I’ve been taking classes with Kevin for almost five years now. He is wonderful. I’m an adult student, and Kevin helped me so much to grow. I had years of training as a child. Then I stopped for almost twenty years. Honestly practicing piano wasn’t fun for me when I was younger, but that’s not the case with Kevin. He is very good at bringing the best out of you. I’m very happy with my progress, and It has been a joy. I highly recommend.

She is a observer hence it always took her a long time to get used to a new environment and meet new people. Our two boys have been learning piano in FreshStart Music Studio for two years. The teachers there are so professional and have passion for teaching. Our kids have not only learned how to play piano, they’ve learned to love to play and enjoyed the everyday practice. My 11 yrs old son just got CM Piano level 6 both State Honor and Branch Honor, and my 8 yrs son first time joined CM piano level 2 and gained State Honor which encouraged him a lot and gave him huge confidence in learning. We feel so blessed that our kids can have the chance leaning music from FreshStart Music Studio. We believe that we made the best choice for our kids. 😃

I cannot say enough about this studio! My children have been attending for a little over a year and I cant imagine them learning anywhere else! I’m a former Fresh Start student and am now a fourth year undergrad at UCLA. Music has been a huge part of my childhood and still continues to be important to me now, and Fresh Start and its teachers played a huge role in helping me develop this passion. I took lessons at Fresh Start for 8 years, and I can honestly say that learning piano and music theory has taught me so much about stress management, creative expression, critical thinking, and the importance of practice for improvement. With Fresh Start, I learned piano playing techniques and music theory, which encouraged me to even start learning another musical instrument, but I also indirectly gained a lot of life lessons from the teachers. They make you feel comfortable and do not judge you on your skills, instead offering advice and praising you for things you did well. They truly want to get to know you and form a friendship beyond just that of teacher and student - almost like family. For example I remember when a group of us students were taking practice tests for the upcoming CM theory exam, the teachers ordered us pizza as a reward. And for winter recitals, the teachers even set up secret Santa exchanges for the students. If anyone is looking for piano lessons, I cannot recommend this studio enough! My son has been at Fresh Start for a year now, and it has been such a positive experience! Kevin has been a wonderful and caring teacher and as a result, my son has grown a lot as a musician. The studio is very well-organized and really encourages excellence, but in a fun and approachable manner. One example: before recitals, the school has a studio class where all the students can practice their piece in front of an audience of fellow students...and this is followed by a pizza party!I picked FreshStart after reading all the positive reviews on Yelp. I found that the studio exceeded my expectations! The teachers are always open to trying different techniques and practice methods to help the students improve.

My son has been playing here for over two years. Clare i his teacher and it has been terrific. What has really made the difference, I believe, is that she is really does care about his progress. Ive known about FreshStart and their teachers for a couple of years because some of my friends and my daughters friends have been taking piano lessons with them. They all raved about the teachers so when I felt my daughter finally showed enough interest, I decided to have her go there. Kevin Kao thought that Alice would be a great teacher for my daughter and he couldnt be more right. My daughter has come home from her 45 minute lessons happy and enthusiastic about learning piano. I honestly didnt know how it would turn out, but she has shown progress over the course of several months and continues to love taking classes as well as practicing at home. Alice has been so warm and inviting and I can tell from my daughters excitement that she enjoys every lesson.

FreshStart Piano is nothing short of AMAZING! My 8 year old son and 5 year old daughter had been taking lessons at another studio for 5 months and hating it (name of school withheld :)). After finding FreshStarts info online, I met Mr. Kevin, Ms. Clare and Ms. Belle and had my fingers crossed that they would be good for my kids. It has been almost two years and I have not been disappointed since! My daughter has been taught by Ms. Clare for group lessons and now by Ms. Belle for private lessons. My daughter has enjoyed piano time so much so that she has actually cried when I forgot to take her to her class one Saturday, what?! My son continues to take private lessons with Mr. Kevin and he has not only improved from the last school but exceeded my expectations! The school offers multiple recitals to celebrate the kids hard work throughout the year, group lessons where the kids dress up for holidays (such as Halloween) and have pizza, share music, just to name a few. Kevin and the team are very personable and they care for the kids not just with their piano but the well-being of the kids while in school and at home as well. I started learning piano when I was 4 and half years old back in China. I had a very strict teacher which I later appreciated. Since I had to move around a lot during my middle school/high school years, I stopped the piano lessons. Eventually, I made my way through college in the U.S. and landed a job in Irvine. I wanted to pick up piano again because I really love music and many of my favorite classical pieces are piano works. Therefore, I wish one day I would be able to play them myself.I googled around trying to find a good teacher in Irvine area. At first, I was interested in X studio because it seemed formal and well-advertised on the internet. However, I read a bunch of bad reviews complaining about frequent staff change and other issues at X studio, I backed off. Now I am really glad I didnt go to that studio. Instead I found Kevin at FreshStart Piano Studio. I booked an interview with him and we hit it off right away. I have been learning with Kevin for a bit over a year now. I really enjoy his teaching style. He was able to identify my technical issues and correct them effectively. For example, I tend to play with only finger strength. As a result, when I play fast pieces, I felt weak. Kevin immediately noticed that I was not using my arm and wrist strength and he taught me how to fix the problem. Moreover, Kevin encouraged me to push myself. Sometimes hed assign me more difficult pieces that I doubt if I could play them. With his patience (yes he is extremely patient) and guidance, I eventually manage to finish those difficult assignment.As an adult learner, I was concerned about my learning speed and lots of bad habits that I developed during my childhood piano experience. Nevertheless, Kevin was very sharp at detecting my problems and providing me several solutions to fix them. I look forward to my piano lesson every week. I always had a great time during my 60-minute music session with Kevin. Last but not least, Kevin also set up adult get-together event for his adult students. We play each other what weve been working on. It is one of my favorite part about having lessons with Kevin :)

We love Ms Anna’s toddler music class. She is energetic, talented, and loves the kids.  Weve been to other toddler music classes before, Ms Anna’s is the best! This class is for 2 to 4-year-olds and each class is 45 minutes. There were not only singing and dancing, but also exposure to different instruments. I appreciate Ms Anna incorporting different classical music with movements like moving with scarves to The Blue Danube Waltz by Johann Strauss. My son learned solfege and basic rhythms, he also had a lot of fun with crafts and storytelling. highly recommended!

When I began taking piano lessons with Kevin, I had some piano experience. However, it had been years since I studied and needed to brush up on my skills before pursuing a graduate degree in music therapy. My new degree path requires six semesters of piano courses. Kevin and I set some objectives for the mere 6 months of time we had as teacher and student, with the final goal being my placement into the 2nd piano class. Kevin is an extremely talented musician and pianist with very effective teaching methods. Based on my musical background and experience, he was able to adjust our lessons to the level of instruction that was necessary to meet our goals. We not only worked on technique, but also theory, musicality, effective practicing, and building repertoire. Thanks to Kevin’s positive and encouraging teaching style, lessons were always enjoyable. Upon entrance into the university, I placed into the 5th piano class (which far surpassed our original goal), and have been growing as a pianist ever since!! I owe my continued success to Kevin and FreshStart Piano Studio, and give my highest recommendation to any level piano student that seeks instruction.
