructors are always there once you graduate to assist you when you need it. Everything is what you make of it in life and if you attend Ocean Corporation with a positive attitude, you WONT be disappointed. A truly wonderful year of my life was spent at the Ocean Corporation and it will remain one of my fondest experiences. Good luck if you choose to attend!

Coming from a prior service member this place is as disorganized as they come. They sell you hard on how much you will make out of school until you start talking to the instructors and find out your only going to make 13-15 out the gate. Some of the instructors have piss poor attitudes and it shows..daily. They act like they would rather be somewhere else doing other things. And some of the curriculum is slammed, 3 days to learn each course of decompression, physics, and treatment when they preach to you about how important these courses are yet you have 3 days to learn it. Meanwhile you spend 2 weeks doing non destructive testing.. Seems rushed. So if you have the oportunity to go here, pass. Because if I had read the reviews for this place and knowing what I know now I would have kept my day job.

I am just a few months shy of 17 years since my graduation, I stopped by yesterday and 4 people not only recognized me, but remembered me and asked questions about specific things in my past. I graduated from Ocean Corp in 2016, Im not going to lie the cost of tuition is pretty pricey but its worth it, you can find ways to pay for school like FASFA can cover part of it then you can get money from WorkForce, and also take a unsub and subsidize loan and your school should be covered, all you have to pay back is the unsub and subsidized loan which isnt much definitely working in this feild, the teachers are great, they like to joke around too so class wouldnt be boring, you get all the school hours you need in just 7 1/2 months, they dont do job placement but Im pretty sure no school does that, but they do help with job placement by sending your resume to companies and also sending you job leads that they might find that you didnt find on your own, the staff is very cool and helpful, if your having problems with paying for school they try to find ways to the best of there ability to help you pay for it, I had a great experience here and when I encounter other people I always recommend this school to them, you can learn a lot from Ocean Corp, and also if you ever need refresher classes you can always go back and take that class with NO cost !

The school creates a great core for on the job knowlege. Is it worth the $23,000 that I paid? No. Even Wih the credited college hours of NDT I still made 14.00 an hour.. of you are a kid out of high school then I recommend getting on with a company and having them pay for certain courses. Job placement is a hoax. They will help you find a job but so will the internet. Staff and president are great people, Its just hard to pay that much money to come out of school and make such low pay. Overall Im glad I learned so much about it, but youre better off looking it up on YouTube and taking the classes as needed for work.. sorry just being honest.

Overall I have to say I enjoyed my time at TOC, the instructors tried there best to accommodate everyone to their best ability, even with my class of 30 people in NDT-456. MT and PT did feel a little rushed, but they just need to cover the basics as you will have to relearn it once out in the field anyhow if you get a job doing that. UT was my favorite and is what I have been doing since graduating a year ago now. While it is a little high on the price scale, and to my knowledge 13,500 is the max you can get for financial aid, the benefits in being an alumni and connections that are available to you because of that are where the added benefit comes into play over other options out there. My job that is a small outfit of about 25 guys, 7 of whom are TOC graduates. There are some downsides like the location not being surrounded by the best area, or parking can be a pain if you are not early, but overall my only real complaint was that my class had 30 people, and the class one or two after us only had like 9 or so. It would have been nice if they kept it a little more even, but I imagine thats a little easier said than done. All in all, I would recommend TOC for someone looking to get your foot in the door as a young adult like myself, or someone looking to switch venues as there is a variety of work environments to choose from, not all the jobs are travelling ones.

I am a graduate of NDT class 377. I can honestly say that TOC made a difference in my life. The school gave me the education I needed to have a successful career in non-destructive testing. Im not one to sugar coat things, so yes it has been hard at times in the industry. It definitely has its ups and downs, but I could always rely on staff members to help me out with job leads and any advice concerning the industry. They have always been upfront and shot straight. I am here to shot straight with you now, the end result of your future only relies on YOU! The school will give you all the tools you need to succeed, but its up to seal up the job you want. The NDT industry, even diving, is all about your reputation. By completing the curriculum at TOC, you already have a head start on which ever way you choose to go. I have seen it first hand, from being employee and the employer, what it can do for you to have The Ocean Corporation on your resume. Just remember, doors will open, but YOU have to close them. Thanks for reading and good luck to you!

I am a graduate whom is currently working in the NDT industry. I was never promised a job, just told that there was a solid market for NDT work (which there is). Like anything in life you get out of this place what you put in. I graduated with a high A average and feel that the knowledge gave me a good head start in this career. The instructors were all great and knew the subjects that they were teaching very well. Most of them have had long careers in the field and could give you tips and tricks that an ASNT book could not. I went to the ASNT meetings as recommended by the instructors, made some contacts, and had a job weeks before graduation.

I started going to school in 2010 at, The Ocean Corporation in the UDT course.Im going to list all the positive reasons why I enjoyed going here. I learned a lot of stuff involving NDT and diving that I didnt know before. It is, in fact, an interesting and exciting field. You will meet an array of people from all walks of life, but thats at any school you attend. You will have fun! The week you go to Galveston is pretty darn cool. You start feeling like youre getting closer to your goal of finishing when you dive into the ocean for the first time. The Negatives:The school is located in one of the worst parts of town. Dont get an apartment in this area! If you do, pay the extra cost for an Alarm system. I had my apartment(Meadows Southwest) broken into. The neighbors were questionable, but it was most likely a classmate who I had invited over at some point.Theres one particular instructor who is not very happy. Dont ask him any questions involving what hes teaching because he will throw an absolute fit! If you attend, you will remember this review and know exactly who I am referring to.Its expensive. The average college graduate leaves college with around 23k in debt. Youll be leaving with over 16k. 16k was the cost at the time I went, and I was informed itd raise 2k every year.If you start, be sure and finish, or else youll still have debt.I was 30 days from graduating and decided not to finish. Theres an offshore safety class youll be taking towards the very end. Its imperative youre not late or miss it or else youll be dropped and have to take it the next class. My car broke down and overheated on the bridge in Galveston after I had accidently passed the location. Tried to get a classmate to retrieve me but, the instructor wouldnt let anyone leave to come pick me up even though I was about a mile or so away.Youll be attending class with people who have just recently gotten out of prison. The Ocean Corporation claims they no longer recruit in prison. That may be true. However, this profession seems to attract the attention of former criminals. The guy I attended class with was a former meth producer, but he was, in fact, a great guy. We all make mistakes! As I stated above, be sure to finish. I repeat, even if you decide not to have a career in this field. As previously noted above, I had 30 days left. The coast guard gives the offshore safety course, hazardous materials class I believe, underwater cutting and then the final. Years later I look on my credit report, and I realize I owed over 6k to the school. Years later, I applied for financial aid to finish my 4-year degree and understand they want a transcript from The Ocean Corporation. They dont give transcripts if you dont complete the course. The college I want to attend requires a transcript because I received financial aid. You see the dilemma here. (Update)I was able to get a transcript after speaking with the president. If youve been in the military, youll remember how excited you were when your recruiter showed you videos of Soldiers/Marines/Airmen/Sailors doing awesome things. When you finally get to the fleet, you realize what they didnt show. The house cleaning and downtime of sitting around doing absolutely nothing. Going through the military, you start at the VERY bottom of the ladder. Its the same in the diving industry. You will finish school and most likely wont dive for awhile depending on where you get a job. Youll start out holding the air hose making 9 dollars or so an hour. Starting at the bottom is where everyone begins at some point in their life. This school is for you if youve decided diving is the career for you. Im giving the school three stars because it was ME who ultimately made the wrong decision to quit. I enjoyed the six months I went to school here.

Ok, Normally I keep my nose out of rants and raves etc unless I think people are being unfair and this is one of those times. I graduated from TOC in 84 with class D-143. It was a good experience, the school was tough for me, the instructors were tough on me and I learned a lot. Much of what we were taught from forklifts to scuba seemed stupid but later I needed these skills as almost every job and contract I worked after that involved all I had learned. Upon graduation the staff made many contacts for me and presented me with a list of 7 companies who could use me and they had already been in tough with them. All I had to do was go interview and pick one. Later on the east coast I started a salvage business recovering sunken boats etc. for insurance companies and it was challenging work. I hired and went through quite a few divers in that 20 year period and by far the best trained and hardest working were the ones I got from TOC. The experience is the same with the other companies here on the right coast, You show up here a TOC grad with a reference and you move to the front of the line. Not that the other schools are all bad its just that those guys are not as well trained for the stuff that really happens out here on my deck.
