Fantastic dojo with fantastic teachers! This is not a pay-for-your-belt dojo; this is traditional Okinawan karate-do where you are expected to work hard and remember that karate is for defense and self-improvement, not brawling or starting fights. You only test for the next rank when the sensei says youre ready to. The teachers in both styles offered here are very friendly and want you to succeed; they will work hard to train you if you work hard to train. They foster a very welcoming environment for all skill levels and set a great example for all of their students. I was immediately treated like family the first time I walked in and karate has done wonders for my anxiety and depression. After a few months of great instruction, I can tell a big difference in my strength and endurance and Im in the best shape Ive ever been in. If you want to give real Okinawan karate a shot, start here!

The Okinawan Karate Center (OKC) is a traditional karate school, offering two types of Okinawan karate (Seibukan and Uechi-Ryu), and some weapons training (Matayoshi Kobudo Shinbukai). The teaching lineages of these three martial arts trace back to Okinawa, where they are still taught today. While the OKC dojo opened in August 2018, it continues the Seibukan karate that has been taught in the area since 1998. The OKCs Charters to teach come directly from Okinawa. All the instructors are knowledgeable and encouraging. In the spirit of traditional karate teaching, there are no contracts, and advancement is contingent upon mastering skills and achieving the necessary conditioning to perform these effectively. Techniques and kata (form or pattern of movements) are called out by their Japanese names. To earn a senior belt requires many years of consistent training. However, as in most physical sports, a lot of progress can be made in the early stages too.A major benefit is the physical conditioning gained from the exercise of practicing traditional karate skills. Confidence and character are also developed. The school has a steady group of enthusiastic students ranging in age from the very young to senior adults.
