It was on my mind to find a dojo that teaches at any level of skill and had an approach of individual development with an encouraging mentoring atmosphere. Where the teaching of the basics was important, the why and how we did something could be explained as Im a details person. All the while translating dojo practice into real-life application. The personal growth I received by arriving to practice every day our dojo was open, even showing up to practice with fellow practitioners outside of dojo hours and practicing on my own was immense help. Overall Bukinkan helped enhance my awareness of self and others. Every moment is a learning and teachable moment... even after years of practice.Im more capable of walking confidently with my humble training. Bujinkan Increased my endurance, resilience & dexterity holistically, while I was in nursing school. There was a positive outlet for my energy and feelings. The whole dojo was supportive on my academics, continual practice and life. I couldnt ask for better friends and people to have. The fun part is when I rank up and when I have that particular taijitsu effortlessly executed as each move becomes second nature. This gives me an extra boost of confidence. There are trips to Japan I have planned out to practice with the Bujinkan Masters and going as a group is an exciting adventure.

I discovered this dojo during the 2017 UAH club exhibit and have been training there ever since. At UAHuntsville Bujinkan Dojo you’ll quickly learn that everyone is on their own path, everyone trains for different reasons, and everyone progresses at their own pace. As a student, you will receive plenty of direct guidance from the black belt instructors. Speaking of instructors, here you have the benefit of learning from two teachers – each with his own unique focus and “style”. The blackbelt instructors are highly knowledgeable and come from diverse martial arts backgrounds. They are students of the Japanese language, history and culture, and make several trips a year to Japan to train with the bujinkan masters. What you will learn at the UAHuntsville Dojo, whether you are an experienced ninpo student or someone who’s never thrown a punch, is the underlying framework (the taijutsu) that engenders all martial arts, and you will acquire skills that apply across all fighting and self-defense disciplines, including weapons styles and even firearms. Everyone knows that real-life situations don’t play out the way they do in training – which is why we purposefully work to cultivate the underlying awareness and flexibility that enables effective responses to the unexpected. We don’t train to compete, and we don’t train to win brawls – we train to survive an encounter with violence. The UAHuntsville Bujinkan Dojo was exactly what I was looking for. If you are looking for a martial art to train in, whether for self-defense, personal improvement, or something else entirely, I would encourage you to stop by and observe a class or two - it might just be what youre looking for too.
